  • 3:45. That's all the time it took to feel comfortable enough to send it under Yamaha bridge and the gnarliest braking bumps...
On this particular day we experienced yet another fine Thursday at Glen Helen while finishing up some 2024 testing. Simply put, Yamaha is onto something and their YZ450F is one of my 450cc favorites. Here's hoping Eli Tomac comes out swinging on his 2024 Star Yamaha race bike!

how does the crf 450 stack up against the new YZ?

That's a tough comparison: One is a current class leader (YZ450F) and the other has been bringing up the rear end of 450cc Shootouts for a couple years. The 23/24' CRF450R is an improvement over the 21/22's, but still needs more fine tuning and suspension work than the YZ450F from track to track. Build quality is good on both, it's just a more uncomfortable ride on the CRF, especially when settings are off (even a little bit). When it's on, it's fun; the YZ450F is just more forgiving all-around and easier for most to find happiness with. Hydraulic clutch on the Honda is solid and more consistent than the cable of the Yamaha, but the Power Tuner app/KYB suspension/ability to install a GYTR clutch kit on the YZ450F put it over the top. Both bikes are monster 450 motors, the Yamaha just comes in a more forgiving chassis and can be mellowed out/tamed in an easier manner. The Honda has TONS of potential, just takes a good rider and suspension wrench to get it there: 23.5/24mm triple clamps are a good addition on the CRF450R as well. Good question!

Nice bike. I see Glen Helen still has no jumps at all

@@69peterpumpkineater those sent jumps they’re ant hills. Fox vet track has 3 times the jumps and 3 times bigger

@@69peterpumpkineater GH just sucks. It’s high speed dangerous with no substantial jumps to keep the speeds down. Seen way too many injuries and deaths at that track. 5th gear start straight is just dumb.

Fox Vet track is the best track around. Great safe fun design
