    Yes, as others have noted, the numerous flaws in the wingtips were a surprise. I admire the way you work your way through every problem. It's your approach, Bryan, that is perhaps the *most* educational and useful content in this series 👍

    Bryan, great vlog as always - really appreciate all the effort that goes into them, thank you.
    No wonder Kitfox took manufacturing of the fibreglass parts in house! I hadn’t realised quite how recent that was though.

    Raw carbon fiber finished wingtips would look cool with your paint scheme.

    Yes I got a set did almost the same. John should check into some quality control.

    I'm surprised at the lack of quality in the wing tips you received. Unfortunate it takes all that work to make them usable - especially since you plan to do carbon tips in the future. Hope that works well for you. Thanks for another video.

    Looking good! My STi wingtips were total crap as well. Such a pain.

    looking freaking awesome man. God i wish i had the time and money to do this. it would be stressful i am sure, but so rewarding to fly something that you built.

    Brian - Thanks for the channel. I am building an STi and your work is a big help, saving me countless hours and errors. That are you using for the entry step on your gear. I am looking for a solution. With the large tires it is awkward at best getting in. Without a good solution athleticism will limit my available passengers. LOL

    Do NOT use washers to raise the edge of the wingtip to match, washers makes a small contact surface and the vibrations from the wind will make them spot wear. Rather make an infill on the tip to make an even contact surface.
    I used washers for a boat when remaking it, diffrent objects but ill assume it will work the same with the wind 😉

      I agree, I plan on raising the back side along that entire section.

    I'm a very new addition to your CZcams video's. Haven't read anyone's comments. You did mention that the viewing audience had dropped.
    Do you think it could have been because people were isolated do to covid and are doing thing's instead of watching. They might be building up their own aircraft because of your inspiration.
    I've been watching quite a few each day.
    A sinus infection 🤧. But will tune in every once in a while after im active again. Very interesting and informative 👍. Thanks

    Curious tour opinion on drop tips. And "something in carbon" took the words out of my mouth. I see another product on bowenaero

    Dang, they were a lot of work. Now I see why whoever made Trent's Freedom Fox just put flat plates on the wingtips. Of course they give you a place to put your landing lights. I think Trent just fastened some lights to his struts. Not too aerodynamic.

    Thats a lot of work! I might have just opted to make them out of carbon fiber.

    Not sure why the manufacturer of the tips opted to use CSM instead of fabric except for being cheap. The split molds should have been longitudinal. The seam is ridiculous, probably an old torn up mold that leaves a gap that needs filling. Our parts would never leave the shop looking like that plus we do not gel coat since it has to be sanded down anyway. Manufacturers use it on to hide all the pinholes and bubbles. Vacuum bagging or infusion is expensive and time consuming unless you don't mind doubling the cost of the parts and VE resin and fabric is light enough on a hand layup. Kitfox should have a conversation with their manufacturer. The only reason to go carbon fiber would be for the glossy CF look as the weight savings wouldn't be worth the expense or effort if you would be painting over it. You can use your now nice looking tips as plugs to make the mold. It will make a nice project after you are flying.

    Are those aftermarket wingtips or the wingtips that are now produced by kitfox at their factory?

    You could also add wing tip VG slats similar to the STi wing, also sometimes seen on tail feather as well.

    Nice work finishing a sub-standard part. Is that a Firman generator by the wingtip near the end of the video? Good price at Costco, but reviews not the best. Your thoughts, please.

      @BowenAero  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes it is, we have used it a lot here in Northern California where PG&E shuts off the power all the time. It has been reliable. Only issue I have had was when the oil cap backed off and it vented oil out.

    Is it possible that the step at the seam of the wing tip is designed to accept a clear lens that would cover your landing light?

    • @BowenAero
      @BowenAero  Před 4 lety +1

      There is a step for that, but what I refer to in the video is the uneven transition from the front peace to the back peace.

    shame about the wingtips. That is just a quality control issue, that's a complete lack of caring. Those obviously weren't bagged, which means lots of unnecessary resin contributing to their weight. They never should have see the inside of a shipping box.
