Beautiful song filled with a lot of sad truths, Julie. My dad used to wonder why there aren't proper protest songs like the ones when he was growing up in the 60s, so I know he would've loved this because it captures that same spirit. Incredible work, and the audio sounds fantastic. Great job, I look forward to hearing more of your music!
This gave me GOOSEBUMPS! And tears cause I know I am not alone. Thank you for making this song and thank you even more for sharing it with us. You have such a beautiful and STRONG voice. Please never stop ❤
I'm an Army Veteran from the Vietnam era. Didn't finish college, and I would've been drafted in August 1972 had I not checked my options out with a local recruiter. I lucked out and was in the ASA, Army Security Agency and held a Top Secret Clearance. Also, luckily, I did all of my 5 yrs without being stationed in a war zone.
Thank you for your service. My husband was drafted in 1969, a few months before our wedding. He was stationed at Presidio of SanFransisco for a few years, so our first son at Letterman Gen.Hodp.on base. Almost went to Germany, but he was too short on time left. Wow, that was a rough time for so many, as these times are for us all now. I’m truly doing a lot of praying. God bless you and your family. 🙏🏼🕊️🙏🏼
I grew up listening to revolution folk from the 70s and wishing I lived in a time when people still created such meaningful art. I'm 30 now, and realizing the kind of world that gives birth to that art.
Powerful and raw, this song lays bare the harsh realities of poverty and the desperate struggle for healthcare in the United States. Its lyrics are a haunting reflection of a broken system, resonating with the voices of those too often unheard. Thank you so much, Julie! Just beautiful and poignant! I am passing it along to those in my family.
That’s one hell of a song. Great job on this one. I’m amazed at the quality of recordings these days that one can produce at home. Time was when you had to go to a recording studio at a big expense to get this kind of excellence.
Brilliant metaphor. This is a great counterpoint to the garbage coming from the likes of Jason Aldean and Oliver Anthony. Thank you for writing it and putting it out there. As soon as I saw this I went to twitter (X 🙄) to see if anyone was talking about it. They are! I don't do TikTok or Reddit or Instagram really, but fortunately, I am subscribed to you here.
This is one of those tunes that gave me the tingles everywhere from my toes to the tips of my ears. Please never stop. You're an absolute gem and a true folk artist. 👏👏👏
The harsh truth in your beautiful timbre resonates with us all. You've captured the sentiment that millions are feeling. Thank you for this legendary tune.
Saw this on tiktok, came to interact. We need more attention on this. The working class are the foundation of this country and we are stepped on too callously. I'm not a man who's seeking a silver spoon, but I would damn well like to have a fighting chance to have atleast a peaceful life where I could actually provide a living for my family without tearing my body to shreds or working so many hours I never even see them. We're in a strange place in this world.
This is one of the most powerful revolutionary/American rebel songs I've heard... ever. I've listened to it on repeat maybe five or six times. I hope this explodes, and know the mainstream is *terrified* of this kind of message. Let's give them something to really be afraid of. ~with love ❤
I am really appreciating this song. Super happy to see it on Spotify so I can regularly playlist it! Also, my kids were very confused at first when you said it’s an angry song, but it became clear quite quickly!
I keep coming back to this over and over. It puts into words the endless thoughts I have on the state of the US. I don't have the words to express how much I'm grateful for this song. Thank you
Julie, this is incredible. Goosebumps, tears in my eyes, incredible. You are a breathtaking artist. I would be surprised if this didn't get millions of views. Whatever you do, please keep making art like this. It is food for the soul of a metaphysically undernourished society.
I hate admitting it, but I'm a music snob. I like all kinds, but there has to be that "something" in it... More than the pop math. Something that has something to really say. Something the artist themselves write and create. Not a lab or a room full of writers. This song... This has more than that. I'm not an emotional person. But I am American. And this song, the music, the lyrics... It made me cry. Not just because of how beautiful it sounds, and it does sound beautiful. No. It made me cry because I can't thing a another singular song in so many years that not only captured truth, but also essence. This song... It IS America. And that's what made me cry. I hope this catches unprecedented attention, am unbelievable amount of listeners. So many need to hear this. Thank you, so much, for sharing. I hope, someday soon, your lyrics will be a lie. Because as of now, no truer words have ever been spoken.
We'll done. I am Canadian and my daughter forwarded me your song as it is currently her favorite. She's playing it all the time. I think you have hit a nerve that people across the globe are feeling. It rings true up here in the Great White North as well. Well written, well sung.
Still my favorite song to listen to every day instead of the crap that youtube recommends . The whole song is perfectly executed . I hadnt noticed till now how Julie stops playing guitar to emphasize key words in the song . She's meticulously perfected every detail of this song . Her expressions are perfect . I hope the song is reaching the world , looks like the silver spoons want none of that .
Saw this on a Left-twitch stream today. Instant CZcams like and subscribe. Omfg *this* is music for our moment. I think I'll spread it when im done with a good cry.
Absolutely amazing. I saw someone post the TikTok video of this and came here to find the artist. Outstanding song. The words resonate with our modern American life, and the song itself has this wonderful Stevie Nicks meets Alison Krauss sound. I love everything about it - let me know where I can buy this when you publish it for download
Algorithm has not been kind to this video, heard it on Reddit but CZcams or Google search would not show me the video upon typing the lyrics. Had paste the URL to finally get it.
I shared it multiple times on Twitter with almost no link clicks . I think the establishment doesnt want to see this song get as much attention as Oliver Anthony did/is . The Silver Spooners are censoring it most likely . Im leaving the internet realm today but yall should push this song & this beautiful gal to their deserved rewards .
Brava! Phenomenal, great song for the times we’re living. You remind me of some of the wonderful protest singers of the 60s, when I was growing up. Judi Collins, Joan Baez, Joanie Mitchell, Buffy St.Marie, just a few. Keep up your beautiful &brilliant songwriting &singing! We love your music! You’re so talented! God bless you! 🙏🏼🕊️🙏🏼

Thank you so much for writing a protest song that 100% punches up. THIS is the type of protest song we need.

You know it's a good sign of hope when the young ones are singing like woody Guthrie
I hope you realize just how kuch the average person needs music like this. It helps the individual to know theyre not in it alone
