Lol! I’m exactly in this stage planning to hike in Florida this winter. I haven’t watched it yet but I liked it now because I’m definitely watching it this afternoon. The like is just for thinking to offer it up 👍. Thanks
Once again, outstanding video, Nick! Thank you so much for this! I’m there….except for the “”life at home” portion. Have thought extensively on how to reconcile an AT thru with responsibilities at home. That’s my last piece. You’re the best!
These videos are so helpful. Sometimes you don’t even know what you don’t know and this information makes us think. I now know I need at least a 65L pack and maybe 68-70. Your Atmos AG 65 is exactly the pack I’m thinking. I have an REI that can fit me. Maybe Aether 70?
For me, 65 has always been plenty big for a week + type of trip. For my next pack somewhere down the road, I’m sure I’ll get a 55 or 50. Just like in life, whatever space we got available, we’re gonna fill it with whatever “stuff” (as you aptly put it) that we have. But I def recommend the 65 atmos I got, love that thing to its core!
I did just watch the video and that for me was right on time. I’m a renter and coming to the end of a lease. 😂 I AM just letting it all go. Selling everything because it’s the “things” that trap me. I’ll worry about that if I survive my trip. Probably a year. I have been whittling away at things for years not even knowing why. I now avoid owning anything like the plague. I’m gonna do this Nick if it’s the last thing I do.
Love the determination!! Things can definitely weigh us down can’t they. I’ll tell ya what though, getting off trail is a beast in itself. The mentality you have on trail is so strong and distinct, that people can sometimes fall into a bit of a depression afterward, the post trail blues. So setting yourself up for success afterward is probably worth a bit of consideration. I’m so pumped for you!
@@PackAndSoul 😊that’s exactly what I did. I have a landing pad all set up. 👍I thought exactly the same thing and to be honest, it’s a great pre-planning suggestion because it removes a lot of stress and let me focus on the now. Maybe it’s the first thing we should do🤔. “PLANNING FOR THE DISMOUNT”.😂 Happy Trails.
@@donaldtimmons1472 should make an amendment to that vid and include it! Your absolutely right. Setting yourself up for success after the trail. Post trail depression is real!
Great video! I’m planning a through hike of the AT for April of 2025 and have a good idea of what I need but I was curious if you recommend a specific map? I have a great set of books that break the hike up and a map to go with each section. These are great for planning but I don’t think they’ll be sufficient for the trail. Is there a box set or should I look to buy state specific ones?
Thanks for watching! I used the AWOL guide (paper book) for the first half and then FarOut gps app on the phone (which used to be Guthook) for the second half. They’re great resources and what most people use :-) hope this helps
My question is always do I buy the stuff I “think” I need and match a pack to fit it or do I buy the pack I “think” I need and match the stuff to the size? 🤔
It’s a great question. My philosophy is however big your bag is, you’re gonna fill it. So I’d buy the pack that works for you - comfort, durability, and of course size, then the rest will work itself out. How big are you thinking?
@@PackAndSoul First off, I’m honored by the like from one of my favorite trail vloggers. Thank you. I love your section posts as well as your gear guides. I’ve learned a lot on your channel. I’m not a pure thru-hiker. I like sections in between town fun. Not as competitive (with myself)as maybe you are. I’m 58 though. Lol. I left most of it on the field years ago but what I got left is still really good! 😊. So, I want to go 55-60, just because I’m not in as much of a hurry and I need just a few more comforts. Still keeping it ultra light? Could a 46 be enough? I don’t think so. As for the Florida trail. I lived there for years and am a fishing fanatic! Fresh, salt, fly, flats, deep. I do it all. Spent alot of time in the brush hunting pigs, gaters, fishing but never really hiked it. Florida trail and a trip to 10,000 islands for some personal beach camping sounds great to me! I’m old and it’s flat too. Thanks again. I hope to see you on trail someday.
@@donaldtimmons1472 man I’m honored, really appreciate this comment. Love helping people out just like others helped me out (and continue to) with all things hiking. Being from south Florida myself, the Florida trail is close to the top of my list. It’ll happen one day! You sound like my brother, fishing fanatic! Love that. Let’s keep the conversation going, I’m pumped for you!
Hey Nick, I like the Atmos AG 65 anti-gravity system. It looks cooler where it meets your back but I’m worried about the way the top of pack is so close to my head. Has this ever bothered you? I’m also considering the Mystery ranch Terra-Frame 65. But I can’t put my hands on one. They are both available on Amazon. Is ordering Amazon available gear practical so that any thing you need is readily available? What’s your thoughts (if any) on the Terra Frame 65?
Plan plan plan.... then GO GO GO!
My husband and I love your channel! Thanks for all the amazing info and inspiration:) Blessings to you
Thanks so much for this comment! Truly means a lot.

I am planning and training for the AT in 2025. I appreciate this video. At 54 years of age, I need to learn all i can.

Bring something sentimental, In 2017 my 1st hike I had my 4 lb rock collection True Story Harper's to Jersey
You did not….. on second thought, sure you very much did
