You guys are shopping for the wrong car with the budget you guys have. Better off getting a used 2020 accord and using that down payment instead of buying the 328. Gonna be cheaper in the long run and you have a better platform 4 cylinder. Coming from an m6 owner too, any 328 you find for sub 5k is mostlikely gonna be a trash box 9/10 times.
Nobody is calling a 4cylinder bmw the ultimate driving machine - at least I hope not. The newer (and cooler) bmws are very reliable. BMW is now ranked 3rd in reliability, much due to their B58 and S58 motors that are being put it the M2 M3 M4 and all the 40is. Regardless, if you want to drive a reliable camry thats 100% totally fine, but the people who buy unreliable cars, buy them because its worth it. Mclarens spend half the year in the shop
Basically I'm just saying BMWs are alot more reliable now, but if it costs more money to own one, many people including me still think its worth it - I've never driven a more amazing car, I'm sure Audi and Mercedes are awesome too though. Its more than Point A to Point B for me
Even the smaller engines are fun. I’ve driven a 2015 328i and it’s engine is small but it’s quick and fun. Love bmws, never enjoyed Mercedes though they just feel like old people cars

That n52 is easily the best engine bmw has made in recent years. Minimal complication compared to forced induction models, and it's the final evolution of the n/a i6s they've been making for decades
My family has almost always had a bmw since I can remember and we never have problems, but then you go on CZcams and stuff and everyone complains that they are junk. I’m guessing they just don’t know how to maintain them.
People have to get their maintenance done on cars on time. If you think about who owns BMWs brand new it’s usually some young teens who run them into the ground and ignore everything. This may sound heavy handed, but they’re actually reliable. I had a 2014 328i lux, drove nearly 60k miles in one year and had no issues. Car is rock solid. Just check any auction or lot they have well over 100k on them. I have 134k on mine now, original timing chain, no leaks. Just a tune up, brakes, and turbo actuator, and front control arms. Not a big deal at all!
I owned 3 BMWS and 2 Camrys and I learned that the German engineering is you have to do and follow the all manufacture requirements like doing certain maintenance at certain mileage or replace certain part at certain time no matter how expensive it is you have to do all that no matter how expensive it is unlike Japanese engineering it’s designed to benefit the public and how the car still runs in it’s worst conditions ever because you might not be close to home or a repair shop near … but the ride and the performance in bmw is a lot better than Toyota by a lot but of course everything comes with a price .

Person that bought a used 4 cylinder turbo 228i here. I'm very upfront with people about how much I've spent on maintenance. Valve cover gasket leak, vacuum line, plus new brake pads and rotors (carbon ceramic brakes need both at the same time) were absolutely not cheap. The staggered tires won't be cheap to replace either, and it drinks premium fuel faster than I thought it would. Fortunately my car is a 2015 so it doesn't have timing chain issues, and the previous owner (my dad) properly maintained it. I've spent more on maintenance and operation than any other car. If it wasn't a convertible with amazing handling, I would have gotten something like a Honda or Toyota. It's just too fun to drive.
Special ordered BMW 2020 X5 here. Still new but drove it in at least 17 countries in Europe on two major road trips. No issues other than routine maintenance so far. My 2005 BMW R1150 GSA did great the decade I rode it all over North America solo. A lot depends upon when you buy it. My 1982 BMW 530 was strong in 2002 but I did have to change tje timing belt once.
The thing about BMWs, is that unlike, for example, a Subaru, if you actually do the maintenance they are reliable cars. Nobody wants to either A. Spend the time doing the maintenence yourself or B. Pay up to have it done.
I bought mine in 2019 brand new with 9 miles on the clock 4 years down the line it’s done 80 thousand miles and still running like I just bought it never had a problem and i never had to do anything to it just amazing car
New BMWs are very reliable, especially the B58 powered models. I don’t know what’s with people saying they aren’t, just do your routine maintenance and they’ll do 100,000+ miles with little to no issues. BMWs from 10+ years ago I can’t say the same
I have a 2011 3 series bought new. So far I’ve replaced the battery, the tires, the ignition coils, and window trim. Plus I put seat covers over the slightly cracked front seats and re-glued all 3 mirrors when the original glue gave out and they fell off. That’s it! If that’s “unreliable” it’s the BEST unreliable car if ever owned!👍
I have an x6 2016 and my friend has a 2015 x5 and no issues with 300k km and 150k km. No issues at all. Planning on keeping mine for another 10 years. I’ve had two . A 2006 318i coupe petrol manual . And now I have a 2009 320i coupe MSport . It’s an old car but it’s such a pleasure to drive . It’s worth the few euros I’ve had to invest in it . New Timing chain , battery , tyres. I recently drove it down to Lanzarote Canary Islands 🇮🇨 from Ireland 🇮🇪. 4 days it took . Two overnight cruise ferries. 12 hrs driving . It was crammed with luggage and equipment . Full roof box. Myself my fiancé and my dog . We spent 9 weeks down there . I did my PADI Divemaster course . Then before we journeyed back to Ireland I had it serviced and checked on the island - €125 including a diagnostic . The drive home was great and I’m still driving it . One of the injectors was a little bit growly when cold so I added some injector cleaner fluid to a full tank of petrol . Much better . 115,000 km on the clock . It still has a lot of power and sticks to the roads . If you don’t like BMW - don’t buy one . But stop wining like little bitches about them please ! It’s embarrassing. 😂

My E46 was a nightmare but...I learned a lot. My E92 was a shitshow but I loved that car. It was nice after the spark plugs, 2 starters, water pump, full suspension, exhaust brackets, engine mounts, pullys, oil pan, tpm, seat belt sensors, oil pump, hydraulic lifters, rollers, and cam shaft (of all parts to get damaged) all needed some attention. Great, great car. Seriously though, it's my all-time favorite car I've owned and taken care of. My X2 has actually been quite nice. 80k miles and nothing outside of brakes, tires, and routine maintenance. Maintenance that was covered, so I didn't even pay full price. I'd like to think BMW is doing better, but we'll see at 200k miles. My Grand Cherokee just hit 100k miles, and it did suffer one recall, screen delam (warranty), and the rear outlet kept blowing a fuse for no reason. Other than that, it does pretty well. If I had waited a year I could have bought the new GC. Oh well.
I have a 2013 BMW 328 xi. 53k miles, and I have not even needed to change the brakes yet. And none of the things you listed. So, yea. Greatest car I've EVER had, and it ain't close.
2013 BMW X3, bought with 95k miles, I’ve only ever done preventive stuff, yeah, little expensive, but in terms of reliability, it’s never broken down, never had an issue with weird noises or performance. So instead of paying HUGE corrective maintenance costs, I pay HUGE preventative maintenance costs and never stress about my car breaking down.
Here in Ireland I have over 112k km on my 2018 F20 118d and I've literally only changed oil, filters, and 2 sets of tyres. All maintenance done at the dealer. My first(!) brake pad replacement is due in 14k km - it does have the bigger "blue" brakes on it and they are more expensive to replace, but they did last a long time. I know that 112k km is not like an uber high mileage, but still I expected something to break, but nothing has broken so far, fingers crossed.

My 2016 435 had 100K miles and I only need to change the battery and do oil changes. Absolutely phenomenal machine to drive. I decided to get into an SUV but the Honda and Toyota test drives were boring as all get out. Mazda was pretty good. Then I tried a BMW X3 M40i and didn’t make it back to the parking lot before I asked him to start the paperwork. Amazing car.
I feel like the worst your experience with your own X5, the harsher your BMW comments have become over time. The newer generation of 4 and 6 cylinder BMW’s are fairly reliable if maintained. Don’t buy a V8.
I totally agree and I have also created videos on that topic. The b58 and B48 engines, while not perfect, do put out more power and so far appear to be leagues more reliable than the old n54 and even better than the older n55. V8 in the n63 is fun, but a pricey little so and so for the long term. Lease or sell after 3 years only.
I got a 2012 750i with 220,000 km and honestly drives great !! Just do regular oil changes and that’s it . Guys drive smoothly with it and keep up with the maintenance. That’s it
I really don’t get this. I have never ever heard anyone have any problem with a BMW. Is this an American thing? I have a 2015 1 series. It’s not old ofc but never had any problem with it whatsoever. Not like British or American cars…………

Its more than Point A to Point B for me
Electrical problems in the older BMWs is just lazy though, super lame
Even the smaller engines are fun. I’ve driven a 2015 328i and it’s engine is small but it’s quick and fun. Love bmws, never enjoyed Mercedes though they just feel like old people cars
@@caboose6411 I AGREE with you that BMWs really do have a FUN, SPORTY, & STYLISH look that make them hard to settle for the other "reliable" cars, such as Toyotas!! Don't get me wrong, I do agree that some of the cars that are called "reliable" are that, yet they are just not as fun & comfortable to drive. I think doing regular maintenance (before the manufacturers required miles, such as doing oil changes before 10k miles) is one of the ways to ensure one's BMW lasts. And it doesn't have expensive repair costs due to going too long without maintenance!!
Hahahaaha third in reliability yeah fuckin right hahaha
I’ve had my 2013 328i for 9 years and have had no issues at all except the thermostat was changed for free under a recall. 88k miles so far. No leaks of any kind, no timing chain issue, no other coolant system problems, no brake problems. Only oil changes, tires, batteries, brake fluid flush per maintenance schedule. I do change the oil more frequently than BMW recommends, but that’s it. Haven’t even replaced brake pads yet.
Lucky bro, I have a 2014 328 and it’s a piece of shit I take care of it and it just shits the bed. The tranny blew at 70 k miles and I had a 2016 s3 for 3 years w no problems. I feel like bmw is hit or miss

😂😂😂 The only thing that doesn't break on a BMW is the ENGINE LIGHT 😂😂😅
Haha
Of course if u buy over 200k mileage
I got a 2012 750i with 220,000 km and honestly drives great !! Just do regular oil changes and that’s it .
Guys drive smoothly with it and keep up with the maintenance. That’s it
I really don’t get this. I have never ever heard anyone have any problem with a BMW. Is this an American thing? I have a 2015 1 series. It’s not old ofc but never had any problem with it whatsoever. Not like British or American cars…………
sounds about right. valvetronic, CCV valve which means THE ENTIRE VALVE COVER. Transmission filter WHICH MEANS THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION pan, oil filter gasket, Mas sensor, 2 vanos valves, 2 vanos filters, 2 cam sensors, map sensor, Mechatronic valves, 2 dissa valves, six spark plugs, six coils, six injectors. Sunroof stopped opening, lift gate struts stopped working, drivers door open only sometimes from the outside. Hazard light dont work, AC stopped working. Other than that its been a great car.
Right?
I have 2014 428 no problems at all my belt popped once easy fix engine light has never turned on
Very nice
Thank you for the transparency because I was really thinking about buying one
Cheers
He's full of shit. I've got a 320d, remapped to 220bhp from 2014 and had 100% reliability from it.
My BMWs and Benz cost more to repair and had to repair more often than all my Japanese cars out together. My 2008 Lexus 200k miles still driving fine.
