Although Merson was right in what he said, I thought he chose the wrong time and the wrong place to say it. It shouldn't have been said in front of everyone else, it could make Ruddock feel as though Merson was belittling him. I certainly would have felt that way. I thought it would have been better if Merson had spoken to him privately.

My professional sporting heroes in the 80's and 90's, and I'd back myself to take any of them on over 5, 10 or 15km now. And there's a great sadness in that.
