I did see some parts of this movie as a kid but couldn't remember much more than the golden lady and how scary it was. Pretty sure I stopped watching after the mummification of the priest already.

What's a movie you didn't fully watch as a kid because it was to scary?
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory played by Johnny Depp because of Augustus Gloop getting sucked into the pipe pretty much scared me really badly and I hated it when someone mentioned that movie to me. I used to completely avoid that movie because of that scene. Same with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory played by Gene wilder because I hated seeing that pipe scene as a kid. As I got older I can now acknowledge that they’re both classics and really good movies.
I've been a fan of scary movies from an early age, so not too many things get me. As a teen I saw 1982's The Thing, there was a scene that had me looking away because it was too much.
That jump scar in the library/museum.....😂😂🤣🤣
The movie that i didn`t watch fully as a kid was the Poltergeist, then later in my life i really grew up enjoying watching horror movies. Now its one of my favourites genres to watch.
Jag var rädd för katla i bröderna lejonhjärta! But i have not seen it, saw, hostel, im not a huge horror fan. Especially not when it comes too things that can actually happend. Bra gjort som alltid sess! 😊
12:37 that happy: "oh, it's a little beatle" then a sudden face of horror😂
😂
The reason why Imhotep is afraid of cats is because cats/felines are supposed to be The Guardians or gate keepers between life and the land of the dead.
I’d not hear about that
I believe they explained that in this movie.
@@jp3813Theý did.

Also, doesn't Bastet have something to do with the underworld?
I had an instant crush when Rachel Weisz comes on screen. She's stunning in this!!!
Absolutely stunning indeed, so many of the main cast is 😳
I saw one of Omid Djalili's (Hassan, the guy at 12:45) stand up shows where he talked about making another film with Brad Pitt in Morocco - at a time when The Mummy just happened to be showing every day on Moroccan TV. They were filming a scene in a real-life marketplace and all the locals who passed kept looking at Brad Pitt not sure who he was, but everyone who saw Omid said "IT'S THE GUY FROM THE MUMMY!!!" and wanted pictures and autographs. 🤣
That’s such a fun story, thanks for sharing with me!
Not many make the connection between Evie and Imhotep thinking she's Anck-su-namun when he meets her in the tunnels.
He took the eyes of the guy who has really bad eyesight so during his initial stages after being awoken, he can't see very well.
Edit: that squeak you made at 17:56 is adorable.
Imagine if they gave him glasses....
I heard that there's a meme where people say that their sexual orientation is the cast of this movie. Specifically Rachel Weisz, Brendan Fraser, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, & Patricia Velasquez.
That wouldn’t surprise me, many in the cast are very handsome and charismatic on the screen
Yeah, I've seen a lot of jokes about this movie being the one to light the fire of a thousand bisexuals. 😁 Pirates of the Caribbean is also credited for younger people.
That makes no sense there's far better looking more attractive women & males that straight males could understand women being attracted to then Brendan frasier or the cast of this film series. I guess I could a case of brendan being sort of a nice guy type but I still don't see it while Chris Hemsworth or Tom Hardy I can see why women dig them as celebrities & even without their fame or fortunes let alone being nice down to earth guys even as famous & rich as they are. Keanu Reeves I also in a way can see. These would probably be the only 3 male celebrities of any sense of fame that I'd be remotely jealous of. Even the Idea of a woman being only covered in ink doesn't make her beautiful.
@@craighanson-rc1md You're already watching a reactor who says that this movie was her bi awakening. Hence, it's too late to be surprised by this thread. If you ever make your way to Japan or Korea, be sure to tell all the women there that being attracted to feminine-looking men doesn't make sense.
You suspected that Evie's boss burned the map on purpose, and you were right. His reason was the same as that of the Magii. Although, he attempted to burn the map to keep Hamunaptra from even being found, whereas the Magii were watching over the actual city.
Yeah, to bad they could still get there even with the damage to the map but I guess there wouldn’t be much of a movie otherwise 😅

24:05 - In case you are wondering why Imhotep rotted away when he kissed Evy, it was because Imhotep was still undead at that point and the curse was motivating him to finish killing everyone who opened the chest. That's why Beni stopped Burns (the guy with glasses who was first sucked dry by Imhotep) from touching Imhotep earlier and told Burns that Imhotep does not like to be touched.
I can't believe Brendan Fraser did his own stunt of hanging that almost killed him for real. Can't wait for the sequel reaction. Praying you get better!
Gr8 film and reaction! My late wife and I caught this one in the theater upon its release. Debbie was employed @ a CPA firm for a time where Brendan Fraser happened to be one of the clients. She met him on several occasions when he'd pop into the office (she noted that he was a very friendly, personable individual), and she even secured his autograph (this being about the period when "The Mummy" premiered), so therefore, for me, is now a special possession inherited from her in remembrance. She and I have enjoyed his performances going back to the days of "Encino Man and "George of the Jungle". His Oscar was well earned, too.
Thank you. 😊 That so cool that she meet him and got an autograph 😃 I’m sorry for you lose!
That is a sweet story! My late wife was also a big Brendan Fraser fan, watching these movies brings back some happy memories.
I love the "covering his bases" joke as you described it - it's initially goofy, but the way it segues in to a plot develop is genius!
This is a film with a lot of fun and charm and heart. I miss films like this, to me it feels like the major studios play it a bit too safe so you don't tend to get the films that take odd chances (except if they can fit them in to an easily marketable franchise). It helps that Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah are fantastically broad actors who can switch from comedy to tragedy so when the film needs that deeper moment, they have the acting talent to deliver it. There are some great moments in the seuel which most people who love the first film also enjoy (barring a few janky CGI bits...).
Fraser had a long acting hiatus, but if you fancy seeing John Hannah at his best, he is pretty good in Sliding Doors, and excellent in Four Weddings And A Funeral. For Rachel Weisz, there is a number of films you can pick, but the acting on the whole with her and Ralph Fiennes in "The Constant Gardener" is top level and I find it a fascinating and compelling story too.
If you want to try another charming adventure film from around this era, The Mask Of Zorro with Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta Jones is a bit of a throwback to the swashbuckling films of the 30s with lots of swordplay and a good dash of humour.
I kinda get what you mean that they don’t make movies like this anymore. I was maybe more of a trend back then. The actors was all good, would love to see more movies they’ve made. Thank you for the suggestion, the Zorro movie sounds interesting.
Sophie Phan did a reaction to this movie, and she said it was something like a bisexual awakening for her too.
🥰
(well, that’s not literally what she said, but she was gushing over both of our romantic leads!)
😅
lol That is next level creepy, dude.
The reason Beni was spared, and became use of Imhotep is because one of the prayers he said was a Jewish prayer, and Imhotep saying the language of the slaves is because in the Exodus the Jewish or Israelites as they were called were the slaves of the Egyptians. Sorry if my post triggered anyone negatively it’s the only way I could explain it.
7:43 fun fact, they actually hug him. This is not fake. This actually happened in fact, when the scene concluded, Brendan passed out almost done.
6:32 "Is he a grave robber?"
[The British Museum has entered the chat]
Very adorable when you started saying oh no in Swedish 😊
Thanks ☺️☺️☺️
Wonderful reaction! This is one of my favorite movies. Action and adventure, good vs. evil and even a couple love story plots. Also, it was adorable at the first scare when you swore in German. I laughed at my desk to that.
Thank you for the kind comment!
When O'Connell shouts "looks like you're on the wrong side of the RIVER!" I wonder why he said it like that? It was just a weird way to deliver a line.
I guess he was attempting to say it in a teasing and taunting way 🤔
He was imitating Beni's tone.
What? How was it weird? he was mimicking the way the other guy said it…pay attention

Great movie choice Sess! The Mummy was originally one of the earliest of horror movies alongside Dracula and the Frankenstein's monster. I've always enjoyed how they reimagined this version as a comedic action/adventure while still keeping some horror elements in place. Anyways hope you have an amazing weekend and looking forward to seeing what you bring us next! 😁
Hey Nathan thank you so much for watching and for being so kind to leave a comment. I haven’t seen any Dracula or Frankenstein movies. Are there any that are good?
Well one of my favorite films ever is an old Mel Brookes comedy titled Young Frankenstein. A silly little movie that parodies the old black and white thrillers my grandparents used to watch.😊
@@Sessis The movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula" from 1992 is faithful to the book and very good imo. It's very atmospheric. There are other adaptations but most are not as good I think. I haven't seen any Frankenstein movies I liked, but I also haven't seen many.
You said "You can't eat gold" and my immediate thought was your fellow Scandanavian, Aurora, her song "The Seed" and the line "You cannot eat money" Both quotes so equally true and equally relevant to all humankind.
I love Aurora she’s such a amazing women, and she likes to skip like me so that makes her top tier 😁😁😁
Finally someone who appreciates this movie! I like this movie! I remember back then my mom covered my eyes when they watched this and now seeing it as an adult I understand why Haha! But yeah you never disappoint with the reactions sessis!❤ Keep it up! I hope you react next to The Hangover
Thank you for sharing your memories with me! I’ve not seen that movies so maybe I’ll watch it in the future. Thank you for the kind words ☺️
Love your movie reactions so far. Keep it up ❤
Thank you so much!! That really means so much to hear 💜
I appreciate that you brought your orientation up. It's important to talk openly about these things, which hasn't always been the case. I remember when I was around 11 or 12 years old in the late 90s, watching the movie Starship Troopers with a couple of friends. I don't know if you've seen it, but there's a famous shower scene in which both male and female soldiers are featured - all naked. I remember how my friends (boys) drooled over those bare tits, but I didn't pay that much attention to them. But I sure got really excited (and a concrete physical reaction) when I saw Casper Van Dien's absolutely gorgeous bum at the end of the scene. I didn't feel like mentioning it much to my friends. 😅 Movies can help people realize interesting things about themselves.
This showed up on my home page so I thought I would check it out. So happy I did! Wonderful reaction and you got a new subscriber ☺
Wow thank you so much, that really cheers me up after a bad night of sleep.
You're welcome! Glad I cheered you up! I'll make sure and keep doing that 😁
“A bit of a mess” is an example of classic British understatement.
One time, it may have resulted in a tragedy when British pilots reported being “in a bit of trouble,” and the airport tower control didn’t think it was an emergency based on their words
Oh wow that’s unfortunate usage of words then 😅
It seems to me that some of the plagues needed to be shown for the sake of the story, but not all of them. And considering that there were ten plagues, it would probably have gotten too monotonous.
Also, I don't know how they could have included the final plague, the death of the firstborn.
Yeah it probably would have not worked to have all ten in the movie
17:29 Just like you I saw this movie growing up and I also agree with the fact that as a kid this movie was definitely scary especially the parts with the flesh eating scarabs those parts gave me nightmares and terrified me as a kid.
Right does scarabs are so terrifying and makes my skin crawl. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!

Thank you so very much!! Hope you enjoy my other videos and any future ones as well 😃
The fact that you're swedish makes me relate to your reaction to the movie. I saw it as a kid too but understood nothing and just ended up scared.
Thats why i tend to prefer animation. Speaking of, this franchise spawned a cartoon.
What cartoon did it spawn? I haven’t heard of that before 😃
Sessis, chuckled when you were startled at the first jump scare. Is it evil of me that now I'd like for you to watch more scary movies? 😄
Haha no I get it, I’ve been known to provide some scream queen worthy screams when playing scary games for Halloween on Twitch 😂 people seem to enjoy them 😅
@@Sessis Let me recommend The Descent. 6 women go caving, and nothing scary happens, and it won't trigger any sense of claustrophobia... I'm totally kidding, it's a fantastically constructed movie that was shot for less than £5m if I recall, but if you're claustrophobic it is a tough, tough watch. There is a lot I can recommend about it, especially the European cut, but no issues if it sounds like something that would make you too uncomfortable to watch on camera
Five Nights at Freddy’s
Amazing reaction!! I would love to see your reaction to the original Mummy from 1932 and The Mummy from 1959, both incredible movies

Nice reactions! You're a good observer and your emotions are always sincere. Got hooked from The Green Mile
Thank you so much for your very kind comment! I really appreciate it. I shouldn’t need external validation but it’s nice to receive it 😃 I’m looking forward to watching The Mummy 2, wonder if there’s other movies like this I haven’t seen. Like light hearted adventure films🤔
@@Sessis have you ever seen "Around the world in 80 days" with Jackie Chan?
This movie was my bisexual awakening too. As soon as Anck-su-Namun sauntered onto the screen, I fell in love. Then I started noticing how clothing impaired Imhotep was. It was too much hotness for one movie.
The Exorcist. I tried to watch it with my big sisters when I was 9. It was also around this time that I was Enchanted by Amy Adams.
The Exorcist sounds like a terrifying movie. Can’t imagine seeing it as a kid.
That scene where the daughter started hunting what should've been her favorite body part was too much.. Your brunette, btw, is quite stunning. Have you seen Amy in American Hustle or Charlie Wilson? 😘
Lovely reaction, Sessis, I know what you mean about awakening - the main cast is *gorgeous*.
Thank you for the compliment on the reaction. Right the cast are all so pretty
Love that movie a lot!!!!! Definitely one of those that made me realize that I'm not straight at all🤣
Haha seems we are quite a few people with that experience from this movie 😃
All the seens with Ankhesenamun and Evy I remember thinking they should run away together lol.
If you liked this movie, you will love the sequel Mummy - returns ! xx
Think I watched the all by now 🤔 except that new one which I’ll probably skip
The time period this is set in torches were often the main lighting along with candles. Electricity has only been common for the past 80-90 years. Even today over a third of the world is without dependable electricity.
It’s seems to be taking place after the First World War, which means Egypt would have had electricity already. Would think a museum would definitely be connected
I guess they needed the open flame to make it easier to burn the map. I enjoyed your reaction. Keep making them and I will keep watching. The sequel is pretty good also.@@Sessis
My bisexual awakening..."I understand my junk self..." Christ, I must have ruptured something...
it's sucks that she will never see the mummy: rise of the aztec which would complete her reaction on the mummy series.
That’s a shame the movie got canceled
When Rick throws the chair at Beni, I laugh every time. It's such a perfect little scene that illustrates Rick and Beni's characters perfectly. And it's funny.
Stephen Sommer, the director of this and The Mummy Returns, also directed Van Helsing. It's another fun, stupid action movie with charm galore. The guy loved his classic Universal monster movies, and there's a lot more heart in his movies than is apparent on the surface.
LOL Sessis you probably dont know this but Evie the librarian is in real life married to Former James Bond actor Daniel Craig & has been for nearly 14 years.
Fun movie! By the way, the 2007 "Mummy" film, with Tom Cruise, is also a lot of fun. It got ragged on because it was supposed to be the start of a "Shared Universe"-franchise, but the film didn't do well enough to get that kicked off. That said, the film is a blast to watch! Hardcore Horror fans were mad because it was too much of an Action-movie hybrid with Horror, but I thought it was a fun Popcorn movie. You'll like it!
Loved this reaction. I think it might be my favorite. The jump scares and how annoyed you got at the characters (the guy that burnt the map, Jonathan with the golden book and Evelyn when she wants to get the book that Jonathan dropped in the water) made me laugh out loud.
Thank you Nala!
6:28 The actor playing her brother is in a satirical crime show called A Touch Of Cloth.
I will watch this movie whenever I get a chance. It's just one of those comfort movies that is great to watch on your own or start watching if it comes on TV. It has a great blend of action and comedy and I really love the chemistry that the cast has. I really hope you also watch 'The Mummy Returns' because it's a really fun movie even though it does have a small part in it that has the worst CGI you will ever see in a movie (yes, it's REALLY bad even at the time of the movie). Great reaction as always!
I really enjoyed the movie so I’m definitely checking out the sequel as well!
The museum may have been lit with torches because it was Egypt in the 1940s.
Speaking of the 1940s, society was MUCH more misogynistic back then. So, not many women were educated in fields like archaeology so the remark "what does a women know" was typical, especially if it was a man from the Middle East.
Thank you for this reaction! The 10 plagues were not curses, but acts of God to punish the arrogant Pharaoh for refusing to set the Hebrews free. I really think you should watch Dreamworks The Prince of Egypt as it explains the 10 plagues and shows the effects it had on the land of Egypt. I really would love to see you react to the rest of The Mummy trilogy! The second film is the superior of the trilogy and the third film has a nice change of scenery for the culture and myths. If would love more Brendan Fraser films, here are some suggestions: George of the Jungle, Loony Tunes: Back In Action, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Inkheart, and Furry Vengeance.
🧟♂️💛🖤🤎
Thank you! I’m definitely watching the other mummy movies too in the future. I’d definitely say that the 10 plagues qualifies to be called curses, only someone very twisted would subject others to something like that. I might check out some of the movies of Brendan Fraser, thanks for the suggestions
@@Sessis Well, the 10 plagues came from God. So yeah, very twisted. lol

my fav part when bf roars back
I actually got that DVD movie ❤
You do? That’s cool, are those rare now that everything is digital?
Awesome pick, I too saw this as a kid initially and I find it interesting that this was a movie that can be considered sort of a shared experience for people around our generation. I’ve heard about a lot of people watching this when they were children and two things coming out of it: one it was the first exposure to any real horror and two an undeniable attraction to Rachel Weiz, Brendan Fraser, or both.
Yeah it seems many people have a similar experience with this movie and I mean very understandable!
“Why would he tell him that he just helped him out” no he didn’t because they’re still on the wrong side
For you it was a bisexual awakening. For me, it either confirmed or reinforced being hetero lol
Well, Patricia Velasquez who plays Anck-Su-Namun is lesbian in real life...
She is? I didn’t know that
Great reaction! Knew you'd like the first scene 😆
Thank you Radioactive sessHug
The bookshelves scene was done in one take. How fortunate. Imagine the number of hours saved by not having to reset everything.
Oh that’s impressive that they got it in one take
The way they accomplished it was by having a stuntman in drag tip over the first bookshelf. The camera turned to follow the others toppling, and when they were all down, all Rachel Weiss had to do was pop up into frame at the appropriate time. She, of course was squatting just below the camera's view.
I've said it before and I will always say it with both pride and confidence: The Mummy AND The Mummy Returns are both better than The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor. I LOVE the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz (love Maria Bello, but her faked accent left everything to be desired) and while I LOVE Jet Li, Arnold Vosloo plays a villainous ancient corpse way better. Also, as many times as I've seen this movie, I always get jumpscared when Jonathan pops up out of the sarcophagus with that mummy to scare his sister.
Fun facts:
Camels are slower than horses, but are built for life in the desert. Even though they do eventually need to eat and drink, they can live off the fat reserves in their humps for short periods of time, they have long eyelashes to keep sand and dust out of their eyes, what they lack in speed, they make up for in endurance, and they have large feet, so they don't sink into the sand when they're walking.
You know the swarm of locusts that emerges as soon as Imhotep wakes up? The ones that are crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish.
I don't think that there's anyone who would disagree with you about TM and TMR. But even the third one I think is much better than Tom Cruise's "Mummy" reboot. And TMR is great except for the extremely dated and bad CGI of Dwayne The Rock Johnson's Scorpion King. I also love Arnold Vosloo's villian in "Hard Target" (1993), and in "G.I. Joe" (2009)
I haven’t seen any other mummy movies then this one, so I wouldn’t know which one I like the best. Thank you for the fun fact about camels I love learning things like that.

While Blast From The Past (1999) is more of a rom-com
12:31 - 12:55 that whole scene scared the shit out of me when i was a kid and that is the only thing i remember from this movie, every time someone mention The Mummy the only two things i see in my head is a sand head and that F-ing scene. but i stil watched the whole movie plenty of times sessDerp and BTW great Vid as always Sess : )
Thank you Farzan and indeed it’s really scary especially as a kid seeing that
The actress playing Akusanamun, probably butchered it. She is in The Curse Of La Llorona.
I wonder where sessis is from?
I’m from Sweden
"fudge" must be some kind of German swear word?
I don’t think it’s German specifically. I thought it most used by English speakers when not wanting to say the F word? I’ve no idea, I’m Swedish myself
@@Sessis my bad, I missed my accent guess. you are right it is, I just think its funny
Great reaction Sessis like always, I remember when this movie came out it was so fun to watch i really enjoy it, great cast. The Mummy is a Universal movie, and the Mummy is one of the classic Universal monsters. Though Universal did not invent the concept of the mummy, “The Mummy” is their character. This 1999 movie is considered a remake of 1932’s The Mummy, even if it doesn’t feel much like a remake, and some fun facts about this movie this was shoot in africa and not in Marrakech, Morocco, and then they went to shoot in the Sahara Desert in Morocco and was wellIt’s hard to avoid dehydration in the desert. Apparently, it’s impossible to avoid sandstorms. Sandstorms interrupted shooting basically every day of the production. More concerning is the fact multiple members of the crew were hospitalized for being bitten or stung by bugs and animals in the Sahara. And in that scene where O’Connell is hanged, Fraser actually stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated. In their respective DVD commentaries, both Fraser and Sommers point to a close-up in the scene where he couldn’t quite touch his toes as he hung in the noose, and ended up passing out. Keep up the amazing work Sessis. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
Omg that sounds absolutely wild. Can’t believe they allowed to put the actor at such risk. Thanks for sharing all these behind the scene stories
There aren’t many types of bugs capable of burrowing into your skin, but they’re out there. Some such as the bot fly will even lay their eggs under your skin.
That’s terrifying. I was thinking of ringworms and such when asking if bugs can do it too
Also thank you toast for coming back and watching this reaction too 🫶
@@Sessis sorry for the nightmare fuel, Sessis 😂 of course! Always looking forward to new Sessis videos 👏
Woot Let's go!!!!!! Will edit as I go along, because I am ADD like that. :P Nothing says love like self sacrifice! Ok, Librarians are totally HOT! Yes, there are bugs that can do that. Sessmuahaha. Keep it secret, Keep it safe! There is indeed 2 more sequels. However I would only advise the next one "The Mummy Returns" It's my favorite, and the best of the bunch. Excellent job Sess!!! Last edit: OLDER!! Older movie! It came out in 1999!!!! I was 21!!!! ::SessStare::
