Zero Hour: Crisis In Time by Dan Jurgens is put under the microscope!
This event was intended to deal with numerous possible futures and alternate timelines in the same way the earlier Crisis on Infinite Earths had dealt with alternate realities. The destruction of the timestream by Parallax (Hal Jordan), was him attempting to restructure the universe and correct things that he perceived to be wrong. The conflict resulted in an entirely new Big Bang, which rebooted the entire DC Universe with subtle differences. It also served as an opportunity to clear up continuity problems, and fix plot elements and pieces of history that no longer worked well.

I loved the art! However, the story itself was lackluster for me. It felt rushed and it left more problems than it solved.!Not to mention that Dc did Hal Jordan, Hawkman and Wonder Woman (retcon Diana’s origin) wrong and it still feels like it to this day.
Extant could have been better as a villain if Hal wasn’t the bad guy.
