  • The Evercade is a new retro handheld that has its own cartridges with licensed games, protective cases and full color manuals. Will game collectors think this is madness...or perhaps genius?!

They are most likely nothing but plastic with no chips. They just use the carts to limit the games the system will show so they can sell extra jumpers to show other games. All the games are already on the system, you just have to trip the jumper to show them.

I agree with the sentiment... But let's be real for a moment, the eventual selling point of this machine will be good portable emulation for 8bit and 16bit games. That's why the creators put out that statement on their site. They know it. We know it. Pirates know it. But we can't flat out say it or else they would be sued into oblivion by Nintendo and all other companies in class action. Its noble of them to release these cartridge packs but come on. Its like PSP but with good emulators. Because that is all anyone ever did with the psp.

KeijiMaeda86 Your completely missing the point of this. There’s literally thousands of devices you can use to play roms on but you never really OWN them, your playing them illegally. It’s nice to actually own fully licensed physical copies and the cartridge format just adds to the nostalgia feeling.
When you have access to hundreds of thousands of games you never really focus on the game your playing.... With something like this you can actually focus on the few games you’ve got with you and you own...

The unused pins are there just for priority or aesthetic reasons or maybe future extensions. This is a very cheap way to make a priority format and very easy to format or 'program', 1 GB is enough to store many games. The question is however, what kind of partitions they use, I quess some linux partition(s) with directories for the games and the savestates. It is possible it is protected or encoded. For all the games that haven't been re-released for Switch like the mega man games have, or probably won't ever get re-released for any console, I can emulate them and play them on the big TV. Like stuff like GBA games look amazing on a big TV, and I think this GPD thing costs less than the gameboy advance consolizer, but obviously does more cos it's basically an android phone with physical buttons so it can run any android emulator that exists. Warioland 4 looks gorgeous on a big TV. That game needs re-releasing on the switch but they don't port GBA games, it seems. Capcom are gonna be the first to do it when their mega man zx collection comes out, so I'll buy that. But there's so many great games that would be so much better with the high quality switch screen compared to the old GBA ones. But until then I've got this little fake 3DS thing for all the other thousands of games. The HDMI output really did sell it to me as the other handheld emulator devices don't seem to have that

The black units are all sold out, but they do have an all-in bundle that should be mentioned. The all-in bundle includes all the current cartridges except the Technos cartridge, and at this time it retails for $198.01 through Funstock. Being a British site, Funstock prices everything in pounds, so the price will fluctuate quite a bit, but they do international shipping, so you can get the all-in bundle regardless of where you live. You also get a carrying case for buying the all-in bundle, which will cost the same amount as a cartridge if you decide you want one later. I’m glad you asked about the arcade versions, by the way. On the Facebook group they have noted that the Evercade can play arcade roms, but that they are sticking to console ports for now. They didn’t mention that it was because of aspect ratios, though. Trying to pass off home console versions instead of arcade versions as a "plus point" stinks. The only reason people played consoles back in the day is because the arcade version would be unattainable in your own home! Of course we want the arcade version now!
Having said all that, I still want it.
    I have a broken soul.

The Menu, Select, and Start buttons look like they would get in the way of the down and A buttons. Did you have an issues with that?

Probably if you hold it like a weirdo from the bottom. Normal people will have their thumbs coming from the sides so unless you have sausage fingers (fat) it should be fine.

The 7800 version of Desert Falcon was hella fun. And nice shoutout on Xevious. I used to play that for hours, again on the 7800.

I think color scheme of the handheld makes it look cheap. Also the gap between lcd and glass looks bad. I need a more technical review for both software and hardware side. No matter what I hope they can be succesfull and improve it on the next revisions.

Yeah, the styling of it doesn't give me much confidence either.
It looks either very cheap, or like a prototype device built using 3d printing and such...

I like the carts and the manuals, but it still smells like emulation, so the price I'm willing to pay for the system is only about half of the $99 I'm seeing. I've always wondered why a system like this doesn't come out that uses one of those system on-a-chip clones built into each cart, and just pass I/O out the cart pins. I'm assuming this one doesn't do anything like that. Also no replaceable cells (AA etc) makes it a bit disposable. None of these will work in 20 years and good luck finding a new battery. Heck, it's hard enough to keep a psp alive these days.

    • @razerow3391
      @razerow3391 Před 2 lety

cause the SOC is one of the most expensive parts... That... That makes no sense. And of course it's emulation... That's the only way you can do multiple platforms... LOL. Jesus. I/O pins? Wtf are you on about? When someone with a limited grasp of hardware and engineering opens their mouth... I mean wow. But sure... Have the SOC and ROM all on the game making the production of the carts expensive. Smart.
You realise the point of this is not to last forever but so nerds can play these games if they can't find them in the wild or afford the prices of a working console... If they release a Neo Geo Pocket Colour or SNK collection how many people do you think can afford them? LOL. And what has batteries got to do with it? It's not like a phone battery that has a short life because of how often it is charged... You gonna be playing this for 4-5 hours a day? Fuck me... Get a job, loser.
But sure... The carts are stupid, says the person that owns a PSP... HAHAHAHA. Oh dear. A year on and the Evercade is already better supported than that paperweight.
Fuck off back to your mother's basement, nerd.

I don't see the point in something like this compared to piracy / emulation handhelds. The battery life is also crappy, at only 4 to 5 hours.

I picked up a system for Christmas and have to say it's my favorite console. Don't think I'm going for a complete collection but will definitely pick up all the old school vibe games!
