His lawyer had him try it on and it was too small...And he said, the famous phrase. The question is why were those small gloves there? Was it someone else that did the murder? Did OJs team plant them? They did have his shoe prints supposedly...but there were lots of messiness and I never trusted the LAPD. Great TV though. lol

ROOKIE SEASON was when that was happening which is due to his nerves performing under the microscope that was on him when Walsh drafted him in 1985. Bay area sports journalists were just taking shots at him and Walsh's reasoning for drafting him in the first place. He used Stickum throughout that season out of frustration and fear that joe montana would "lose the faith in him" but Joe reassured Jerry that if he was open he was getting the ball thrown to him and when that began to happen he gained the confidence to perform under that pressure and the Stickum became a footnote in history until he mentioned it causally in an interview saying exactly the story I just brought up.
When that happened Pats fans specifically referred to it as the way to absolve Tom Brady and B. Belechick of Spygate and Deflategate. They've been pretty successful because they're the closest thing to a plague of locusts I've ever seen identify themselves as Pats fans and go around to Joe Montana videos so much just to troll and dislike he video.
Let me just say that Jerry Rice cheated and did so for a period of time in his rookie season, despite the fact he brought it up and admitted to it in the first place doesn't absolve him of what he did. But when you have created a spying-network akin to the NSA that was active for YEARS until they were caught doing so and both men benefited from the information gathered, not to mention the deflategate saga was also a situation where Brady had been caught doing so and sense he refused to hand over his phone and break it in front of the authorities is the smoking gun that the information on it would prove his guilt and so they lost draft picks and Brady was suspended for 4 games. A fucking slap on the wrist is what it was. Imagine being Marshall Faulk who was apart of the greatest show on turf ending up losing the superbowl to the 2001 New England Patriots only to find out years later that that bitter loss was due to the information gathered by Bill Belechick through Spygate. I would want to take a hot metal brand and burn an asterisk right on the front of that trophy so they can be reminded forever that when you tarnish the purity of the game to such a degree that your whole franchise's success isn't as much Belechick and Brady but rather the cheat sheets gained by knowing what that rams offense was going to do on every play in that superbowl.
There is a hierarchy regarding what constitutes a lesser but still illegal act of cheating for advantage to more egregious levels of gaining an advantage over opponents that were all deemed illegal. However, what was discovered going on in Foxburough is the most infamous act of cheating in NFL history due to fact that a case against the Patriots had to be filed by NFL themselves to keep it as quiet as possible volumes . While it is cheating and I'm not defending it, anyone comparing what Jerry did as the same thing to what the patriots did is a fucking idiot. Stickum doesn't enable you to catch the ball with your finger tips, Jerry Rice, whether he incorporated that technique as a result of giving up the Stickum is unknown but it acts as a hinderance if you're catching the ball with your finger tips as you also bring the ball in to securely cradle it as you get tackled or run for a touchdown. If that adhesive is spread over the palms of his hands that becomes too much surface area covered with stickum and makes the ball unpredictable to catch and cradle as you get hit or run after the reception. Avoiding Stickum on the palms lets you have greater control of the ball seeing as how Jerry didn't realize this initially and struggled even more developing confidence in his abilities. He was great in practice but when it came to the games on sunday that ROOKIE YEAR AND ROOKIE YEAR ONLY his use of Stickum was counterproductive to the very thing he wanted to achieve in the first place.
Jerry Rice is still the GOAT and Brady ain't nothing but the LOAT (Luckiest of all time) to be drafted by a coach so ruthless at this point in his career after nearly resurrecting the Browns before the fucking owner moved it during the season they were having one of their best years I can understand how sick of playing by the rules that he just wanted to win. But, you reading this right now: are you willing to sell your soul, tarnish the game forever, and invalidate the legitimacy of all your superbowl victories? With BB it's an of course. That is why it's important that not all crimes are judged with a one size fits all punishment designed for both a parking ticket and a serial killer as equally the same offense in the eyes of the justice system and the same analogy applies to what Jerry Rice did to how much more serious and destructive it was to the league and the game itself when Bill Belechick and Tom Brady's deflategate and spygate was brought to public knowledge. It was never a "WITCH HUNT" as so many Bostonians claim...well they'd know a witch hunt when they see it considering the Salem Witch Trials were held in the same state and both cities are only 31 miles away from each other LOL!
By the way, how does stickum help with enhancing how much more dedicated you'll have to be to succeed in the league? You know? The kind of dedication it'll take on conditioning your body (without steroids and before the advent of modern PEDs) to the point of it's highest potential every year, for over 20 years in the NFL and still be putting up 1200 receiving yards in a season at age 40? TOM WHO? Exactly bitches. Jerry Rice is the GOAT kiss my ass Brady and Bill Belechick, thanks for Jimmy G...until we realized he's even dumber than Tom Brady is.

Contrary to the current narrative floating around the internet (that stickum made Jerry Rice Jerry Rice LOL), stickum actually worked against his ability to catch the ball because the way Jerry caught the ball was always with his fingers and not his palms. But putting that adhesive on the surface of his palms created an additional sticky surface area that while on paper you'd think would increase the odds of a successful catch but doesn't considering what sticks to one thing, sticks to another and the more you have of it, the more you have to deal with the consequences of coming into contact with it.
What peace of mind Jerry had gained initially in his rookie season using Stickum was undermined every game because he was so nervous coming in to the 49ers, an opportunity of a lifetime for a kid who grew up in relative obscurity, he was dropping balls under the pressure of adjusting to the huge microscope you are put under when playing in the NFL in front of the nation every sunday. Far cry from the humble Mississippi State games. I give all that credit to Joe Montana's "Joe Cool" ability to put other teammates at ease under the biggest of big game situations (ask Harold Barton about his own "Joe Cool" story at Superbowl 23).
Jerry has said this ad nauseum in interviews over the years that his bad performances would result in Montana "losing the faith" in his abilites. That never happened and let me explain why it never happened. Joe Montana is the GOAT of QBs. His mental toughness was immeasurable. He never choked. He is the personification of Clutch. You couldn't trip him up or psyche him out. During a time when defenses in the NFL were known for their QB KILLERS. Guys like LT, White, Smith, Haley, Singletary played when roughing the passer was what they were supposed to do to the QB. With Montana you'd have to injure him to such an extent that he'd have to be taken out of the game if you wanted to stop him (86 nfc playoff game against the Giants, 90 Nfc Championship against the Giants, and 93 Afc playoff game against the Bills are 3 examples of that actually occurring).
Football has always been a sport referred to as 10% Physical and 90% Mental. The part that Joe had no weaknesses in was the mental and I hope that little soliloquy of mine should help explain why. Joe's support and full confidence during that rookie year was what Jerry needed to exorcize the mental gremlins in his head. When that happened all those dropped passes became a footnote in history and the "Montana to Rice" legend was born.

Adhesives are only banned in the NFL if they leave residue on the ball, like Stickum did. If it doesn't leave a residue, it's perfectly legal to use. And yes, there are adhesives available that do exactly that and are WIDELY used. It has NOTHING to do with giving players an edge or being considered cheating, that ISN'T why Stickum was banned. Those are FACTS.
