I do believe that a large part of this comes down to limiting player empowerment. By not allowing for individuality in their gear, the players become much less distringuishable from their peers and it become harder for them to stand out, making them seem more interchangeable and less valuable as individual contributors in the scope of team success. This leads to less bargaining power and leverage in contract negotations over time.

See their jerseys are made of polyester which is already slippery it just made it harder to hold on to & the sticky tape would make it so the jersey couldn’t be ripped from the pads making it harder to grab , smart ideal , even their pants are polyester so imagine the possibility at that time .
