What does it take to win a large MESBG tournament?

- Kevin shares his experiences at the recent Northern Ireland GT. It was a GBHL and IHL 100 tournament with 56 attendees and some stiff competition. He also shares some tips on what you can do to improve your odds at a tournament!

On the topic of the Shire not winning a 2 day 1000pt event, recently we just had the Australian Championship run by games workshop and it was won by 'The Shire',

I've watched your easterlings strategy video a while ago and have been crushing my local scene with it at 500-600 points. It almost feels a bit like cheating or taking a cheesy min-maxed list. It's a lot of fun to play though and I really need to add more acolytes.
However, for an upcoming tournament I'm considering a less competitive list at 750pts: Helm's Guard. Still not sure if it's the right choice though since he'll instantly lose against magic. Maybe I'd still go for easterlings ^^

The Tournament Point Scoring is very interesting. Im in Texas, and people would riot if a guy with less wins than another beat him in standings. But i get why people would want to do it differently.
I did really enjoy it. It puts more emphasis on fighting for VP's rather than just cheesing out a win by leader kill or something.

May I ask you what made you prefer numbers over one more warband? Don't you think 8 might is kinda low at 800?
The Easterling LL doesn't typically use a lot of might. There are many turns where you don't mind the opponent having priority or doing a heroic move, if you've positioned properly. Rutabi's master of battle also helps. More numbers means more benefits from the emperor banner/bonuses, to the point where your warriors do all the work, and your heroes are just there to manage the opponent a bit.

I see, that's something I actually argue a bit with a friend of mine. I say that the Emperor has flipped the Easterlings upside down, because they used to be Heroes-focused and now they are troops-focused. He disagrees.
I may feel the need for Might since he used to play Lame Town Soup and bring to the table some 15 might. God I love the latest FAQs and erratas.

@@massimilianomorato5059 nah, bows are overrated. Daggers make their mounted heroes be a bit careful. Drum up and punch them in the face

@@wookiesofmirkwood7780 Aye indeed it is, ah that is a shame, I'm finally getting into MESBG after being on the fence about it for years. Aye indeed hopefully we can get a game in one day though I'm sort of reliant on Ben or Alex to tell me about events as I despise Facebook
I dislike Facebook as well, unfortunately it is a necessary evil for international mesbg events. Thankfully for the Dutch events we've created a discord server for all of the players. Over 200 strong at this point!
Awww man Facebook is awful. As Kevin said it's a necessary evil! Il make sure Ben and Alex keep you well informed haha
