    The yellow thing is called a Come-along. the littelt skinny hug he first put on is to keep the
    curent the same betwine the helicopter and the wire. The rotor blade create friktion in the air. So if that is not on he can get saped. like rubbing a balloon so you your hair stand up. But with a mutch bigger volt diffrentce.
    The big wire are so the curent are the same betwine the wire when he remove the isolater.
    its all about having the same volt all the way around. And yeah its the 0 wire on top but its isolated so you dont get choked if you tuch the mast on the ground.

    The chain contraption is called a wire strainer. They use them for farming as well for fences. Cool video.

      Chain hoist, we don’t use wire strainers for powerlines simply because we need a lot more tension than what strainers provide.

      @@keithstonebusch1473 chain hoists are for pussys. I use the skid to lift the shield wire so the lineman can pull the insulator.

    The clamp he's attaching to the cable is called a come along in the UK, it allows you to put tension on the line to take the slack out or for dismantling work or as in this case changing the insulators where you have to create some slack line first. The cable joining the two cables is a jumper and the isolators prevent the power from making contact with the tower and shorting out. This tower would be called a section tower as it has a jumper between and others with the cables hanging below are intermediates and hang from the insulators

    She's an MD500E. No hydraulics on 500, very organic. Anti-clockwise rotation, so left skid low. Have on one occasion seen them take a P2 so he can fly it from right seat when it better suited wind & powerline alignment.
    Can I ask what camera & helmet mounting you use please???

      Thanks :) it's a gopro on a custom 3d printed mount that's stuck to the helmet via a gopro sticky mount

      @@harezy I need to find a way to mount my camera on my Alpha Series lid so that it doesn't clatter the canopy every time I duck out...! 😖
      I'll stick to getting footage from the 500... UDW will knock me out of the park with the 350s! (Both footage and flying!) 😃

    The 500 is super nice, not many of them in Norway unfortunately. But I've seen Morten P in HeliTrack been doing a lot of line inspection in my area with the 520 NOTAR, which is rare as well. Pretty awesome footage btw :)

    These pilots and linemen have to be the most skilled on the planet. I've seen them working up close and personal from directly below a tower. The stillness of the chopper is mind blowing. This perspective was fantastic, i felt like I was right there. Thanks

    How much talented must someone be to hold the helicopter so steady and for so long? I mean I can hardly hold the Huey in hover for 2-3 minutes in DCS. I really admire helicopter pilots doing this kind of job and also the sling pilots :)

    The MD-500 is the best one and a good friend of mine does this type of work and the most important is holding a performance hovering with your head out of the cockpit and watching your controls

    awesome helicopter, thought the cowansim 500e would be great for xplane but you cant really simulate stuff like that for now saldy. but great video and great job, he is doing! would love to see more videos of him

    Here’s some US lineman lingo for all the wrongly identified stuff from a Us power line pilot.
    The top wire is in fact a ground wire. The cup is called an insulator bell. Chain thing is a 2 1/2 ton chain hoist. The holding device is called a grip or wire grip. The tan suit the lineman wears is a Fairaday suit which is nomex and steel mesh to protect from static electric charge.
    The MD-500E is a non hydraulic controls machine. Rolls-Royce C-20B orR engine

    Powerline flying isn’t for everyone because if you’re distracted by something on your mind and not thinking the way you should well it’s better to not fly at all

    That's an E model. I flew a 500 C model for tuna boats. There are many videos of other pilots on here. If you search tuna boat helicopter you'll find plenty. The D and E models also do not have hydraulics. The trim on the cyclic control some actuators that move the cyclic. It takes a lot of work to move the cyclic around so you use the trim to do it for you.

    3:27 that’s a chain hoist , the top wire is referred to a static wire. The white thing in an insulator. That wires below it are known as conductors which here are probably energized is why they do it with a helicopter so you don’t have to get close with a truck to change it. The bond wire that the lineman moves keeps the helicopter at the same potential as the wire. It will shock you pretty good if you touch the wire without the bond. The poles here are probably 90-125ft tall. I’m a Journeyman Lineman and do helicopter work sometimes. If you have any questions let me know and I’ll try to awnser them.

    This reminds me of the guy I saw going through the ORT toll @ 65mph. He was driving with his knee, eating a bowl of cereal and playing what looked like a game on his cell phone. He looked over at me and did nothing but smile and wink, and sped up.

    2. Asking questions to provide better commentary would’ve been sweet (as you said:)
    3. Commentary could include Providing facts about the 500, and that’s a great way to mix up what you’re talking about. Kind of peppering them in here and there.
    4. Dude keep going! For those of us that can’t make our own CZcams videos!
    Great job. Get those facts. Explain things to the people who don’t fly and maybe who might be living elsewhere in the world.

    He appears to use right pedal when hovering so it's also probably right skid low and the main rotor turning clockwise not anti-clockwise.

      I think its the opposite... But his pedals are off set

      Yes. They seem to have offset pedals. I saw another clip and the checklist requires "pedals neutral" and then the pilot explains that means "right pedal 1 inch forward". ( with anticlockwise rotation of the rotor ).

    That helidriver's a pro for sure, but I was thinking more of the line worker sitting there doing his thing, and at the same time contending with that fourblade downwash!

    (Edit: When visiting Helitrans @TRD/Vaernes some years back, they had a beautiful Maroon Red, MD 369/500 E at their base.)

    Would love to hear the tech explain what he's doing....
    Is the pilot fighting that cyclic a lot? How come there's so much movement when the helicopter is hovering? It doesn't appear to be very windy at the location.

      No hydraulics in the MD-500. It's all done with an electric trim (the coolie hat switch on the cyclic), thus there'S much more feedback from the main rotor back into the controls. Still awesome (and precise!) to fly

    I noticed he had quite a bit of right pedal in on the ground but then I noticed he had the pedals staggered, 3rd hole on the left and 4th hole on the right? I wonder if this is for comfort being in a hover all the time because his feet were aligned most of the time, but due the pedal adjustment he has left pedal in for the hover

      Precisely for that reason, requires lot of left pedal for this kind of work (high power demand) and stretching your leg the whole time gets kinda old (and rather imprecise) very fast
