      As for the speed - it’s not quite as simple as turbine engine making the helicopter faster , but certainly turbine engines have a much better power to weight ratio, so the helicopters usually can go slightly quicker , but other aerodynamic factors , such as blade design, skids and airframe shape and size influence the top speed.

    so when you Bank it do you use your rotary pedals or is it pitch and throttle?

    • @ABHelicopters
      @ABHelicopters  Před 2 lety +1

      The pedals are used to control the direction you face when hovering , and to keep the helicopter flying ‘in trim’ - ie the direction of flight , at higher speeds. The stick between your legs controls the roll (side to side ) and pitch (nose up and down ) of the helicopter . The throttle we don’t need to adjust in normal flight as a hydro mechanical governor adjusts the fuel flow automatically

      @ABHelicopters  Před 3 lety

      Hi Tim, thanks for the comment- unfortunately the audio is about a second and a half out of sync - (forward) of the video - what happens next is a forward movement of the cyclic - nose down - unloading of the rotor disk - which is avoided in a R44 ( or any teetering rotor head
      ) in fact the R44 has a note on the cyclic - ‘Low G pushovers prohibited’.
