Before I saw this, I theorized that the Breen were a semi-gelatinous species that needed cold temperatures to maintain a solid, bipedal form. I also thought that the Breen’s true nature should remain a mystery.
Not suprising. The entire series was a let down and totally unwatchable. Whatever I feel I need to know about this series I watch here so I don't waste my time.
I liked the original concept for the Breen. Made up of multiple humanoid species living in an egalitarian society with little to no physical differences.
The Breen were better when we didn't know what they looked like. It made them mysterious and interesting. Now we see some green cgi goo face. And their helmets now look like they stole them from the Dead Space franchise. The old ones looked better even though some people say they look like that helmet that Princess Leia used for her disguise at the beginning of Star Wars Return of the Jedi. I also like the Breen speaking in their language even if it sounds like some distorted noises.
So disco writers watch ds9 thought to be one of the high points of trek for inspiration and think "hey what do the breen look like? Yeh that'd be cool" followed by "what were they saying? Can we give them some really drsb dialogue'
As much as I like the whole malleable skin-thing they've got going, it would've been better if they had wolf-like heads or something. Y'know, something that would've explained the snouts they had in ds9.
I absolutely hate that generic alien look the breen guy has as a solid. It's so overdone and allows no facial expressions. It's also basically the same mask as the new klingons and the villain in JJ Shitbrams 3d movie.
The fact that the breen are not spectacular actually makes more sense. People speculated that there must be some weird reasons why they always covered their faces but simpler explanations are more likely to be true than complicated ones. It's not as exciting but ...in general, this is true.
I'm a huge Deus Ex fan, and normally Elias Toufexis's voice acting is on point......but when he's trying to be emotional/urgent, he just sound so......flat 😂😂 Then again, I suppose his gruff voice has only ever required him to talk quietly, his acting range is rather limited. 3:29 just sounds so half assed and lazy, as if he doesn't really care about the words he's saying. I ended up laughing when this moment happened in the episode.
@@richardgadberry8398 Mind he was at least partly joking, mostly to shit all over how awful that episode was. Still a better theory than just ruining the mystery like this did. Hell the Novelverse at least had an interesting idea that was better than this (that the Breen are actually not all 'Breen' but instead all wear the same thing (at least in their military) to remove superficial aspects from them (and actual Breen were a race of bipedal snow wolves or a similar cold-environment preferring species)).
@@richardgadberry8398 I liked it as well, as it fit what we knew (that the Breen homeworld was temperate) and why the Breen would even want to wear cold suits. Plus of course the bit about the Breen Confederacy enforcing such a 'standardization' on others.

Why why why! The Breen were so cool being dangerous and mysterious. They have never taken the helmets off the Breen. Like they should never reveal where Yoda people are from. Discovery keeps discovering ways to ruin Star Trek 🤬🤬 it should have been cancel 2 seasons ago!
Disappointingly the Breen should never be shown that made them mysteriously dangerously unpredictable but now, like all other species, they are normal and predictable. 😭😭😭😭
They're not, actually. Though in the (non-canon) Typhon Pact novels, where the Breen are depicted as a multi-species Confederacy, one of the species is wolf-like. It looks like Discovery opted to go with the way they were described in one of the old RPG books though, being gelatinous/liquid beings. Honestly though, I kinda wish they made the Typhon Pact incarnation canon. The multi-species idea was neat.
Why do the Breen act like normal humans? They don’t seem mysterious or enigmatic at all, just typical humanoid-alien bad guys.
A 25 year mystery that no one wanted solved has been solved.
I wanted it solved, it just wasn't that impressive.

At least now we know why they sided with the Founders, and why the Female Changeling had an unusual amount of respect for their species.

Really take away the mystery of the breen when you just go and slap a stander humanoid alien look to them and take off the voice filters they use
Why Is everyone so mad at this I wanted to see there faces I wonder what they looked like
Because there's nothing interesting about their faces, the stories people had in their heads were better than what the "writers" actually made.

Welp. there goes SF Debris's theory of the Breen.
