- Sleep trackers can offer some really helpful insights into your overall sleep health and sleep quality. But the sheer AMOUNT of data in the trackers and apps can be incredibly overwhelming. Heart rate, sleep stages, HRV, awakenings, sleep onset... what does it all mean?
Sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus cuts through the noise and tells you the THREE data points you should be paying the most attention to. He also offers his thoughts on the overall accuracy of sleep trackers, and the one thing you need to be using alongside any good tracker.

exercising during the day, sauna at night, no eating and drinking 2 hours before go to bed were great for me
Exercising and pistachios are also good for sleep, the most important thing for sleeping is to relax the nerves.
Thank you
I read that a wearable fitness tracker is just a great way to monitor your daily steps but, it can also be a smart way to learn about your sleep. Wearable sleep-tracking technology has become a popular and convenient way to audit and understand sleep habits and even resolve unique sleep-related issues. Thanks for the informative video Dr. Michael!❤👍
Thanks for your support of my work!
Could you possibly rate the sleep trackers for us? I have the Fitbit Versa 4.
I've had 3 sleep studies. I don't believe they are accurate because, just try to sleep with all that equipment on you. The first time it didn't even work because I never fell sleep at all that night. The second night they gave me Ambien an tested from there. I forget why a third time.
That is all taken into account. If it was positive , then those are the results.
@@TheSleepDoctor It was many years ago but my results were something like: I stop breathing for one second every 57 seconds.
Thank you Dr! Are you able to discuss in the future which sleep trackers you recommend? I’ve been using the Fitbit for ten years and LOVE the sleep cycles but have been considering the Apple Watch but have heard that the sleep cycles aren’t included?
They are on my Apple Watch 8. I use a different app to the Apple one. It works great.
I use the OURA ring. I like it best
I have been using Fitbit for 7 years, and loved the sleep programs, and used them constantly. They were so helpful, but they were recently removed. I'm now also considering an Apple watch, though there are tons of very cheap trackers on Amazon.
Is it.possible that you can give us insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the different sleep trackers? Is rhe fitbit algorithm good, better, best, etc... What about the ring, what about apple watch?
I use the OURA, its the most accurate
Are they helpful or do they turn you into a neurotic person who is constantly thinking about sleep. This past summer I went through a terrible time with a family members illness and I couldn't sleep. I became obsessed about sleep and sleep hygiene but my sleep didn't improve. Once I stopped obsessing about sleep I started to sleep better and although I still am not sleeping great I feel that stopping worrying about my sleep constantly really does help.
Orthosomnia is a real thing.
❤
I would love to know what is the best ones... Like oura ring or the new Samsung ring coming out..
Personally I use the OURA Ring
omg i wake up after 4 hours of sleep every night for the past 13 years :((( and cant fall back to sleep 1-2 hours later then if i sleep wake up after 2-3 hours.. i guess i have blood sugar issue but im so dead that i cant even make healthy meal to avoid that from happening.. even magnesium glycine is not helping me and when i take it after i wake up or even before it kicks in maybe 2 hours later :(
so i have suffered like this and missed out my best years since i were 23 years old :( and now 38 :((( jesus and no one has helped me :((
dr can you help me before i end up on the street ???
i cant work properly and wanna study otherwise going to die in my dead end job :((
Try get a meal prep service that will do the dietry stuff for you, and if sugars a problem, look at getting a keto diet. Obviously exercise is going to help too. Also try avoid caffiene/sugars/stimulants/screen time anywhere within 3 hours of sleep. Also vitamin D3 helps sleep, at least 10000iu's, best with K2, i tend to use D3&K2 on overcast days, but only because i spent a lot of time out in direct sun, most ppl dont, hence the deficiency.
Find a cbti doctor
I have a problem with the accuracy of the full sleep study. Who can sleep normally with 27 electrodes attached to you? Good accurate data requires no influence from the test measurement. Think Heisenberg .
Well they probably relax the patient and take precautions. Also once they're asleep they don't know about the trackers
