      When the lady says "Omo! E be like film!" Omo literally means "child" and here it is used in a similar fashion to how the word Child or Chil" is sometimes used in AAVE. Also the word sabi has its origins in the Latin word saber(Espanol, Portuguese), or savoir(Fr) which means to know and probably seeped into local lingo through coastal trade between Portuguese and Africans. It was common in old Jamaican Patois to use "sabi", but is not much used nowadays at all.

      For it to have meaning you cannot use ‘una’(you). Use ‘I’ (I).
      It should be ‘shift abeg, make I see road’ = Please get out of the way so I can see.
      To perfectly get it right, it should be said with rudeness and attitude 😄😄
      It’s literally a way of telling someone to bug off.
      Here’s what you’d said, ‘Please get out of the way so you can see’. 🤨
      ‘Una’ means ‘You’(plural).
      Singular ‘You’ is the same as in English ‘You’. But the plural of ‘You’ in pidgin is ‘Una’

    Her pidgins are just normal regular and general Nigerian Pidgin.
    But it varies in different part of the country, like we have normal pidgin which she’s speaking and we have WARRI,BENIN, PH pidgin. that’s the south south (Niger delta) part of Nigeria their pidgin are more unique and full of slangs.

    Nigeria pidgin English is lit.❤❤❤

  • @uchennanwosu4625
    @uchennanwosu4625 Před 9 měsíci +2

    Pidgin is a soup-mix of English, French, Portuguese, and our indigenous words. The foreigners took Africans from one region as guides to other regions. Sierra Leone was one of their administrative bases in the west African subregion, so Nigerian Pidgin mostly originated from there. However, pidgin also has West Indian and Brazilian influences. Some slaves returned with their own lexicon and expression. Nigerian pidgin has some French or francophone vocabulary and expression. For example, when we want to say something is plentiful, we say "E boku" which is from the French word Beaucoup. In pidgin, "dey" is used a lot. E dey pain me. It is hurting me. "dey" originates from the French preposition "de" the English "of". The speakers of pidgin are not necessarily aware of these linkages. Pidgin is a language of its own that continues to evolve. Many of our native language words and expressions have found their way into the vocabulary. Pidgin also has dialects. The Lagos pidgin is the most universal. The Benin and Warri or Delta axis is distinct, as is the Sierra Leonian. Someone from other parts of Nigeria may not be able to comprehend the Warri pidgin in its full expression. Pidgin shows that language is merely about communication. Sit down in pidgin is "sidon". If I want to tell someone to sit down in a particular place, I will say, "Make u sidon for here." The use of "make u" is a non-English grammatical structure being used along with improperly spelled English words. It seems more like French or Spanish structure. It may be Yoruba or Igbo structure. I know Igbo grammar is closer to French and Spanish than English. Pidgin and Ebonics are both West African expression in my opinion. They express a never-ending creativity.

    the word "Sabi" is a portuguese word for Know or kmowledge. The Portugese were our first colonial masters before they were pushed out by the British. Lagos is actually a Portugese region which exists today in Portugal. The early portuguese who landed claimed that the coastline resembled that of Lagos and named our Lagos after theirs.
