Alex Vasquez omg that is actually like my life goal to own a cat rescue!!! I currently work at a cats only boarding kennel and I love it. I also pet sit on the side with rover. My whole life my parents have pushed me away from working with animals because they would always say “there’s no money in it”. Since following my passion I have been so much happier. I was super depressed before. Bottom line is to follow your dreams.

Just for anyone in the comments that is interested in having a career in animal care - i'm currently studying Animal Care and about to start my HNC level. I advise to definitely study at college depending on what level of animal care you want to reach (vet nurse, surgeon etc). Also try and find some volunteering with animals so you can get the hands on experience you need. I volunteer at the PDSA as a Veterinary Assistant.
I also advise to never ever listen to people who say you can't reach the goals you put out for yourself. If you want something bad enough you will get it!

Its really very good to see this vedio. When she is saying about the careers I myself felt that it was me who have a confusion on animal career. I am revanth iam Indian . I have done degree in pharmacy for about 4yrs without interest due some family situations and force. Now I want to change my life . I seriously love to work with animals a lot heartily I want my passion to be a profession where I can work with satisfaction. Please kindly suggest me whether I can do directly masters in zoology or vet or vet tech ? As I have done degree in pharma I want to change so am I eligible to do my studies in masters in abroad. An please suggest me the country where the scope for animals is good. Iam ready to work in any drastic conditions with animals such a love I share with them. I will be waiting for reply

Oh em. Just a few days ago I was looking up jobs for me to get into with animals. I'm only 13, but now I know I can volunteer, or help out in places with animal. I believe my biggest obstacle will be my shyness. I'm pretty sure I have social anxiety, so getting out there, and talking to people about jobs or volunteering at such a young age is going to be immensely difficult for me, but I know I'll be my happiest working with animals. You've really inspired me with this video, and shown me there's more than one way to reach a destination. I'm lucky enough to afford University, so that will really help me. To see that you made it, without University/college, and without knowing what you wanted until you tried many things, is so eye-opening. I really really needed this, and I am so so grateful for you, this video, and your new series of animal careers. You've really opened my eyes, and inspired me. I can't even begin to imagine what would have happened if your cancer diagnosis came back positive. Thank you Em. Your story really touched my heart, and inspired my future. I can't wait to see what careers are out there!

Etta Jurima Etta - animals are great for helping people with anxiety. They fill us with calm and confidence :) I have a very particular strain of anxiety which is hardly ever heard of, and animals help so much. I barely get affected at all anymore. I've always loved animals. From when I was a little girl I said that I wanted to be a veterinarian, my family agreed to it because they knew that I loved animals more than anything. My brother and I have a very bad inmune system, the moment he was four he became allergic to cats, it didn't matter to me that much because that only meant we couldn't have cats anymore, that didn't discourage me. We kept getting dogs and other animals, it made me happy to have them near me. On 2015 I went to Miami to visit my aunt, we went to a pet shop on day and I fell in love with a cat that put on adoption, I begged my parents for me to take it home and I got their approval with the condition that she will be outside. I named her Tinker. My inmune system got worse and I started to become allergic to new things: first was milk, then soy, after a month or so I started to become allergic to dogs that esas the most heartbroken moment in my life. At that time I had a dog called Mimi she was 6 years old and we had to take her outside with tinker. They got together pretty well and Mimi became like a mom to Tinker. My parents were worried about my health so they send me to New York to a friend of them for a year so he could se if there was anything to be done. I came back after a year without solution and I was received with the surprise that I couldn't even be in the same room as my pets, it had worsen a lot in a single year, they looked at me as if they were asking me why I wasn't visiting them anymore and why I sentenced them to be on that backyard alone. Mimi died a year after because of heart failure. I asked my mom if I could be with her in her last moments and she agreed to it. She died in my hands. Tinker is still here but she is more independent and doesn't suffer that much. Right now my mom and de service maid are the only people who can visit her and I have gotten worse and worse to the point that I'm allergic to everything that you can think of. I have deserted my dreams of being a veterinarian for obvious reasons and now I'm aspiring to be an artist because aside from pets I always loved painting. In your video you said that you had fur allergies. Did you find a way to overcome them? I cannot be a veterinarian anymore but I still want to be able to own dogs if you did please reply to my comment🙇🏽🙇🏽🙇🏽🙇🏽

Are you allergic to known hypoallergenic dog and cat breeds ? Hypoallergenic cats are more difficult to find and are usually very expensive but I'd bet that many hypoallergenic dogs are in need of foster care in many places, js ! Hey Em ❤️ I absolutely adore animals, just like you, and have worked as an animal attendant at multiple businesses, such as at a dog hotel, feeding farm animals (for theme parks) and worked at 2 pet stores. I've left all of those jobs because, although the pay was amazing, they didn't treat the animals right, often leaving them with incorrect care, and I didn't want to support their methods of animal keeping.
I'm very skeptical about working with companies dealing with animals now, and I wish that I could own my own business/es like you do, and hopefully one day I do!
I really appreciate the video, it opened up my eyes to the limitless possibilities of careers about working with animals, and I support you every step of the way so that you keep doing what you do, it's inspired me and most definitely many others.

Hi Em! I know I am very late (and you will most likely not see this) but if you di, i just want to thank you for all you've dine and all you do! I have always loved animals, and your videos truly inspire me to follow my dreams! I want to be a marine biologist, studying mainly ocean life (reefs and sharks) and I get so much negativity. People always tell me that i wont be able to do it or that I wont get a job because there already are so many people working in the field. Ever since i started watching your videos i have gotten more and more confident that i can do it and i will do it! I just want to thank you so much for being such an inspiration to me and all others who seek comfort through your videos! Whenever i feel down or just feel like giving up one thing or another, you're always here and cheering me on! (Although not actually just me) so thank you, thank you for being an inspiration and a help for people like me who has almost lost their faith in themselves.

I had changed my major a few times until I ultimately dropped all of my major courses and signed up for the entry level veterinary assistant courses for a certificate. I have always loved animals, and I wanted to be a vet when i was a child, but that dream was put on a shelf when everyone around me tried to get me into a well paying career. I was in my second year in college when I hit a point where I didn't even feel like I was in control of my life, and ultimately fell into depression. I discovered that I always looked back into a career in animals every time I felt lost.
I finally decided to follow that childhood dream, and pursue a career in the veterinary industry.
If anyone of you read the entire thing just a little word of advice: as soon as you begin to doubt your choices, that feeling will only grow and weigh you down. Take some time, relax, and review what you believe will make you happy. As cheesy as this may sound, you should all follow your heart.

Hi Em! As usual, your video is awesome. But here's my story.
I'm a 14 year old girl. Since I started to walk my love for animals has been huge. Especially cats. Everyone in my surroundings have always told me "Freja, you're going to be a vet one day!". And I've always thought that was my destiny. But now in high school it's different. You need really high grades, and I have high grades but I don't think I want to keep up that much for the gymnasium (kinda like mini college). I'm not passionated about physics.
So. There is photography too! I love photography! And I've always told everyone since I started high school that "I'm going to be a photographer!". But when I've seen your videos is realize that there is more jobs out there than just vets.
In a small town in Sweden there is not that much jobs for me with animals as I wish it was. But I really hope to maybe open a photo place where I can photograph animals etc.
I will keep on searching and hoping to find something one day. I can't wait for your video about jobs!! I can start summer working next year. I'll maybe find something then. Thanks for the time and effort you put in your videos. I love you and your channel.

The last part of this video meant so much to me! I have pretty bad anxiety and I ended up missing exams for 2 out of my 6 subjects and so I couldn't apply for any of the conventional routes. I ended up working at a zoo for a couple of months while studying to take the exams privately so I could apply for a school and things just got worse and worse from there because of physical illnesses that impacted my mental health. And now 5 months later I'm studying to be a dog trainer and have 9 tanks in my house AHAHA. It's the happiest I've ever been really. Hey em, I'm going into my final year of high school and this video really opened my eyes. When thinking about what I want to do in the future, people always say that in the end it doesn't matter what course you take at uni because you will probably change your mind and it's ok if you do. But there is still such pressure to make a decision even if no one is trying to make me feel that way, because I don't want to finish school and be kind of drifting through until I find something I love which could take who knows how long. Hearing about you going to school for acting because you were told you didn't have the grades for being a vet, but ended up working with animals anyway gives me some comfort that even if I choose the wrong course, it'll be ok. I am also very indecisive and constantly changing my mind. I don't know wether I want to do fashion design or working with animals. I made a decision to drop all science classes a year ago, because I hated them, and all the animal courses seem to be very science based. But I still want to work with animals. I am conflicted because I want a clear path ahead of me, but both my current options are very different and I fear that if I go towards one too much it will close the door to the other one. Sorry that was a bit of a ramble, but anyway I am looking forward to your new series, im sure it will help me a lot :)

I just graduated high school and have wanted to work with animals since I was a little kid. I had so many people tell me how I would be an amazing vet as well, and then I was told that I wasn't smart enough and my grades weren't high enough even though I put all my energy into it. I'm not going to college or university next year because I don't see the point for what I want to do. Nobody can teach you how to be passionate or a hard worker and there isn't really a straight path for animal care work. So I won't lie I'm a little lost at the moment, and there is so much pressure from people around me saying I have to go to school if I want to be successful. Im really struggling to find a job that I am passionate about. Its hard to walk on the thin line of making money while enjoying it. Too many people live to work and dont actually like their work (all that much). And I refuse to have work bethe centre of my life AND not like my job. Its hard not to lose hope.
Can you do a storytime of your time as a zookeeper? Im really curious to see/hear about zoos from an insider perspective.
An hour away for me is a zoo called Wilhelma. (germany) . Its horrible. The animals are technically looked after, but they are just beating hearts and working organs. The polar bear sat there like his soul had already left him. staring blankly into nothing. The huuuge birds didnt have room to actually fly, just space to hop from branch to branch. The elephants had nothing interesting for them in their enclosure. I had to leave after 30 minutes or so because I couldnt take it. I was heartbroken.

Believe me I know how expensive pets are (especially when your parents don't like animals 😫) you could try volunteering at a nearby pet shop or animal shelter, walking dogs for a bit of money is also a decent option. Lots of pet shops have notice boards for posters of lost and found pets and things, ask an employee if you can put up a poster advertising your dog walking or pet sitting services. 🙂

Even if the job involves animals, it is still business-based and therefore, some of the tasks makes me stand against my own integrity... Like you, I value my integrity a lot, and working for people makes me really mad as I may have to compromise my values and integrity while working for them... I do plan to be a veterinarian, and not just that, I also really want to take a role in CZcams to educate people about animals. This is why your channel stands out to me so much, and you are truly so inspirational! I really hope you know that!! I really hope you will be giving us access to send you fan mails soon because I really want to thank you personally with a handwritten card to let you know how thankful I am to come across your channel! Anyways, so sorry this is super cheesy, but keep up the good work and continue following your passion to work with animals and educating more people!
