I got a Turfmaster 6 Months ago in the workshop twice in last 5 Months I reckon I’ve got a lemon I haven’t used a Scag before need a big reliable mower for my business
In my opinion... The results are inconclusive... The Toro clippings were thrown on the Scag stripes.. and vice versa...furthermore I would have picked a better quality lawn to do a stripe test on.
Testing aside, it's pretty obvious the Toro out does Scag in clean cut department. Just watch the first cut, both mowers. Idk about you but i only want to have enough time to run over lawns once. That's why i use Toro
I would assume that is Fescue and cutting at 3 1/4 first off is way to short and you will not get a very good stripe cutting it that short, I cut all my lawns at its max recommended height at 4in it makes a better stripe and hides more of the blemishes in the lawn and keeps the lawn greener longer depending on who waters so being able to see which one stripes better I would cut at a higher length
Go with the turo..I did and changed the blades first thing..It cuts like a beast..only prob is the thing sounds like a shot gun going off every now and then when you turn it off....Argggg !
I'm a SCAG guy myself, the SCAG seem to cut better than the Toro it seem to have better suction & more discharge ,but the Toro did leave a cleaner first impression & greener look to the lawn. SCAG seem to suck up more crap & debris out of the roots of the lawn and throw it all over the lawn .With that being said I think the Toro we give you the cleanest look in the shortest amount of time, but the SCAG seem to cut better .hopefully this makes any sense
Now i know what to buy next (toro). My debate was between these two mowers but when i saw your vid and did some research, i didnt like scag for the fact that it is allot heavier than the toro. Thanks for uploadimg this video helped allot.
They are both sweet mowers. I’ve never owned a stand-on or zero turn. I definitely prefer the stand ons. Im starting to pick up some large lots and can now justify getting one. I am leaning towards the Toro. What is the price comparison with these? I would probably go with the cheaper since they both have a very nice cut in my opinion
A fair test as you left stock blades on both. The scag's higher lift pulled up old clipping from previous mows. I'd like to see a test on a better lawn that can be cut 4 inches. That will show stripes. Thanks!
Brothers Lawn Care both blades are sharpened before this video. The toro blades honestly were still not as good as the scag blades cause it's a demo and the blades were so bad nicked I couldn't get even close to getting them out
I'm partial to the VRide since I have one. I've never cut Bermuda that low. I go down to 3.5-3.75. I demoed a grandstand last year and thought the scag blew it out of the water.
I have a scag swz wall behind, thinking about buying a toro proline walk behind. And eventually a grand stand. What’s your thoughts on toro. I used to be a scag man but toro been growing on me.
Larry Brandon II I don’t regret my decision to switch. I loved my grandstand so much that When I bought my z master I never demod one or cut with one. I just called and told them what I wanted and get it ready I’m on my way.
6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. The Scag side did have more brown clippings left on top. But that could be the high lift blades vs standard blades. I would compare mechanics on both before I made a final decision. I don't think you'd go wrong with either one. Good luck.
not all mower decks cut heights are the same either. know a friend that owns a toro zero turn and a john deere zero turn..the toro 4 inch cut height cuts the grass shorter than the john deere does set at the same height. then he noticed that the spindles and height of them and how the deck is made, makes the difference on how they set up the deck height lever to adjust.
I can tell the difference of the disbursement. I would be curious to see the difference on a lawn that isn't so long. I actually think the Scag cuts nicer and left better stripes...but when the grass is so long (like in this video), it covers up the stripes. In all your earlier videos using the Scag, it always left nice clear stripes. I'm a Wright guy, so i'm impartial to either toro or scag. Having used them both, i suppose it would be left up to personal preference. They are both good machines. Great vid!
We have the scag, exmark and toro. Scag is just a superior machine. Our 7 crews have requested us to only purchase scag in the future. We use the machines 6 hours every day non stop on apartment communities.
it's all about technique, you can stripe with anything (lawn roller, brooom) the scag having higher lift blades is suckling up more clippings from previous cuts
Not comparing apples and oranges, IMO. They are both commercial machine built to cut grass and do just that. Most will be compared out of brand loyalty, price point, and dealer availability. I believe they have the same 22HP Kawi, but whens the last time both blades were sharpened?
Toro equipment is awesome. I wouldn’t be opposed to owning a scag, but I’m just so familiar with toro and I trust toro. Our toro equipment at work (golf course) have thousands of hours on each machine. Our big 4500 has 12000 hours on it.
Toro for sure, the grass was dispersed much better and the grass clippings were not blocking the stripes. With the scag you would have to go over the clippings once or twice more I think, but not so much with the toro. Hope this helps!
It appears to me that the Scag is picking more of the last cuts clippings than the Toro and spraying the debris on to the next stripe.Either way they both are bad ass mowers!
I Like your "SCAG" but Yes, "TORO" has a Better cut Quality on it, Just in the first Pass I saw that the "TORO" cut better than the "SCAG" and less clippings..... Interesting .....
id honestly like to get the multiforce, its a better tool overall. if you have to power rake you can just use the brush attachment and do a good job thats super fast, plus winter plowing. i wouldnt judge either mower for a one time demo as each mower really needs dialed in to your conditions baffles and blade types make all the difference. both are solid mowers imo. from the video the toro did better in this situation
Either would be an improvement for me, the overall cut quality of the Toro looks better to me and the bad part is it could be better. You have the same size engine on it a 52 as the 48 Scag so what the cut would look like with a larger engine and some high lifts on it
I'm an Exmark/Toro guy so I will always prefer a toro over a scag. Ran a 60in grandstand for 3 years, no stripe kit on it and it left amazing stripes. I do believe we did run high lifts and gator blades on it as well.
Keegan M toro bought out exmark. toro then took exmark designs and way they built them and used them for the toro mowers. and took toro's designs to make exmarks with. exmarks were better built before toro bought them. dont buy the toro zero turn that has the steering wheel on them...too many problems with them. my dad bought one of them steering wheel zero turn and park brake locks up in it and bunch other stuff been happening to where his mower been in the shop 3 times this week already.
8:50 😂 i feel you, brother...being an onlooker, i was like "don't do it! ....ahh, he's doing it", but as an operator, i've done it a coupla times, double cutting on a good set of stripes on a sunny day 😂 it happens. and it may not have been a factor, but that last stripe on the first scag go round, kicked up alot of old grass clippings, dirtying up the pattern. eh, i know they both make great mowers, & the comparison is appreciated, especially when the only opportunity you had was such an overcast day. are you pulling the toro trigger, then?
Looks brown where the Scag was mowing. That means thatch and could mean that the Scag has more suction because of better blades and is pulling that thatch up where the Toro is not.. if that is the case Id take the Scag because of the better blades...just saying
Toro looks cleaner, probably pulling up more thatch with the high lifts on the Scag. I use a Toro mower andam happy with it. Our zero turn is an Exmark. (basically Toro) We have been happy with th results.
brother I like the toro. but also the scag is old. but the toro did very well with the stripe kit. get the high lifts for it and it should do much better. winner winner chicken dinner
Toro is a better machine but the scag isnt a slouch. The reason I say this, you can throw a Recycler kt on that toro and get both striping and next to zero clippings on he surface. Side discharging is NOT mulching. It technically "keeps the clippings on the lawn" but it is not the same thing and does cause more problems then true mulching. Toro has always cut better for me than scag, ferris, and most wrights, but wrights have really come up to the "next level" recently. I exclude Exmark because Toro is the parent company and they've been about the same, sans the Recycler kit. Toro has mulching kits down to near perfection.
Yeah anybody els thanks this guy should be a sells man only one problem he would sell his self out to competition was not a far compression at all let me trun my carma off wait just a sec......he's got to be payed by scage toro has the better cut but you have to cut sortable grass
Payed by scag? Lol. I sold the scag and bought the grandstand a week after this video. The grandstand was demo unit I was trying to show ppl how it cut and dispersed the clippings better than the scag in this video. Apparently I didn’t do a good job at it. Grandstand is a way better mower than the scag.
You should compare 48 with a 48 ? Thats like shooting a bottle with a 22 cal and the bottle just has a small hole in it? And then shoot at the same bottle with a 12 gauge shot gun and the bottle is destroyed? They are different use the same cut size and same blades on each mower and then see what it looks like.
o yea scag has the best striping has nothing to see with the grass clippings like other peoples commented I used exmark for 10 years and now I have my self a scag just because of price but gravely is good too so rather have a scag or an exmark but not toro!
The scag has more wheel marks toro less. Better cut with toro... Scag for rough cutting= Tank. Toro for fine cut.....Stay safe out there and make MONEY!
That's a hard call Danny. If the toro has a striper then I'm not that impressed but all and all about the same. I bet the toro is way more comfortable!!
This has got to be the worst comparison/review video i have ever seen on youtube. The grass is short as hell to begin with so you cant even see a cut done . you blew clippings all over the other sides. Not to mention the camera quality is that of a fisherprice flip phone
Danny, it looked like the scag side had a lot more thatch on its side. The side the toro was on didn't appear to have as think of thatch. You should have ran the toro over the scag side, just to see if there was a real difference! Any way, excellent video. Thanks
Im my 40,000 personally mowed lawns to date, nothing cuts better than a toro with a mulch kit. Side discharge to side discharge they're all pretty similar. I prefer the toro controls and smoothness over the rest of the hydro's especially the stand on units. Sure some mow at 11/12 mph...when are you ever mowing that fast? Your clip rate at that speed is terrible.
I have 3 of the toro 52in grandstands they are the best mowers we have ever used and we have tried about everything
Looked like more old clippings on the Scag side when you made your passes.
Toro all the way man, nothing like a TORO!
toro def my brother hands down
I love watching sharp blades at work
Go with the turo..I did and changed the blades first thing..It cuts like a beast..only prob is the thing sounds like a shot gun going off every now and then when you turn it off....Argggg !
I'm a SCAG guy myself, the SCAG seem to cut better than the Toro it seem to have better suction & more discharge ,but the Toro did leave a cleaner first impression & greener look to the lawn. Alfonso Aya love my toros still.
👍💯
Second pass you blew toro clippings all over the scag side. You kept the scag clippings on the scag side.
Will Robinson very true
Yep , that is what I thought too ! Scag , hands down in my opinion. Results were just skewed do to blowing clippings all over the skag stripes.
That's what I saw to.
Scag all day every day!!
Will Robinson toro is better
They are both sweet mowers. I’ve never owned a stand-on or zero turn. I definitely prefer the stand ons. Im starting to pick up some large lots and can now justify getting one. I am leaning towards the Toro. What is the price comparison with these? I would probably go with the cheaper since they both have a very nice cut in my opinion
I think it is going to come down to if you like the red or orange color
cant tell any diferance at all lol
A fair test as you left stock blades on both. The scag's higher lift pulled up old clipping from previous mows. I'd like to see a test on a better lawn that can be cut 4 inches. That will show stripes. Thanks!
Question ! How old are the scag blades vs toro
My 100% honest opinion is I love my toro and I believe it cuts better than the scag and disperses the grass clippings better as well.
Lanier Lawn Care I’m making the switch soon!
Larry Brandon II I don’t regret my decision to switch. I loved my grandstand so much that When I bought my z master I never demod one or cut with one. I just called and told them what I wanted and get it ready I’m on my way.
Lanier Lawn Care sweet!! I add stripe lots to my mowers using a mining belt I recommend it! It’s like a thick converter belt they use in coal mines
I'm just curious if the blades on the Scag where high lift and maybe drew up some of the old thatch.
Toro looked nicer in this demo.
To me the toro cuts better the clippings on the scag looks like the grass is Skint
you can see more brown clipping with the scag side where as the toro side it disperse the clipping better and blend in
6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. The Scag side did have more brown clippings left on top. But that could be the high lift blades vs standard blades. I would compare mechanics on both before I made a final decision. I don't think you'd go wrong with either one. Good luck.

south county yard Maintenance likes the toro
I would go with the toro
I use a toro mower a awd
Nice video I'm leaning towards the Toro

I like the toro
Toro all day long. Clean and prestine cut quality.
good video and mowers! what where the songs in this video?
it's all about technique, you can stripe with anything (lawn roller, brooom) the scag having higher lift blades is suckling up more clippings from previous cuts

It does in my opinion also.
If you put high lift blades on the Toro it may be a beast man.. only one way to find out.....
i would go w toro. good vid

awesome got i love that scag v ride
the scag win in my book
Should have had same blades on both to compare
NIPP in garden Service why? Both are the standard blades for each mower
for the Toro and Exmark I prefer gator blades
unfair comparison. Put a striping kit on the scag then compare
yep
It appears to me that the Scag is picking more of the last cuts clippings than the Toro and spraying the debris on to the next stripe.Either way they both are bad ass mowers!
I Like your "SCAG" but Yes, "TORO" has a Better cut Quality on it, Just in the first Pass I saw that the "TORO" cut better than the "SCAG" and less clippings..... Interesting .....
Just My Opinion,
Looks Like A Lot More Clover On The Scag Side!!
id honestly like to get the multiforce, its a better tool overall. if you have to power rake you can just use the brush attachment and do a good job thats super fast, plus winter plowing.
i wouldnt judge either mower for a one time demo as each mower really needs dialed in to your conditions baffles and blade types make all the difference. both are solid mowers imo. from the video the toro did better in this situation

What price can you get a old grandstand I'm 16 years of age. If should I walk behind
I'm an Exmark/Toro guy so I will always prefer a toro over a scag. Ran a 60in grandstand for 3 years, no stripe kit on it and it left amazing stripes. I do believe we did run high lifts and gator blades on it as well.

Toro has always been known for a good cut push mower or anything else just saying
Cut quality toro over Scag
Toro cuts way better I've owned 3 scag and 1 Toro I have a vride2 now and hate it
8:50 😂 i feel you, brother...being an onlooker, i was like "don't do it! ....ahh, he's doing it", but as an operator, i've done it a coupla times, double cutting on a good set of stripes on a sunny day 😂 it happens.

But which one more fast ??

Toro for sure. It did a better job on the first pass. Less double cutting = more profit.
Who's got the better service? Otherwise, not much difference.
1. You’re not double striping so you really cant tell. 2. You don’t have stripe kits. 3. Thats an old scag versus a new toro.
Wow, been waiting to see that!
Good job, keep up the good work man
brother I like the toro. but also the scag is old. but the toro did very well with the stripe kit. get the high lifts for it and it should do much better. winner winner chicken dinner
the scag is only 1 yr. old. But I know what your saying about it not being brand new like the toro is.
I run scag 52 " with the mulch kit stripes way better too is not built for longvity.
How many gallons of gas does the Scag V Ride use.
How many standers do you have
Is that the new toro stripe kit orrris it a checkmate?
King Max that's the new toro stripe kit
what the name of the strip kit on the toro?
Toro all day. My buddy has an Exmark 60 and constantly complains how my proline walk behind is so much cleaner better cut than his new zero turn.
it looked like the scag did better stripe til the last one
jacob swyka i agree w you but i choose a toro. that stand on is really good and doesn't make that much of a mess
i love my wright stander zk...61 inch
Toro is a better machine but the scag isnt a slouch. The reason I say this, you can throw a Recycler kt on that toro and get both striping and next to zero clippings on he surface.

I exclude Exmark because Toro is the parent company and they've been about the same, sans the Recycler kit. Toro has mulching kits down to near perfection.
Think the Toro cut better but the Scag sounds better when running.
Whats the song in the video here 3:00
was it taller on the scag side????
jacob swyka no same height on both sides
I honestly like the toro stripe more
toro looks cleaner.. less clippings on top.. both cut good.. and stripe ;)
Yeah if u added that striper since your last demo there's not much difference!
Yeah anybody els thanks this guy should be a sells man only one problem he would sell his self out to competition was not a far compression at all let me trun my carma off wait just a sec......he's got to be payed by scage toro has the better cut but you have to cut sortable grass

I know scags are built to last, but theyre so damn heavy! Imagine how much worse the rutting would be with the scag
Toro all the way
You should compare 48 with a 48 ? Thats like shooting a bottle with a 22 cal and the bottle just has a small hole in it? And then shoot at the same bottle with a 12 gauge shot gun and the bottle is destroyed? They are different use the same cut size and same blades on each mower and then see what it looks like.
John Bailey that difference in deck size is like a .17 to a .22 or a .380 to a 9mm
I'm voting Toro
o yea scag has the best striping has nothing to see with the grass clippings like other peoples commented I used exmark for 10 years and now I have my self a scag just because of price but gravely is good too so rather have a scag or an exmark but not toro!
Scag all, all, all the way I've the 36 stand on,and the tiger cat 52 watch out😁 you're going to start a grown folk argument.
The toro striper works. Not as well as i think it should though, especially for dragging on the ground. The toro is Defiantly way more comfortable
yes finally
This has got to be the worst comparison/review video i have ever seen on youtube. The grass is short as hell to begin with so you cant even see a cut done . you blew clippings all over the other sides. Not to mention the camera quality is that of a fisherprice flip phone
you need some gator blades and block that shute off then you will do quality cuts trust me dude ! and Bad Boy mowers are the best !!!!!!
still preferred the snapper
Danny, it looked like the scag side had a lot more thatch on its side. The side the toro was on didn't appear to have as think of thatch. You should have ran the toro over the scag side, just to see if there was a real difference! Any way, excellent video. Thanks
Stripping looks better when you mow higher. Toro junk
Looks like to me the scag needs new blades
Toro is better in my opinion cutting and stripes
Im my 40,000 personally mowed lawns to date, nothing cuts better than a toro with a mulch kit. Side discharge to side discharge they're all pretty similar. I prefer the toro controls and smoothness over the rest of the hydro's especially the stand on units. Sure some mow at 11/12 mph...when are you ever mowing that fast? Your clip rate at that speed is terrible.
Toro
The only way to scientifically solve this problem is going by....... Eenie meenie miney Moe.😉
Scag
