- This loaded sweet potato casserole has it all. It’s gorgeous, has a perfect texture, and is the most delicious sweet potato casserole I’ve ever made. With bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, tangy sour cream, and green onions, this has everything you’d load onto a potato, but is made with nutritious, vibrant orange-fleshed sweet potatoes. Enjoy!

(seriously the lobster wenberg is THE best thing I've ever eaten. not "made," EATEN."

“When your bacon looks foamy, it’s almost done homie”. That’s scientific evidence I can trust!
One of the things I love about you is how deeply and thoroughly you love food, and not just the taste, but everything about the whole process. Very few others would have taken the time to admire and point out the beautiful color of the potatoes.
Nice observation, it also made me happy!! :)
Amen!
I came across a recipe for masoor dal where the chef mentioned loving the color of the dish. We've made it with both white and orange yams and the orange really do give it a more intense color. Makes the dish feel a bit more cozy, which is good for a stew.
It's nice to find people who take the time to appreciate that kind of thing
What a great observation. I think you’ve helped me understand why I dig this guy so much!
This was indeed the best sweet potato casserole ever in the universe. My friends were so impressed that they want the recipe, which I will share. One friend said that doesn't like sweet potatoes at all, but couldn't help trying this dish because of all the raptures from other attendees at our get-together. She loved them. The pound of bacon I'm sure was the biggest draw but the whole thing was amazing. Thanks so much for this genius recipe.
OMG Chef John has a scratched teflon pan! He IS one of us.
Chef John is our constant in an ever-changing world
My daughter made your exact Mongolian Meatloaf
Was divine ❤
I never liked sweet potatoes until,I used them in savory dishes. Sour cream on a baked sweet potato is the best!
I would eat this as a main with a side salad. Might make next week when I meal prep
Oh yeah, this looks very well suited for meal prep! Thanks for the idea! :)
I routinely type "LOL" but honestly, it's a lie. I extremely rarely laugh out loud. However - "When your bacon looks foamy, it's almost done, homie" got me good. LOL FOR REALS
Brilliant twist on sweet potatoes can't wait to make this!!!! Yummmmm!!!👍
Looks delicious and a great twist on the standard sweet potato casserole. Can't wait to try it! Thanks Chef John!
literally just bought a giant bag of fresh sweet taters and didn't know what to do with them. I'm making this tonight!
Masoor Dal is also pretty good if you like red lentils. I don't know if chef John has posted a recipe for it but if he hasn't, I nominate it for the list of eventual videos!
I'm going to make this next week & if add a pinch of basil as I do to my sweet potato casserole s. 👌🏽😍
How was it??
Looks great chef!
I will “give this a try soon”
I made this tonight and it was incredible...thanks Chef John!
Definitely going to try this one. Thanks.
I absolutely love orange sweet potatoes! This looks amazing.
You are making my Thanksgiving dinner list. Keep ‘em coming!
Update 11/12
I made this tonight (I'm on 2nd meat detail for Tgvng). It is delicious! Even my mother, who has a perma sweet tooth loved it. I sent my aunt this video, she's putting it on her dinner menu for Thanksgiving.
I've made about a dozen of Chef John's recipes, they ALL have been hits!
Just made this exactly to the recipe, when I took my first bite I literally said out loud “Wow, wow, wow!” I love this channel! 😊
Thanks for helping me eat good! You are my cooking guy! You are the best!
Made this today for a big family Thanksgiving dinner. BIG hit! Thank you, Chef John, for making me a food hero.
You are my favorite teacher Chef John! I've learned so much from you over the years. Thank you!
I agree Chef John, I've never heard anyone say "That's too much bacon" 🥓🤣😂 I made this casserole last night and we loved it, It's definitely one I'll go back to time and time again, such a hearty meal. Perfect for fall/winter. The cheddar and bacon topping is so delicious ☺🧀🥓🧡
Made it, it's amazing! Thanks again for another wonderful recipe!
That looks delicious! 😋 I can hardly wait to try it. Thank you, Chef John. 👨🍳 Your recipes are always a winner. Walk in beauty.
Like a walk in freezer?
@@TeddScheckler Is that beauty to you? To the Indigenous Tribes People, that is a blessing that we bestow to people.
thanks Chef John, it looks great.
Never thought of trying this before - thanks for the recipe. I love making mashed sweet potatoes and serving them with country peppered gravy with a fried ham dinner.
Chef John, I made this today for Thanksgiving. The only change I made was I cooked the bacon in the oven with brown sugar sprinkled on. It was incredible.
Perfect timing for thanksgiving
Everything you make looks so delicious. 🙂
Yes! It will be joining the other side dishes on Thanksgiving. Thank you🌸V
OMG. I’m headed to the store for some bacon and red sweet potatoes. Oh yes, this is happening at my place. You continue to impress, Chef Jon!
I'm adding this to my Thanksgiving menu for sure!
Fantastic. Had this tonight with a roast chicken and some Brussels sprouts. The casserole made the meal seem like a Thanksgiving feast. Wonderful flavour. Thank you Chef!!!
Your Caddyshack reference did not go unnoticed. Kudos to you!
I’ve always made mashed sweet potatoes with smoked paprika, chipotle chili powder, jalapeño ranch, and cheddar cheese. I’m going to try this (but with my usual additions) for the ultimate sweet potatoes. (Both my husband and father-in-law hate sweetened sweet potatoes, so this will be a huge hit!)
I HAVE to make this! It's like all my favorite things all in one dish.
I love that you pointed out the color. That is one of my favorite things about cooking. In an most definitely making this and i know i will "ennjooyy" ( in my best chef John choice)
Can't wait to try this!
OMG this looks SO good.
On the menu for this next week! Thank you!!
Total YUM + Drool !!!
Thanks Chef J !
I made this. It was really really good. Thanks chef.
I have a ton of sweet potatoes and needed some more ideas. Thank you.
Looks delicious 😊
That looks excellent.
Simply butter on a baked sweet potato is delicious. I'm still not over it after the last bite!
I have never had sweet potato casserole. I definitely have to try this loaded version.
Chef John, you are the bomb.. I love how we can see your reflection on the counter top and you are, indeed, eating all those forkfuls. I am a big YAM fan, and this is on my menu tonight!
Wow! That looks amazing!
OMG - I had to stop three times to wipe the drool dripping down my chin after watching this video! You are a naughty, naughty man. Thanks a million for this one, Chef John! 😋
Making this for Monday night to go with a pork rib roast at my friend’s house. Just fried the bacon. Can’t wait! Thanks!
Bravo Chef!❤
Yesssss!!!! Finally something savory with a sweet potato!!! No cinnamon etc!!!
Yum the freaking yum! I love your recipes!
Since I really dislike sweet potatoes, I would totally do this with regular potatoes. ❤
Sweet potatoes aren't really potatoes.
Made it today it's a KEEPER!! Yum!
that looks amazing!
I am trying this!
I made a chocolate gingerbread yesterday and decided to throw in a few sweet potatoes just to have on hand but had no plan for them. Now I do! Thanks so much; this is happening tonight.
The poet laureate of food.
Yummo! Thanks Chef John!
I love the caddyshack reference towards the end.
Hi Chef,
It’s taken me almost 10 years to write, Chef. (Watching on the telly is not conducive to making CZcams comments).
First video I saw was yonks ago about a no-knead bread.
Second was a pizza.
I followed advice I already knew and didn’t burn the roof of my mouth!
I thought you were a rather annoying American man at the time.
But times change, as do herbs with an ‘H’ in the garden with time, or thyme, and I can now in a succinct way say, I think you’re brilliant and I enjoy your weekly posts.
I rarely follow exact instructions as, as you know, cooking is a lot about improvisation, unless it’s choux pastry.
You’re obviously aware of the discrepancies in the language of America and the language of England, though you have made some good points over the years!
Points from this end:
Erbs is pronounced Herbs because there’s an ‘H” at the beginning, like Hoover (Dam or nasty man).
Origano is too close to origami (I live in Japan). It’s Ori-ga-no.
There is no “oooo” in aluminium.
Tomato tomato potato potato! No comment apart from never try to order a tomato juice on United Airlines with an English accent. After 3 attempts I had to say Toe-may-toe juice, with some spice. Nit wits.
As for potatoes, just call them spuds. Very English but very recognizable with an “s’ in recognizable.
The Haggis is actually a bird with one leg shorter than the other. They run around hillsides going nowhere up or down.
I’ve made an attempt at Haggis in Japan. Not bad at all if you can ge hold of some “lights”.You should try too.
It’s offal, oats, and spices at the end of the day and very tasty with your American sausage.
French Fries. Are they still stupidly called Freedom Fries in some parts there?
Chips. As in Fish and chips. Nobody says fish and fries, or do they?
And therein lies another confusion!
Chips are spuds cut into lengths and then deep-fried. Crisps come in a packet from shops; Crisps are chips in the land of the free, with some very bizarre "flavours".
Anyway, apologies for taking so long to actually write and say I love your ideas.
Cheers
8 years ago, first recipe I viewed (and cooked) was the beef jerky! Still going strong I see, this casserole is sensational!
Omg. I found your channel by accident and I think I’m in love. 😂
And this dish is so perfect looking, I’m gonna try to make it to go with Christmas dinner I’m making for my family.
Ps. My mother recently passed….so I’m making dinner for my brothers this year and was looking for interesting dishes to make that weren’t too complicated….AND hopefully find a chef to show me how to make it without boring me to death or adding ingredients I’ve either never used or can’t buy. 😂
So thx!
I love your channel! I’m hooked and now I’m watching all your vids!
Thanks from Delaware!
(Wish me luck! 😫)
This reminds me of your twice baked sweet potato recipe! That has got to be my biggest annual hit everyone asks me to make over and over again
This looks amazing!! Going to make this as a side for Thanksgiving dinner
Oh I have to make this! Yum!!
Every year on turkey day, we cook a ton of food from scratch. I always make my famous garlic mashed potatoes, and then try one additional potato wild card. I think this might be the way to go!
Loved it!
Too many people focus on the sweet side of sweet potatoes. I love that you’re showing a recipe showing their use in a savory dish.
Made it tonight. Even the family member who hates sweet potatoes had two helpings! Delicious!
Dear Chef John. This looks delicious. Perfect for this chilly fall weather. I really have a feeling comfort food will finally make a comeback this holiday season.
I'm not huge on sweet potatoes and I'm seriously thinking about making this today.
Looks aaammooozing!
I am going to make this, but I will switch the bacon for tempeh. Great recipe. More please.
Looks delicious!!!✌
Looks awesome 😃
oooooooo, I might bring this for Friendsgiving!!
I just love the way you talk, from the lilting to the passion and the casual conversation of each of the steps
Thank you so much! I needed this valuable information! I came to your video and much needed information. This is God's answer for me! Thank you, thank you.
"Some very interesting recent made-up studies" oh, Chef John, this is one reason why I love your videos. And that's not made-up!
Sweet potatoes are delicious no matter how they are prepared. I've never made the loaded , Always the cinnamon and such. I'll try this it sounds wonderful and so good for you. Thanks much
Very delicious to have with dressing
I love to tell my wife “if the bacon looks foamy , you’re almost done homie”… she doesn’t love it as much
Awesome thanks
7:34 I love "recent made-up studies"! They always help me too when i find myself in an discussion where i am running out of arguments :)
I need to try this asap
I love how you're not from the south, but still call them sweet "puh-tay-tuhs" 😊❤
now if we could just get him to say "puh-khan" correctly
@independenceltd Yes! But I actually say it like someone else posted...p'kahn! 😄 I get it from my Mom (or Mama as my truly southern husband says) and my Mawmaw. And you know any family matriarch called Mawmaw has some deep southern good cookin' roots!
I just made this. My first recipe from You. It's good. I don't like sweet potatos. I do like this.
I find that a tasty accompaniment to sweet potato is ... potato! Russet or any other white spud cooked and mashed to perfection. I serve it in the ying yang style and it's both eye and taste bud appealing!
It’s been added to the list!
Take those same four sweet potatoes, tender, and add baked beans seasonings, but no beans: bacon, maple sugar or brown sugar, hot espresso, about half a cup of pure butter, lots of onion, a little apple cider vinegar (to make up for the absence of tomato catsup), brown mustard, modest addition of the pure version of liquid smoke, Tabasco sauce, freshly ground black pepper, a bit of caraway seeds. Chef John, your version of loaded sweet potatoes has inspired my version of cherished sweet potatoes. Love to try both versions.
I think that this would go nicely with a smoked brisket. Thanks:)
I would make this as a main dish. No need to wait for Thanksgiving.
Ngl, I was totally going to skip this recipe until I made myself watch it and about halfway through I was glad I did.
Starting bacon or anything fatty in a cold pan allows the water to render out first and you get less splattering and popping.
First time here, you are hilarious.
Give me more!
I've never really thought of going in a savory direction with sweet potatoes. Always been a butter, cinnamon and brown sugar/maple syrup kind of guy.
This gives me pause to consider a new sweet/savory experience.
“When your bacon looks foamy, it’s almost done homie” 😂
