In this video, you learn how to convert an ordinary paper airplane into a small, FPV remote-controlled (RC) aircraft for fun outdoor flights.
The plane consists of a paper airplane folded from an A4 sheet of paper with a custom 3D printed plastic airframe which holds all of the electronics that make it fly. Onboard, is a XIAO ESP32S3 Sense development board camera utilized as the plane's First-Person-View (FPV) camera that streams video through it's Access Point network to a web browser control panel through which you operate the plane. 2 micro coreless motors at the rear take the signal based on variable speed control inputs on the ground to either make the plane fly forward, left, or right while maintaining ability to vary the descent or ascent of the plane.
Other details I may have missed mentioning that are important factors of making the plane fly:
1). Total plane's weight (with battery) - 25 grams
2). Camera and motors' total current consumption - 1.6A
3). Plane's thrust with coreless motors - 21 grams

👍 for making popsicle alternative and including template 💪
you have snuck in way to many ads and promos into this video, which takes away from an otherwise interesting clip.
I'm 83 years and what I have to say is WOW WOW WOW.
I much appreciate your kind remarks 😊
This is mind blowing!!! 🤯😮 I can’t even begin to understand how you got all the electronics the right weight and everything! It seems super hard to make the small parts! Very well done!👍
Thank you for your kind remarks! ❤
I don’t usually like CZcams videos but I liked this one. I think the simplicity quickness and style of your videos is the right combo. Good stuff man.

Max you fulfilled our childhood wish by converting paper plane into real working rc plane.
Cool thing about this plane is flying speed is very fast as compared to its size,
Like fighter plane.
Yes, very fun to watch fly indeed. Thank you, Jonu!
Dude this is awesome! Make it use ESP-NOW and you can increase the range limit to almost 300 meters. But it requires 2 esp boards
Hey! Thank you. Will look into ESP-NOW in the coming future for potential project upgrades. Cheers
Thanks for the credits
And Nice project 👍
Thanks to you with your code, this was also possible! Cheers.

Nice man very simple
Thanks 👍
Amazing, more videos esplane!
super brilliant!! 🙌😃
Thank you! Cheers, mate!
@@MaxImagination no problem 😊
Cool idea. Your video made me want to make something similar, but with a tinywhoop FC with an onboard receiver and VTX. Since the board would also have a 4in1 ESC, you could run two small outrunner brushless motors. Also if I redesigned the frame, all of the components could be screwed in place instead of glued in place for easier replacement, as both the FC and brusheless motors have small screw holes.
Thanks for your comment. Glad to hear you got inspired!
You are a genius my friend
However I'm not Einstein, I appreciate your kind remark!
great work, well done !
Thank you! Cheers!
First like and comment sir
this is......
THIS IS AMAZING
I appreciate it, G!
I love my little ts101 hell yeah
would be fun to see some sorta auto stabilization controller on this, with a lil gyroscope and accelerometer
Great video bro👍 really enjoyed it!!
Can u make a howerboard or howerbicycle?
Thanks! I have thought of something similar, perhaps an electric scooter. Will think about it 😊
Nice project ... dreams really come true
Thanks for your support 😁
Keep on teaching Us!
Always! Thanks for your donation. It really helps the channel 😀
man that's really awesome, i wonder of it would work with an actual rc receiver and (probably analog) fpv system
Thank you! I'm sure it would as long as the weight is kept the same (25g) or lower.
Great content ,i loved that you can make it without 3d printer .
Thank you! Cheers!
Keep making Such wonderful videos. I like your videos so much. Full support from me.
Thanks a ton! Will keep going strong 😃👍
Excellent project and showcasing of talent! I think you could fit in a few more ads though.
Thanks for your comment! Will keep that in mind 😀
Nice video! I am going to make one myself!
Go for it! Cheers.
what website or url do i go to for the planes motor and view the cam? or does it automatically open when i connect to the esp32's network? Thanks!@@MaxImagination
This is so awesome
Glad you think so! Cheers.
great projekt thx for the video.
Thanks for watching! Cheers.
It is really wonderful 👍
Thank you! If you enjoyed watching the video, please consider subscribing. Cheers!
perfect :)
“Wing flaps” perfect paper aeronautics terminology - elevons is what they actually are. The most impressive achievement here is that the paper airframe handles the weight of all that tech 😮
"Wing flaps", yup, you now know I'm not an aeronautics engineer. However, studying it!
Yeah, the paper doesn't fold mid-flight despite the weight onboard due to the type of folding that went into the paper airplane to give it sturdiness.
Please make a brushed Wi-Fi drone with xiao ESP32 camera module.
Love you from India ❤❤.
Will consider that for a future video. Cheers!
Thanks 👍
No problem 👍
смшно ) молодец! оченьтяжелый. батка слишком большая. тяги думаю слишком дофига. моторы тоже слишком. либо уменьшать электроникку либо увеличиватьпланер. ну и управление смешное конечно.
мужик. респект!
great thanks, 👍
No problem 👍
Sheesh I like you're new haircut man
Thanks 😉
I feel like I just watched a Disney video. Interesting plane, and some fine assembly work.
Thanks for your kind remarks!
Mom, I found the most learner friendly channel.
Fun i think it would be great example we here in indonesia to try that ?
ESP32 is pretty much help fpv and craft, wanna see more of that ESP32 could to for indonesian stock parts.
Definitely a fun project to try wherever you're from. So many things can be made including other aircraft with this ESP32.
Nice project and good explanation of it all. But if i would redo this project I would use drone electronics with a all in one 5.8g fpv cam. The latency and FPS would be a lot better. Thx anyway for the great video. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Thanks for your comment. Anything can always be done better. I will let others like yourself make improvements as you see fit. Cheers!
This man is fulfilling our childhood dreams. I will encourage everyone to subscribe his channel. I always wanted to see a CZcams channel that makes this types of videos. And I have finally got it. Thanks to you Max.
regards,
Zuhayer
Thank you for showing your gratitude! It means a lot :)
Such a creative and awesome idea!! I can't believe it worked so well!
I think this project gets too technical for me, but at some point I want to try something kind of similar; I want to make wings around one of my FPV drones so that I could fly it like an airplane, and get close to the efficiency of an airplane! thoughts?
Amazing video, Subscribed!
Thank you! Glad you think so!
What you're referring to sounds like it could be a VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft, a plane that's more like a drone. You should check out a few of the DIY builds on CZcams from people who've already made one. Cheers.
Bet, im on it.
totally awesome!! reminds me of the old kickstarter paper plane kit "power-up", just nerdier and awesomer!! :D
i could imagine that the plane would stay up longer when using a slightly larger piece of paper, so theres less weight per wing area.
i also think that the props would be more efficient when flipped around 180°, you just have to cut off the top, or drill the hole all the way through.
and if they spin the wrong direction, you can just use the other props which spin counter clockwise. (i assume you are using the props from the h36 mini drone, right?)
not an expert, but there might also be a way to get some more voltage out of the "ecu", the battery should provide more than 4v when full.
love your work! stay young and wild, my friend!! 🤗
Thank you very much for your kind and constructive comment. I appreciate the feedback! Totally, I have already (as shown in video) mounted the h36 drone props on the way for maximum thrust as you say. Will consider trying out a paper plane with wider wings. Cheers!
Cool I saw a product like this at the store for $60 where you fold your own plane but it didn't have a camera.
Better then a Rc Su-57 ( depending on what you talking about )
Zamn! This cuts like paper.
Unfolding the legends of the thin sheet. Amazing work
But one thing: don't drive coreless brushed motors backwards, it ruins them
Thanks for the tip! Will check the wiring 👍🏻 Cheers.
@@MaxImagination no problem friend, I am working with 8520 motors right now, too 🙂
Awesome!! Just loved it.
One question. What is the total weight of whole plane including battery and electronics.
Thank you!
It weighs a total of 25g with the battery included.
@@MaxImagination thanks 👍
Это есть на кикстартере :) лет семь назад придумано :)
A simple 25mw FPV camera and transmitter would work a thousand times better. I also would have used Lora for communication.
Good idea, I would use that if I do an FPV plane again.
Can you make brushed drone with Arduino flight controller
I have thought of it. Ok. Might make in a future video 👍🏻
@@MaxImagination thank you ❤️
Awesome video! 1 question, why does your 3d print look so bad and stringy? Mine looks nothing like that.
Thanks for your comment. That is due to the humidity accumulated on my filament. However, I fixed the stringing by adjusting retraction settings. All is good now.
Good job. An incredibly fashionable and effective thing in war. All that remains is to add RDX with the explosion initiator. Killing people has never been so easy)
Thank you! With this plane and one of those B's, any neighbor who wants to be my enemy will quickly regret their mistake 😂
Max can you make a workbench tour !
Maybe one day!
Hi! Great thing!
What is the app you are using for 3d design?
Hi! Thank you! I use Autodesk Fusion 360.
cool idea, but for camera i think regural analog AIO FPV systems that cost around 15$ are better because this one you show have low fps and delay, and analog camera have no delay at all and maintain 60fps on NTSC at all time
Thanks. For the ideal RC paper plane, an analog FPV camera would do better, sure.
bro next video we want in tinywhoop fpv drone build please
Will consider that for a future video. Cheers.
@@MaxImagination Max, look for those 2" 2s quads. They're freaking fun and I bet you can create something with them. 😊
They look fun! Might try making something like those or similar in the near future :)
Just for kicks, I wonder if it could be working with ESP32-CAM module.....which I have.
May work! Give it a try and let me know ;)
Niceeeeeeeeeee.
Hi can we just do it with drv8833 motor driver because those smd are not available here will the same circuit be used
Yes, it will work as long as this board has enough pins and can work with 3.3V signals.
Man, I wish there was a hardware kit.
I'm super curious what the delay measured in milliseconds would be from the camera to the display.
Not sure, but could be anywhere from 50-250ms
Bro with out camera it will work or not only using speed studio alone
Yes, it will also work without the camera.
Good work👍.can i make little air plane using esp 32 wroom using this arduino code without camera?
Hey and thanks! The ESP32-WROOM is too heavy. I can only see this working if you make your plane at least 2X bigger.
@@MaxImagination thanks max
First
Which smart hands for soldering are you using?
Sorry, what?
@@MaxImagination Around 5:31, you're using a tool that has four clamps to hold the board. I've seen ones that have two, but not four, was wondering which one it was.
Just out of curiosity, why didn’t you directly wire the motors to the gpio pins?
That would result in burning the microcontroller, so a MOSFET for each was used to drive them.
Never do as you mentioned.
@@MaxImagination Thank You!
Awesome video increase the range bro can you make a robot 🤖
Thank you! Will consider making a robot in the near future.
Which software are you using for 3D design ?
Autodesk Fusion 360
2 cams for stereo
Use super capacitors now
What is the total weight of the plane?
what kind of diode and resistors did you use?
I've just updated the description with links to the diodes and resistors I used - (x2) SMD Resistor (10K) - amzn.to/4aIgaGw & (x2) SMD Diode (SS14) - amzn.to/3vXpvuZ
Hello! It’s working on esp32-cam?
Yes, the code works with the ESP32-CAM. I cannot guarantee a plane like this will fly with a heavier board, but if you're confident you can make it, you may try.
can we make a fpv quadcoptor with it?
If you mean the XIAO ESP32S3 Sense camera, sure why not.
I once made single propeller plane using drone parts
But it wasn't flying as this one
Maybe because of weight I am not sure
If your plane only used one propeller, then how did you manage to steer it?
@@MaxImagination front propeller
