      We do not see those qualities in the big name players in the NFL for the most part. The QBs who get to a Super Bowl like Mahone's, Brady, Drew Brees and even Matthew Stafford have those qualities and Purdy has them in spades! Upbringing has a lot to do with it and all of those mentioned all have that in common The love you see his parents have for him and were the only ones who rooted for him and knew his capabilities and were so proud of him for what he has accomplished so far.

Now he has Kittle/Deebo/McCaffrey/Aiyuk and the best play caller and he can just go out there and play with in the system and distribute to his playmakers. Its why the top 5 power program QB's struggle cuz theyre use to playing at Alabama or OSU then going to the worst team in NFL

  • @justaguy328
    @justaguy328 Před 10 měsíci +210

    Steve makes a point about having to be ahead of things as a QB, and I think this is where the lack of arm strength for Brock Purdy comes into play. He doesn't have a rocket arm, so he has to throw earlier than other QBs, which means he has to process and figure out where to go with the ball faster than other QBs with stronger arms. Brock is just a great quarterback, and in the NFL, I don't want a 'freak athlete' as my quarterback, I just want a good quarterback. I want my QB to preferably be unathletic so he can play for 20 years like Tom Brady. All these other QBs who rely on their athleticism are always dog shit after about a decade when their athleticism declines.

The one he lost he blew his arm out in the NFC championship game against a great Eagles team. He's setting records already. Won his first 6 starts with a 95 QBR 200 yards and 2+ TD in each one. Never been done before. He also hasn't even thrown 5 ints yet. Doesn't get hit a bunch or fumble. Makes pretty good decisions apparently. I think Steve makes a fantastic point about how being incredibly talented can be a double edged sword. Just because you CAN throw the ball 80 yards flat footed doesn't mean you have to. Sometimes a guy will make more mistakes because they have the talent to sometimes make those plays work. The fact that Brock is limited physically in some ways meaning that he isn't even considering taking some of the risks that a josh Allen or a Bret Favre could make. Sure, it's great when you can throw a dot into tight coverage 50 yards through the air. But sometimes you try that and it gets picked. Brock is going to make the smart play. And he's got some wheels, he's got a quick mind!

I had something he saw on me and it was my ability to see the field and get the ball out to the right place at the right time. Again, my talent fell short in other areas but that unique trait I had was enough to get me through Stanford which was pretty cool! First time I saw Brock play I could see what he was up to. The dude obviously studies but he also just has that feel that is hard if not impossible to teach. I’m going to repeat this observation. Aside from all the players surrounding Purdy, Purdy played at Iowa State all four years. Trey Lance is an example of how not playing in college proved his downfall. He’s still developing. This is the big mistake college QBs are making, as well as the NFL, they aren’t ready for the NFL.

      Agreed. The overall number of reps Brock has is a magnitude of reps Trey has. 4 years of HS plus 4 years of college, he's seen it all, loud & quiet games, full & empty stadiums, hostile & friendly crowds, multiple types of coverage, run or pass, etc. Trey is still wet behind the ears. This is all obvious on the field, hence why we are where we are, and they are where they are.

    Steve was 100% right about Allen. He had a 100% for sure, easy throw to a guy wide open underneath for a first down, and he chucked it into double coverage another 15-20 yards down the field. Stupidest play I’ve seen so far this season, and I saw Jimmy throw an interception into the end zone that wasn’t 1/10 as dumb as Allen’s decision making. The Bills would have rolled the Jets after Rogers went down if Brock was their QB making rational decisions. At the very least there would have been 3-4 fewer turnovers.

He possesses the mental acuity that other QBs don't have but most importantly, he is consistent in everything he does on game day and in practice. Excellent commentary everybody wants these QBs to make these spectacular, unbelievable plays all the time and that’s not how you win consistently. You win consistently when your QB EXECUTES the plays that are called first correctly and then efficiently and that’s what Brock does. Josh Allen has all the talent in the world and yet what has it gotten him this far besides getting himself and his team in trouble bc he thinks he can run any defender over or make every throw no matter the situation and a lot of the time it’s gets him and his team in trouble. When you have the talent the 49ers do on defense and especially offense all you need your QB to do is get the ball to his playmakers and every once in a while use some of the athleticism he possesses to buy time or make a run and that’s exactly what Purdy does. He does what’s asked of him through the offense and that’s it he doesn’t play hero ball bc he knows he has superstars all around him. The worst thing the Bills did was let Daball leave I would’ve made him the highest paid OC in the game made him assistant head coach and also I would’ve said listen if Sean doesn’t get the job done in the next year or 2 we’ll promote you to HC.

Especially when so many beat writers said Trey did outplay Sam once preseason started. I think the reality was the Niners knew they wanted Brock, and saw no reason to have an ongoing QB controversy with Trey always in the background. Since Lynch was shopping Trey in February, I think they should have just said they were committed to Brock and told Trey the truth is Feb…NO QB competition, NO let’s see how it goes, NO competition against Darnold…all of that was just them saving face on the optics.
