    Thanks for the video. I have a 2015 Ariens compact 24 that I bought brand new from Home Depot in 2015 and when I had it delivered to my home, I started it and noticed it had the surge problem right from the factory. I had to get Ariens involved where they created a service ticket to have their local repair center pick up the machine and they replaced the entire carburetor with a brand new one under warranty. It was a pain in the ass and looking back I would’ve just spent the $50 for the new carburetor myself and swapped it out and rebuilt or cleaned the original one and kept it for back up or parts. These engines are built in China and they sit for a while with gas in them and the gas went bad. Damned ethanol.

      That definitely sounds like a pain! Yea I can’t stand the ethanol fuels

      @@hester781 I googled “why is ethanol in our fuel” and found an interesting article, explaining every reason why.

      If it still surges, take out idle screw and pilot jet, and drill a size or two bigger. Taryl fixes all has a video on it.

      @@hester781 I use "alkylatgasoline" and it is never any problem and it is made for lawnmower , snowtrower and so on also for thing that can be stored a long time between uses, it is a bit more expensive than ordenary gasoline but is wort it and it is clean too no shit an such in the gas.

    I have an Ariens Deluxe 24 - 921024, 2014 model with the AX-254 engine. I read on another CZcams channel, that its OK to leave the choke on by a notch or two if it helps to maintain the idle. 1) Have you ever heard of doing that? I did get some serious backfiring the first time out... and the second time out, it settled down a bit in the backfiring department, but I still needed to keep the choke on to maintain the idle. I am guilty as charged for not running the engine in the Spring until the gas empties out of the float bowl. Two weeks ago, I put some SEAFOAM in it, to see it that cleans things out a bit. My gasoline probably has ethanol in it, which I know is no good for these engines... but now I need to wait for more snow to see how it runs under load. 2) Loosening off that hose with the spring clip on it, will that drain the entire contents of the tank? I noticed yours in the video did not drain much fuel. Thanks for your help, your video... and hopefully you answer my questions.

      Leaving the choke on a little isn’t necessarily a “bad” thing, and will get you through a storm. However it does mean that the carburetor and jets need to be cleaned or replaced. It’s not recommended as a long term fix because the engine needs a particular air/fuel mixture not only to run properly, but also to run at the right temperature. And there lies the problem. Though the engine may sound fine with the choke on a click, you really have no way of knowing how rich or lean you are burning. Running rich will cause backfiring and can even cause cylinder washout. Running lean for extended periods of time will most definitely lead to engine failure.
      2.) My advice for removing as much fuel from the machine as possible.
      Run the machine till it’s out of gas.
      Loosen the bowl nut on the bottom of the carb to drain what small amount is in there.
      Spray wd40 into the carb and gas tank.

    I like the shop rag on the flexible tool trick for the tank! What are you using for a fluid in the ultrasonic cleaner? Heated or non-heated?

    • @hester781
      @hester781  Před rokem

      I use the gallon cans of Berryman’s carb dip. And it is heated which I think is what makes it work so effectively, 80°C, which is roughly 175°F. She gets hot lol

      Not normally no. And there’s generally no room to add one either.
