Bad ass podcast right there. Love to see other agencies setting the bar when it comes to tactical medical. When we were starting our program I reached out to LASD to see how they ran the program over there. LA have always been pioneers in the tactical landscape. We set our program up a bit differently. Our unit runs around the same number of operations a year 200-250 but our medics are firefighter-medics which go through the SWAT selection, police hiring process, police academy, become dual-certified, armed and then are detached for a year at a time to the unit. We have four teams and each team has a full-time tactical medic. We have 11 operational medics on a rotation-basis. So, four are detached full-time, and the others come for 16 hours of currency a month. They start their first 16hrs of the 24 hr shift at SWAT, and then go back to their respective units at 2300. Many of our tactical medics work on our special operations air rescue helicopter running mainly trauma calls and hoist missions. Stay safe out there brothers.
