  • @PawsitiveSerenitySolutions

    Should be bringing this ride home soon. Made the choice before watching the video because of passed research I did and previous test drive about 2 years back. I was in love with it then, comparing it to my Camero which wasn't ever really my ride I found after buying it. The car is for me on occasion and mostly my 18 year old sons commuter car, one I hope my 15 year old will learn to drive manual transmission on and honestly can't wait to introduce them both to (was a driver's ed instructor and have drove on a race track back in the day.) Feeling pretty proud of myself from a cool moms perspective, knowing how well my boys already drive and how impressed they will be once they drive it themselves. Appreciate the vote of confidence in my choice after refreshing myself on the aspects of the car and the reasoning I had for selecting it out of those used on the lot. 😉

  • @dlg5485
    @dlg5485 Před 4 lety +2

    I just purchased a 2020 WRX and I never considered the GTI because I wanted AWD. The Golf R is the direct competition for the WRX and it's way more expensive. Also, it will put the VW to shame in long term reliability. People always talk about the quality of the VW Golf, but they always start to fall apart after 5 or so years of daily driving. I know because I owned one. That doesn't happen with the WRX, unless you tune the snot out of it. Left stock and well maintained, the WRX will last forever. That said, I do agree that the clutch in the WRX is not very forgiving. I do feel like I have to re-calibrate my left foot every time I get into it.

    • @anthonycrot
      @anthonycrot Před 2 lety +1

      @@caseyjones6741 I own a 2020 WRX and I would say that the main downsides are the clutch grab takes a bit to get used to, louder on the highway compared to other similar cars, a little aggressive suspension for some people. The pros out weigh the cons though. It gets excellent mpg for a sports sedan I get 32 highway, quick, Turbo noises are fun, steering is fun, and excellent in all sorts of weather, pretty good storage space, reliable newer FA engine (people with tunes have driven these for years with no problems). If you are looking for something a little more comfortable and luxury the wrx isn't for you. it's good if you are looking for something quick, fun, good in all the weather, reliable, and with decent storage space.

    after driving several recent examples, I find the shift lever about an 1-1.5 inches to far back and I think it needs to be moved a bit forward in the console. The clutch is a bit weird to, but maybe it has one of those springs that is also present in the BRZ which owners seem to remove for better pedal modulation/feel. I'm sad the base trim does not get heated seats nor are they offered in a package; one has to go Premium/limited trim to get them.

I had an 08 saab 9-3 aero 6 cylinder turbo......which i have to say I also had a 2003 Vector model 9-3 4 cylinder, the "Aero" when their wasnt one yet...hence Vector... anyways you could clearly hear the turbo spooling.....awesome car too.......if i had to rank its obviously wrx, then vector, the v6 aero (Stock couldnt hear Turbo at all......its true. That Vector was the bomb!)

    I've been looking for a new manual car for the passed 2 weeks, to replace a SAAB 93 2.8T. And I would have to say that the WRX 6 Speed was a bit disappointing. It just felt unfinished.
    The list so far is: Accord 2.0, Mustang GT, BMW 435, Jetta 1.4T, Mini Cooper S, Camaro LT2, WRX Premium, Fiat124. I also hit a Jeep Rubicon and Tacoma because I was curious. So far, I think the transmission was the smoothest in the VW and the Honda.
    What's left: Mazda6, Challenger, TBD.
    P.S. I would welcome any other suggestions.
    P.P.S. I was grinning like a 5 year old during the WRX test drive. But I need a practical daily driver.
    Nice video!

    I bought a 2012 WRX new and at 69k miles the motor blew on me. I kept it stock and took care of it, it seems sudden catastrophic engine failure is just common on these cars. $6k for a new short block, seals and so on. Stay away from these cars unless a blown motor just out of warranty is a risk you're willing to take.

    • @npaul4171
      @npaul4171 Před 5 lety

      The WRX is available in a CVT automatic w/ paddle shifters that simulate a traditional automatic's manual shift mode as well as a 6-speed manual. IMO, while the auto is enjoyable, the car is much, much, much better paired with the manual option (it's faster, it sounds better, the experience is more engaging, and your modification options are not going to be limited [there are not many options for building the CVT as of present]). The WRX STI is a manual only. Both cars are all-wheel drive, although their AWD systems do have some inherent differences. Both cars come with summer-only tires, so if it gets freezing where you live, you will need either a second set of winter tires, or to replace the summer tires with all-season ones (however, the car is a hell of a lot more fun on true performance summer tires than they are on all-seasons, and true winter tires vastly outperform all-seasons, so having two sets of wheels/tires is IMO the way to go.)

    How difficult to learn manual on a car like this? Or avoid that and go cvt ?

    • @npaul4171
      @npaul4171 Před 5 lety +2

      These cars are a bit more difficult to learn on than your runofthemill front or rear wheel drive car. That said, it's completely possible to learn on them, and they'll hold up just fine to someone who understands the basic concepts but is in the learning phase. They do have a hill-assist feature, which prevents the car from rolling when on a hill for the several seconds it takes for you to go from stationary to moving. For a newer manual transmission driver, this (and obviously stalling) are generally the biggest concerns, so it's a nice feature to have given it eliminates the apprehension about rolling back into the car behind you (you can disable this feature if you like down the road). It will likely take a little while to get smooth with one of these than it will with say a Honda Civic SI or Subaru BRZ. But you'll get there! It's also a nice little personal win/accomplishment once you do learn, and you've mastered a skill that only like 1 in 10 drivers possess.
      IMO, the car is vastly better with a manual transmission. The CVT is nice, but the manual is faster, more engaging, more mod-friendly, sounds better, and is just a lot more fun overall IMO. This is one of those cars where if you drive both transmission options, it immediately becomes obvious which transmission this platform was envisioned to be at its best with. Also, the clutch and the transmission of the WRX and WRX STI are vastly different experiences IMO (actually, the entire cars are vastly different experiences.)
      Another option is buying a cheap $2,000-ish manual beater car off of Craigslist, use it at as your daily for a few months as you learn to drive stick, and then sell it and buy a WRX/STI.

    Subaru make the next generation of WRX with the rumble again or do not numb the STi. In 2020 I think I will buy my next car, hopefuly a rumbling Subaru. Maybe I would have to buy a used STi. Please think of something else besides the twin-scroll turbo. Riding experience counts. The rumble is part of the Subarus with turbo. Bring it back! Please.

    • @djteako
      @djteako Před 6 lety

      @GuilleSanchez.answers Před 6 lety

      I ended up buying the 2018 STi and I am planning to keep it for a long time, unless the oil prices rise a lot.Taking fuel consumption aside, the car feels way better then the WRX. I'm very happy with my change. I bought it with the performance exhaust to accentuate the rumble. Maybe my wife misses the numbness of the 2.0 engine. The linearity of the response of the EJ engine makes it feel so much more refine. Porsche thinks the 718 is better than the GT4, but sound is part of the driving experience.

    no rear vents or outlets for rear passengers?? that sucks

    • @edwardpeters4700
      @edwardpeters4700 Před 7 lety

      Fair comment. My 2017 WRX also lacks rear vents. It's come up once or twice in the heat of summer when the front passengers are freezing and the rear passengers are finally comfortable. On the plus side the AC does blow cold enough to make up the difference. Hopefully the next generation solves this issue and the hatch can have its day once again.

      I found the AC in my 2018 wrx isn't that great. The A.C. in my 2003 dodge neon is way colder. And on subarus website it said the 2018 wrx has rear vents then when I got the car I noticed there was none.

      Subaru's were more designed for a cooler climate, where A/C is rarely needed.

      Edward Peters strange. I've used my 2016 levorg in 33°c and it doesn't take more than minutes before my kids stop complaining about the heat. Any car will be hot after being in the sun with closed windows. My subaru gets cooled down faster than the other cars I've owned. You could let the car idle for 2-3min before rear seat passengers enters on really warm days. Or roll down all the windows for a couple of minutes.

      yep - blacked out lower grill, new wheels on the luxury spec models and goofy new automatic HVAC system, plus a couple tweaks in the manual transmission. Pain in the butt in traffic but still fun as heck. I've got a 2018, base, full Kicker upgrade with the sub and the STI catback.

      There's more than a couple CZcams videos on the CVT WRX for the '15-17's I don't know about this one but from what I've seen it's not the worst but still it's a WRX most would say (and I would agree) that it should be a manual. There also may be a slight advantage in situations like Autocross where you can keep the revs up (and thus into more boost) compared to a poor gear choice when you don't have time to shift. I have a Subaru with the CVT (not a WRX) and it's decent - it takes getting used to but even with an under powered engine it seems to do fine....
