They would just throw men on the Battlefield. Just imagine being an average citizen who had heard of the horrible way soldiers have died and that they usually only last a few days. One day, you are told you have to join the military to fight there. Just imagine that feeling.
Imagine you suck at lives, everyone hates you including your family, fails at everything with no girl, you wanna kill yourself but afraid of throwed to hell, and suddenly you got volunteer sheets to stay at frontline. How’s happy you’re right now?
Bf1 is really the peak of battlefield so far. The sound design is still unmatched by any other multiplayer game I’ve encountered. The in-depth levelution of things like craters, barbed wire, boards, trees, buildings, destroyed vehicles, fallen behemoths, random weather events, and destructible field emplacements is really perfected. All of the player ragdolls and dirt buildup on weapons and player models really grounds you in the game world. To be honest I’m not sure we’ll ever see another battlefield on par with this, but I like to hope so.
@@tbm_watermelon9316 nah they are definitely not the same game. And while I think BFV had some cool changes with a lot of potential like fortification building, towable field guns, and squad leader bonuses, I don’t think the end product was on par with bf1. The launch maps for BFV were not very good, the new revive system was worse than the original one, and the customization Kind of broke the immersion that you’d expect from a historical battlefield game. I already didn’t like the red dots that were in bf1 but at least they tried to make them aesthetically fitting with the weapons, and after all they were just a simple lense with a dot marking. The red dot/holographic sights in BFV did not fit the period well for me. And the uniform customization was too far as well. In battlefield games the uniforms are generally very quickly identifiable as friend/foe and also distinguishes class. The BfV customization has so many options that do not fit the setting well at all. It’d be cool to have some agency over your uniform, but it should be scaled back to things like pouches, rolled sleeves, bandoliers, patches, helmet netting, etc.
7:08 is the moment the true experience of every soldier had going over the line had and it's truly heart wrenching and terrifying. Just hearing every troop scream ether in pure fear to keep going or in pain from being killed, and even that one soldier crying for his mother as they went over the hill. makes you feel, something you never did seeing them be blown apart and thrown back from the artillery half of all the ones that went foward to fall to the ground and die amongst their enemy's. The screams and sounds never end to be sound wrenching and terrifying to here each time in the ending the british troops on complete pain and fear trying to hold back the germans as most of the germans are all too in the same amount of fear.
Everybody: wow this guy really sells the confusion a soilder would feel during the first world war. Him: actually has no idea what's happening because his HUD is disabled
@@fiqri1999 Actually , there are a couple of HUD systems that can be used by infantry in real life .. they will display the enemy locations , friendly locations , and even it will provide face recognition !! There is a US made one called " The Warrior " ..
WWII was more devastating overall, but WWI was the most brutal combat that has ever happened, and you can tell the developers put effort into making it feel like that. Every scream and shout is an actual player character reacting to the events around them, there's dirt and smoke in the air, shells are raining down constantly, men are getting shredded by shrapnel and machine gun fire while screaming for their mothers. The terrain turns into a full blown no man's land over the course of a full match, and the soldiers get progressively dirtier and more frantic as the battle continues. Once you actually enter a firefight, it's pure chaos, and you can barely tell what's going on half the time from the sheer amount of gunfire and explosions happening around you. This game is very good.
You know, this is how you pay tribute to an event like this, making it fun and immersive, but still reminding the normal player every now and then that they can be beyond happy to only relive this moment through a virtual world, sitting in their homes safely; it is a respectful and well put-together game, made with passion, and it shows. BF1 isn't perfect, of course, but it is a really nice Battlefield game. BF1 is actually one of very few war games that made me really think about it all while playing, the horror it must've been for all these young men, sometimes even younger than me, to be trapped in this unfortunate situation and facing the dread of dying or getting crippled with sometimes little to no effect on the situation, to see their lives thrown away by a few power-hungry leaders... I mean how it all starts out already sets the mood; upon first bootup, you get thrown into a battlefield, you fight and fight and then you're out of bullets and die... But you won't respawn, you see the name of the soldier you played that just died and his date of birth and up to the next one, that too will die sooner or later. I think it's a respect to the real thing that nowadays, a lot of shooters seem to clearly miss, as the newest iteration of the game, BF20-42fps presents; try to sell war as a fun and cool activity for the hip kids that are there for the fun of it and come up with quotes beyond cringe and you'll undoubtly stand there as a fool. CoD or CSGO are a different story, they're more acardy and less serious, they don't have that problem. But a game, that wants to sell war, should potrait war and war is not a pretty thing.
I think tactical fps games like cs:go or rainbow six siege are not about war. You play with special forces and the whole game is on papaer all about strategy, team coordination and of skill. And I think these games give an pretty accurate feeling like bf1 if you have the right circumstances (good teammates, and the enemy is not cheating)
I would take it any day of the week over the fucking steady cam panning at 0 sensitivity looking at every grain of dirt the way people do for official gameplay trailers.
Five hundred miles of Germans Five hundred miles of French And English, Scotch and Irish men All fighting for a trench And when the Trench is taken And many thousands slain, The losers, with more slaughter, Retake the trench again -Edwin Dwight 1918
Its so sad to see how beautifully dark and gritty this game was when war broke out in different areas. It was not the same in BFV, Everything in BFVis too bright and the wars are more "cinematic" rather than slow and foggy like this game was. What a time to be alive.
Juan Pablo Melita even the ones in the reserve trench got traumatized or completely lost minds and ended up losing all bearing that ended up not being able to walk properly just from the constant pounding of the Artillery.
Those stormtroopers at 8:28 yelling in a hoarse panick "ATTACK! SHOOT, SHOOT" and then charging pellmell into a trenchwork firing their smg's like madmen feels almost rehersed, like wow.
I never liked this quote because it takes away the agency of the average people that actually do the killing. humans are just that tribalistic and depraved.
@@macewindu1532 What makes the Battlefield games for me, particularly since BF3, is DICE’s audio design team. You’re not entirely wrong in that a lot, perhaps most, of what you’re hearing in the video is input, in one way or another, from players. I don’t think anything compares to the quality of Battlefield’s ambient sounds, and I think they perfected their craft in BF1. I think the absolute scale of WW1 battlefields necessitates _much_ heavier, oppressive ambient layers. The fact that one can’t tell what’s ambient and what’s player driven without quite a lot of in-game experience, speaks to the incredible talents of DICE’s sound team. Anyway, here’s a really cool interview with some of that team talking about their work on BFV: czcams.com/video/i-6OxRBHG3o/video.html . There’s quite a few interviews on YT about Battlefield going back to BF3. This kind of stuff doesn’t even necessarily interest me, but this video in particular reminded me how damn good they all are. Cheers.
I’ve brushed over this video a few times thinking ‘ah I’ve played bf1, it’s the same with no hud’. But to actually sit through this with headphones on and hearing everything is just wow. I have no words but to tip my hat to the selfless men who gave their lives in those wars.

I love mortars and medics. Mortars get me my kills, medics get me my points and make the defending team seam unkillable as I never switch to my weapon and inject everyone to the point of OD,
One of the things that made Battlefield 1 special was the Atmosphere. The Realism and playerbase is a different topic in itself but the Atmosphere. Every match you play you feel like you're there. In the Trenches fighting for your life. There's no over epic music, just you in a war torn battlefield with a entire different battle each 2 miles away.
This game is so beautiful. Removing the HUD makes it look 10x more horrifying. Watching this made things stick out that I never really paid attention to. Like those air bursting artillery shells and the screaming of the dying. Freakin brutal!
I wish more games would be designed to be played this way, without HUD. Including Battlefield. Yes you can turn off the HUD, but you're at major disadvantage because the game was designed to be played HUD on. Minimap is like 60% of the whole game. But if it wasn't, you could play like this always, seems like graphics leap forward 15 years. Immersion is so much better, looks like real life except the twitchy movements that comes from mouse inputs We don't really think about it, but HUD ruins so much.... but it has become a standard. Such a shame.
@@sergiomendoza251 Yeah, but if the game was designed from the ground up to be without HUD (or very minimal, only appearing for certain actions like checking how many mags you have by a button press) then it would be same for everyone. It could still have fast respawns, shame that it always has to be a slow ass milsim to have minimal HUD. Battlefield is designed to be HUD reliant, but it wouldn't need to
8:00 this string of events feels so real. A enemy running for cover to get shot point blank and fall over dead. The player running around confused to see a body roll into the trench and the player just staring at them for a moment. About twenty seconds later you just hear someone scream “We’re getting torn to pieces!”
@@Hehehehhehehehehehehehhe78 Agreed. WW2 is by far my favorite war/era. If they would’ve made BFV the same way as this, it would’ve been the best FPS ever.
6:17 you walk out the concrete gunfort, comrades are scrambling to defend the line so you move to the left side with a few other comrades, on your left and right you hear comrades firing over the trench and even fire a few shots yourself when suddenly your eyes begin to water and your throat starts to burn, realizing it's gas you instinctively put on your gas mask as a volley of shells hit your position. you look around frantically as shells hit all around you. the only sounds you hear are explosions and screaming. The gas cleared you take your mask off and try to get your bearings only to see all the comrades you used to see scrambling with you have been been killed contorted and made unrecognizable by the volley, you see a lone machine Gunner on your right screaming for a medic but he is quickly silenced by more artillery. as more shells fall around you a friendly tank moves into your trench, you rush over the corpses of fallen comrades and move behind and with the tank as you keep pushing forward... I wanted to write this ordeal out.
7:07 The excitement of all the soldiers screaming *CHARGE!!,* only to be silenced by a mortar shell while a body rolls next to you as all the screaming of excitement stops and become screams of fear, pain and anguish. Only then you realise what exactly you signed up for, except it’s too late to go back now.
Ww1 is so a overlooked war for game designers. I can count on 1 hand the ww1 games I know of. There might be a few more but I am probably unaware of them at this time.
@@darkrider9286 Most soldiers had long clothing on and gloves during the era. Mustard Gas is made up of particles that when land on exposed flesh or inhaled, causes severe burning until death or treated quickly by covering those listed above.

I played 2042 for a few days on PS5 just because it's free and I still came back to this remembering "the good old days". The immersion is so good, add more destruction, even better graphics, new animations, just whatever to make it next-gen, also they should make the announcements be said by the soldiers.. I would pay a full price for this masterpiece again
Oh I hope it will be remembered. Remembered as a lesson for developers on what happens when you alienate your main audience just to pander to a loud minority that'll never play your game anyway.
0:57 Attention to sound detail: You hear a german screaming: "Oh mein Gott!" maybe because of this terrific scene when the airship drops to ground right beside you... Best shooter I've ever played.

6:46 ARTILLERIEEEE the terror and pain in that soldiers voice is just so oppressive and heartbreaking. The sound design and voice acting in this game is outstanding.
Things like that make the game so much better The machine gunner lighting up the advancing enemy, while screaming artillery as the bombs fall right ontop of him, then a tank dives over the lip of the dug out heading straight for the combat while being pelted by a hail of bombs and bullets, absolutely fantastic.
Rob Ctrc Oh ok yh I'm aware of these youtubers and I watch them sometimes, but I don't remember them mentioning a trench warfare mode, they did however mention trench warfare maps coming
When Life Smacks You In The Face we're getting the "Frontlines" game mode in the French DLC which would be the perfect game mode if the French maps have trenches
Make trenches yourself at a flag and defend it. Find the highest points on ground with grass and it will give you a fox hole. Hit each hole twice with explosives for maximum depth and cover. communicate with your squad to do the same. But the more aggressive team wins so that means you need forward trench directly between flags that are covered by friendly flag trenches. Together we can make trenches great again. And nobody better bitch about people using trenches in WW1 game. The goal of a trench is to make the enemy waste ammo on you while in cover after you draw fire while you waste the enemy from a different new position. Trenches=frustrated snipers if you shoot and move rather than standing still and bunching up close to teammates. Keep in mind playing and being more aggressive for the win can and will result in more deaths if not done properly. agreeably control flag caps with your team and keep all your caps and enemy caps on one side of the battlefield. This way everything can be easily defended and you can have fun harvesting kills and shit. Ways to counter trenches are building your own trenches or if you cant build your own trenches use distance or get close using cover to cover and drawing enemy fire for friendlies to shoot at. If you decide to stay back then you stay back and COVER your friendlies with direct and/or suppressive fire to keep the enemies head down/kill them. Machine gun tanks, machine gun mounted vehicles or anything machine gun should stay back with machine Gun classes, BARs, Lewis gunners, Snipers and most bolt actions should stay back and cover friendlies and suppress enemies. the armored pickup with MG should be upfront to scare shit out of enemy. Overwhelm your enemy with targets and make sure everyone is either firing or moving, and taking initiative to get on the front line and not push up alone and lose your team points
I always love these type of matches where you really feel like a soldier, like you really are in no mans land and hopeing you live with every step you take
When this game came out, this video wasn't anything but an incredible showcase of it's visual and audio effects. Now that i'm older, I can't help but cry while watching this video, it just feels so real. War is horrible man.
At 7:30 it looks the prone stormtrooper is rolling and screaming in pain while grabbing his knee. This rounds rogdolls after death looked so good during this match
The crazy thing about these wars was that your life was pure chance. Your strength, skill or bravery really didn't mean a whole lot. The finest soldier the world has ever seen could be killed in a split second merely because he happened to walk under mortar fire, or an enemy just happened to be positioned overlooking his position. Think how many men of upmost quality were killed. How many potential geniuses or legends. How many Mozarts or Davinci's.
Immersion is something dice did amazingly on with this game, no other game captivates that feeling of being in the middle of the chaos like battlefield 1 and they did all of that while still keeping the gameplay fun

Battlefield v is the same but ww2 but I can see what you are saying

Agreed as heck
the eastern front was far more brutal, and so too where many others.
That's what makes Battlefield the best FPS War game of all times
Nothing says immersion like whipping around on 9000 sensitivity
I would take it any day of the week over the fucking steady cam panning at 0 sensitivity looking at every grain of dirt the way people do for official gameplay trailers.

When Life Smacks You In The Face DLC in march

When this game came out, this video wasn't anything but an incredible showcase of it's visual and audio effects. Now that i'm older, I can't help but cry while watching this video, it just feels so real. War is horrible man.
Those screaming soldiers....
giving me some goosebumps.
The way the manlicher operates in bf1...
almost makes me faint.
I know, I’m hard too.
At one point in the video I heard "bloody hell we're getting blown to pieces!"
Much better than the shrill shrieks of the female soldiers.
this is wat war feels like
The comment section:
50% memes
50% people having a PTSD
More like 50% of people saying how real it looks
I prefer this comment section. The comments of this video 4 years ago were nonstop complaints about the black British and German soldiers
At 7:30 it looks the prone stormtrooper is rolling and screaming in pain while grabbing his knee. This rounds rogdolls after death looked so good during this match
Most immersive multiplayer game I’ve ever played, nothing comes close, they just captivated so amazing well.
Agreed

Lol
Hahaha 😂😂
Doorknob i know right?!?
😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol! I died😂😂😂
Thats scary
Yeah, my great grandfather was lucky enough to survive ww1, otherwise I wouldnt be typing this, or would I?
Yeah. So many Einsteins also be killed. And One motherfucking German soldier survived that war. The One created ww1 square.
F
your so right
Immersion is something dice did amazingly on with this game, no other game captivates that feeling of being in the middle of the chaos like battlefield 1 and they did all of that while still keeping the gameplay fun
I don't know why but the body falling into the trench at 8:05 is so immersive to me.
