  • ASICS SUPERBLAST: Does it live up to the hype?
    The Asics Superblast very quickly became the benchmark for which so many running shoes are measured. It’s fairly light and fairly fast and has a mammoth stack height, but does it live up to the hype?

      Agree! I'm on my second pair. They do break in a bit after about 20K or so but they feel great out of the box to me. The ride is wonderful - distributing very low impact on hips/knees/back. I am 78kg and ran a half marathon PR in them. I have heard that they seem to perform better for runners on the heavier end of the spectrum. My Dad is 85kg and runs great in these. They are high stack but also very stable and the sole's are quite grippy / great traction which was not mentioned here. Also overall foot support is good for this type of super shoe. If you want to feel like you're running in clouds, these aren't the shoe for you. But if you wanna feel minimal impact along with speed, lightness & great grip then these are a great shoe. Run true to size, not too narrow either which I appreciate as a runner with slightly wider feet.

    I recently got a pair on the same color you have after looking nonstop for availability. I was blown away by how easy and fun it makes long (10+ miles) runs, especially marathon training. There are bouncier and faster shoes out there, but none have the consistency that the superblast has for long runs (to me at least).

    I like these shoes so much that I bought a second pair. They are hard to find and sell out pretty fast when they're restocked. I wore these to prepare for my first marathon and liked them so much that I wore them on race day. They're comfortable and have good energy return despite not having a carbon plate. Besides the awful availability, the uppers are hard to get mud out of. However, I think they're a great shoe for long runs, picking up the tempo, and for race day.

      @@its_Matt_B_ that's my thoughts on it as well. I do some of my training in this paired with the Asics Magic 3 speed and Asics Metaspeed Edge+. Got the Asics Metaspeed Paris for race day. I'm excited about the releases of the New Balance Trainer V3 in August. The Superblast definitely can't compare to a trainer like that but for those 8:15 pace days I'll run in the Superblast all day long. It's worth the $200. I got probably 180 miles on mine

Mine still look brand new with very little wear on the outsole. Hope V2 is as good and comes out soon!!!! Asics gives a good discount for healthcare workers so I got mine for $160, a steal!!! the only draw back i have found on this shoe and asics shoes in general is traction in wet weather. Neither this or the Novablast 4 inspire confidence on slick road conditions. But yes daily trainers and super trainers should be more like the superblast if they are not plated. There is no reason the Puma Velocity 3, Pegasus 41, Ghost 16 etc should be as bulky and weigh as much as they do with little energy return. the problem is honestly most runners just go into their running store they get directed to the generic running shoe and they think that is the way it is.

    • @its_Matt_B_

I only have 20 miles on it though, so hopefully it will soften up. I purchased it in Tokyo this year during a spring break trip, so with conversion it was $130. I would not pay $200 for it though.

    I have mixed feelings about the Superblast. I have a 120 km on these now. It is certainly a max cushioned shoe that is very stable and provides plenty of protection without the typical weight associated with such a shoe. It is a great daily trainer for me. Surprisingly, as you mentioned in your review, it wasn't as soft as I had expected. Also, I had to go 1 full size down to get a proper fit compared to the size I usually wear with New Balance, Brooks and Saucony shoes. The couple of things I didn't like were: 1) even after going 1 size down, I couldn't get a proper lockdown on my heal, and there seems to be quite a bit of slippage there unless I wear super thick socks; 2) although its a light shoe, it feels quite bulky on your feet similar to something like the Hoka Bondi 8, but without the weight. It appears as though they (unnecessarily) widened the sole for stability in order to balance the stack height.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Před měsícem

      I understand those mixed feelings about this shoe. It sounds like the worst part for you is the loose heel. A poor fit makes it a bit of a pain to run in! Also yes, it is a big shoe! I'm excited to see what changes they make with version 2 next month!.
