Thank you for the nice topic. Can you please list the reasons why the prices of these medicines are so high? Are they registered in the FDA? And who covers the treatment cost, patient, insurance company or government?

Hi Leen AK! Those are some good questions, but would need lots of research and a small book sized explanation to do the answers any justice.
In short, prices can be high because pharmaceutical companies need to cover the R&D (research and development) costs for medicine that can be somewhat of a niche. The raw materials for the medicine can be hard to find and expensive to source and develop. Another explanation could be that they make a loss on the one medicine and balance that out by setting high prices for others. It could also be that there is a monopoly and that they simply are hungry for money; the type of companies we like to call "pharma cowboys".
According to our knowledge, all but the #2 most expensive drug in this video, Glybera, were FDA approve. As for the Glybera, the producing company didn't get FDA approval and gave up on the clinical trials that were necessary to obtain FDA approval.
About the costs....this is entirely dependent on the country of residence of the patient, of the insurance plan they have and more factors.
