NBC Ends Megyn Kelly’s ‘TODAY’ Show Run

- Megyn Kelly’s ‘Today’ show run is over, and it appears her days at NBC are numbered. It’s been just two years since she left Fox News to join the network, and it’s been a bumpy road the whole way down. The final straw came this week, when Kelly questioned why wearing blackface for Halloween is considered racist. And despite an emotional apology, the network decided to axe the embattled daytime talk show.
On this week’s edition of Beat the Press, Emily Rooney was joined by Dan Kennedy of Northeastern University, Callie Crossley of WGBH News, Jon Keller of WBZ News and former NECN anchor Mike Nikitas.
Megyn Kelly is awful but seriously this was simply an excuse for NBC to fire her from the Today show because of her show's low ratings. These comments she made weren't the worst thing she's ever said or even "racist". These comments may have been politically incorrect and not a "proper" thing to say in public but certainly not a fireable offense. NBC sucks and always has! Kelly's salary was outrageously high and NBC should have given Kelly an opportunity to discuss her comments further as a learning experience.
The others could mention "Nazi" and "Anne Frank" and they weren't "insensitive" and yet Kelly's simple comments were just amplifies the idea that to mention anything about races (good or bad) in our nation comes out of people trying to get someone fired just so the "race card" can be played.
I am a dark skin hispanic woman and to be honest i really didn't feel offended because she mentioned both races white and black, she did not specify only one. I think she should be educated about that comment, give an apology and move on. I don't like her at all because she is too tough, but i dont think that incident was that bad to fired her. Maybe i am wrong but i think everybody deserves a second opportunity. Even though she has a second opportunity on Fox with Santa and Jesus. But apparently NBC don't play that. 😣

Lloyd Johnson Most likely more about her poor ratings. But the history of ‘Blackface’ in American society is very ugly & painful. So it is worth learning about it first before saying its nothing.
You obviously don't know history, oh, i forgot- they changed the books so it wouldn't reflect how bad people of color was treated, and you wouldn't care about it one way or another anyway, do some research before you start spouting off, it's "highly offensive" to people of color to be portrayed in such a degrading and negative light, and it's totally untrue that we acted like they're portraying us, if it wasn't for "people of color" you wouldn't have a lot of things that you enjoy now, whether they're black, Chinese, Spanish, Native American, or any other colors in the spectrum, we've donated to this country, and for you to think that you're "superior" to anyone else is just ludacris, everyone is "American" and you can't change that, so get over yourself, and check your attitude.

I don’t always like Megy’s tone but her comments are not scandalous. Early blackface theatre shows may have been derogatory - but that doesn’t mean that dressing up as another ethnicity for Halloween is by default derogatory. It’s just not the same thing.
There’s an interesting phenomenon in many cultures of the world where a day of festivity involves dressing up to be the opposite of your normal role in society. This occurs in contexts as diverse as African tribes and medieval Europe.
Men dress as women and vice versa. Nobility dress as poorer people - and vice versa. It’s a “carnival” vibe where the usual social categories are turned on their head, taboos are explored and the different rules apply.
Humans have done this throughout history. It creates a liminal space to explore beyond the daily categories. I see Halloween as one way that modern society expresses this desire to embrace the opposite, embrace taboo.
Unfortunately modern Americans tend to have a very limited frame of reference when it comes to culture and the true meaning of diversity.
In the current culture wars, the basic humanity which we all share is being disintegrated.

I am from Algeria, I just had this conversation with people of different races at work.
None of them thought dressing-up in another race/color/ethnicity is racist.
We don't care. It is not disrespect. There are too many sensitivities in The States. So sad. Be one and expect the best of each other, meaning that if someone is dressing-up in your race it is not to make fun of you but to just dress-up for halloween and have a good time. Man, it could even be a bonding time between you and your friends from other races. Halloween is to step out of routine and enjoy time with friends.

Who ultimately is responsible for the content of the segment and the dialogue if the script for the segment?
