    People feel that Blasters are unskilled and dying to a random/lucky 1 shot. People really don't like getting killed by indirects around corners or behind walks. Plus People just don't think it's fun

      Blasters are probably some of the more skilled weapons in the game. Certainly more than most Shooters, at least.
      Having to learn proper spacing and being able to play around your strengths while mitigating the many weaknesses of the class isnt easy.
      People really just complain about them because they don't know how to fight them. It's like when people run out into the open, get sniped, and then complain about Chargers being OP.

    • @NotSnak
      @NotSnak Před rokem +14

      Dying in 1 hit just isint fun most of the time. Especially from a distance. and indirect shots will usually lead into a kill anyway because of it painting your feet and making it hard to get away. Faster weapons can get away sometimes but slower weapons like sloshers and rollers with endlag will just die to an indirect because you can easily follow up with another indirect obviously just dont get into that situation yea but sometimes you just cant avoid it and it always feels awful when it happens. So either you die in 1 hit and it feels bad or you die to 2 indirects because you cant get away which also feels bad

      What annoys me most is that once you’re in range you’re dead and can at most only trade with them unless the blaster is bad. Also lag in this game really helps them. They shoot after death the most consistently I’ve noticed.

      @@archflamingo9156 I know, people love to complain about Blasters being unskilled, but the 2 shot with indirects is a very slow kill time, and if you got one shotted by a Blaster, that's just the Blaster player being good and having precise aim.

  • @noizepusher7594

    I think the issue is that it makes you kinda confused when you die, due to how all or nothing the weapon’s design is. Even with a one hit KO weapon like charger, when you disappear into a splatter of ink within an instant, the confusion is usually dispelled when the screen pans over to a charger player. When it says that you died to a charger it’s pretty easy to make the connection that you were in line of sight and within range. But because of how blasters are a little more complex, they can make shots that make no sense to people who have simply just played the weapon for a little bit. While chargers are simple to understand: you charge, you aim, you shoot. But with blasters, there’s blast radius, directs, indirects, sparking, and a bunch of different kinds of blaster shots. So when a blaster uses a technique that isn’t intuitive to people who don’t know the intricacies of the weapon: it seems unintuitive.

    I think it's becoming more and more obvious, but the weapons that can deal with W-key warriors and require you to actually think about how to fight them are the most hated weapons :
    A Charger can kill you from afar, forcing you to take cover and basically think about how to approach, and you forget that the charge time for the 1-shot is really long, that weapon is slow because it paints slowly and not reliably, and if you back one into a corner, if you're not weakened, they either jump out or die
    A Blaster has an explosion with a rather large radius, and even if it doesn't kill you, it can deal chip damage, making you more vulnerable, and people focus on that and not on the fact that Blasters can't paint, and are SLOW, and as long as you are aware of your surroundings, you can deal with them pretty easily as it would be more difficult to ambush you (which is basically Clash Blaster's Modus operandi btw)

      It would probably be the same situation if they buffed brellas. I've squished so many shooter players because I'll shoot them once and then they'll just hold forward and ZR and run face first into my canopy. If they buffed Brellas to actually be good then people would definitely complain about it being overpowered even though it has so many counters and so much counterplay and call it a "No-Skill Weapon".

When I first began to play Splatoon 2 several years ago, I was one of the many extreme casuals who kept saying the "Blasters were too op and unfair." "They have such a little skill floor, etc." But as I got more into higher ranks overtime, I started to understand better how to counter Blaster and defend against them.
    I do think that blasters need a bit more love, because the weapon themselves are not even op, but if give proper treatment they can be good in comp play. The devs just need to know what to do with them.

    Fighting a one shot weapon requires proper movement and positioning, lower elo players struggle with movement itself and paint control which limits movement. Plus a lot of players, instead of learning on how to fight a blaster, just default on to it being "unfair" when the glaring weaknesses the weapon has can be easily exploited with the most basic coordination that can even be found in solo queue. This goes for many other weapons too which Prochara goes over too.

    at a high level I respect blaster players for their very high skill ceiling to master. In my opinion blasters are the hardest slayer type in the game (besides squiffer, splat/tenta brella, and reef-lux) to use at a high level of play but are also east to pick up making them a very appealing choice towards all and the ones who master the weapon and learn to 1 shot consistently are players I respect as much as that 1 insane e-liter who destroyed your team 10 games ago. What I hate are blaster players who just give up on aim. I'm sure you've seen it, you get killed by a blaster player whose blasts are absolutely nowhere close to you. While netlag may play some part in this, it is infuriating when you are trying your absolute best and get killed by someone who just straight up cheesed you. The same feeling applies to tri slosher.
    This can be excused in part but how difficult the blaster class is to master, but at low-mid level blasters who have given up on aim and yet still kill you is what people hate.

  • @superpokefan9567
    @superpokefan9567 Před rokem +7

    As a casual player, I can't really say how blasters are in competitive modes.
    For me, they are pretty annoying. When people say the weapons are braindead or no skill, they aren't entirely wrong. Very few weapons can get away with being inaccurate like a blaster. Sure the bursts chip damage isn't as much as a direct hit, but eating 2 or 3 indirects will still splat you. There also aren't many weapons that can hit players from behind cover like blasters. If you don't have a good weapon for getting away, you're also going to eat those hits and get splatted. If you aren't attuned with your surroundings 100% of the time, a blaster can catch you off guard and splat you fairly quickly.
    I've seen people bring up Chargers as a similar comparison to Blasters but they aren't the same. Chargers still have to be accurate to get their one shots. Blasters can just poke with their burst radius without needing to be accurate. Sure you can say skill issue, but not every player is going to look up guides or techs or how to counter blasters when they lose to them. The problem with chargers is the openness of the maps. There isn't enough flanks or cover to take advantage of, and so the charger can pick you off fairly easily. But, the charger still has to be accurate to nail their shots. The blaster just has to aim in the enemies general direction to get his hits. No other weapon gets that luxury. Even if blasters have drawbacks, those won't really be a factor in casual play.
    At the end of the day, it really is just a skill issue. You guys went on about how bad blasters are in a competitive environment, but the rest of the game is not that environment. So, the less skilled players have to struggle against this, from their point of view, skilless weapon, until they learn to counter blasters or just baby rage because blasters are unfair. That's just my 2 cents. It is interesting to get different perspectives on the matter. I don't really like the eliter, but its not so much the sniper itself that is the problem, it's more the fact that the maps are so open that it's a sniper's paradise. That's an angle I hadn't considered when malding over being splatted by eliters.

    • @analyticalj8687
      @analyticalj8687 Před rokem +3

      Very interesting take! I will add though that blasters are not just "aim in the general direction. • @WeirdVideoGamerChannel

    I've won a 1000 matches with range blaster and there's a few things to clarify:
    1: They had to offset range blaster with wave breaker by giving us a suction bomb because the special and gun we have has abysmal ink coverage
    2: If I have to jump down somewhere and I'm stuck without a good plan in an area with mostly enemy ink that it puts me in very dangerous situations where fast guns can swarm me, contrasted by how long it takes me to get a kill when 2 shots fire slow and you have to get lucky or aim and time perfectly to get 1 hit kills on them! (I'd advise you to try to stick to guns who get one hit kills if they aren't shooters because you need it to have a chance to take out two people on you at the same time fast enough!
    3. This gun is extremely gear dependent because you need high swim speed to back away from danger or serve 2 shots to them fast enough, you also need ability enhancer to use jump shots that are critical to use on specific maps, and you use so much ink for suction bombs and and shots that you need some sort of ink refill
    4. It's also a little janky too because your shots will defect if shot too close to a side or flooring and it's easy to mess up critical moments like that.
    A lot of guns in this game are harsh with their ability to kill but this one seems cheap in particular because it can get a lot of different kinds of kills that people won't believe and it also hits like a sledge hammer when it does.

      You're just reciting it's strengths, which makes it sound broken.
      Think of it like this, for every extreme strength that Range Blaster has, it has a crippling weakness to compensate.
      Exploiting these weaknesses is how you deal with the weapon.
      It can't paint well, it's special output is low, it's fire rate is super slow, it's vulnerable in close range, it has bad mobility, and it has poor ink efficiency.
      All of these can be exploited, and when you do that, Range Blaster not only stops being annoying, but becomes super easy to defeat, your mouth will be watering whenever you see a Range Blaster.

However, when I face a player with a blaster, and that player can aim, then I know that player is really skillful; and usually the match gets hard as hell. But thats the name of the game and its fair. I feel maybe people hate those blasters, because they just hit different, and thats the point. I think to put it REALLY simply, people really don't like 1 shots AND people don't like taking damage from consistant splash damage on missed shots.
    Those are the 2 things that are obvious when you die/fight balster weapons. If you start to learn blaster its a pain cuz it needs aim, ink, and positioning. But if you fight them it just feels like youre constantly being out ranged, take damage even when they are missing shots, and sometimes getting 1 shot even if you finally close the distance to try and punish them.

    Man people don’t understand when saying a weapon is skilless, we pretty much mean it just requires less skill than others to play, (cough cough brush) EVERY weapon takes skill to play it, blasters and brushes just require less brainpower to use compared to most other weapons due to the hit box being large and not having to aim directly at someone to kill them, when they have to have perfect aim to even stand a chance. Blah blah blah you get the point here I’ve been playing since splat 1 and tbh I feel like y’all are the only ones telling people and making people think blasters are bad. All those tier list rankings and stuff like that, people are gonna take it serious whether their casual or competitive, how do you think this stupid splash meta started anyway? so when yall CZcamsrs are ranking range blaster pretty low and talk about how slow it is, the horrible jump rng, and not good for paint and special output then why would people wanna pick it up and use it regardless if your telling us it’s good or not in casual or comp 😭💀

    • @maskofice9432
      @maskofice9432 Před rokem +1

      Splash meta didn't start because people said the splash was good, it started because the splash was good. Now more people in casual settings who don't play competitive probably picked up the splash because of those tier lists and it's more popular in casual, but that's not what the splash meta is, that's a separate problem.
      The issue is the divide between competitive and casual, which is part of why so many competitive players try to emphasize they're talking about these weapons from a competitive perspective, and yes not everyone will listen and start applying competitive perspective to the weapons they choose despite that, but when talking about competitive play, competitive splatoon players will describe what they see.

For primarily using splatlings I’ve been branching out into e-liter and roller, which are like the 2 biggest threats for splatling. The thing is every 1-shot weapon in this game (unless I’m forgetting something) really requires you to play around its gimmick b/c they all have big downsides and players who are very good at abusing its advantages succeed. For someone who used to hate dying to flanks now I applaud a good roller flanker, it’s not easy esp when your team doesn’t have much paint on the ground to move in.
