More Vids! Please. I trust and respect your videos more than most. Maybe make two versions to each video; a swift, bullet-point style of video (not unlike what you do now), as well as a in-depth video that goes into all the nuances of different connectors, data rates over different protocols (example: SAS vs SATA), or other more informative tangents that you may exclude from your normal videos. Or maybe release more short videos that explain these detailed things. I thought I knew a fair amount about computers and networks from my experiences gaming, building GPU-based mining rigs, and various network nodes, but then I got into Chia...and consequently discovered your videos. I'm humbled and truly impressed by the difference in performance and versatility that servers and workstations can provide over even the most kick@$$ gaming PC. I feel like there are many enthusiasts like me that want to bridge that gap, and I hope you continue to assist in that effort. I really appreciate what you do, and hope you continue. You rock, Man; keep it up.

Hi. I stumbled upon this video while trying to figure out what I need to buy to use more than 8 drives my LSI "SAS9211-8I 8PORT Int 6GB Sata+SAS Pcie 2.0" card from Amazon allows. I'm still learning this stuff little by little and I understand I need an expander or expander "backplate" of some sort afaict. If you don't mind recommending, what would be the cheapest, most reliable product(s) for this? I have paired two "Cable Matters Internal Mini SAS to SATA Cable (SFF-8087 to SATA Forward Breakout) 1.6 Ft" cables after seeing them recommended in some of the reviews for this LSI card. If my PC specs help, they are: 990FX mobo; FX-6300; 32GB 1866 DDR3 (locked to 1600 by cpu); LSI card (in 2nd PCIe 2.0 x16 slot). The majority of the drives to connect would be traditional mechanical drives so I'm not so concerned having SSD's throttled (besides, I've heard conflicting viewpoints whether they can be harmed using these cards with ssd's instead of native mobo sata ports) I'd like to keep all the wiring inside my tower chassis and not have additional external wires if possible. In any event, thank you for your time and consideration and will watch this video again in hopes something clicks as to which direction to go.

Hi @Sloth tech ! Just received a BROADCOM LSI 9650SE-12/16ML 16 channels SATA RAID PCI HBA from ebay but can not succeed to connect HDDs that are out of the box (using 8087 split cables). When in the LSI card bios I'm only able to "create unit" from HDD that have already been connected to my Dell T5810 (so full with plots) but impossible to "create unit" with brand new HDD (they show up in "incomplete drives and others" with "drive error"). Is there anything to do to configure the card ? I can not find any driver (i'm using Widows 10 pro). Any tips ? Great videos btw ! I learned all from scratch thanks to your channel on how to mine Chia first with swar then with mad max. Now trying to connect 32 HDDs to my T5810 after having seen this video. What a challenge ! Cheers.

    Cool!
The only other thing that I would add is to be careful if you are using SAS expanders and/or other host bus adapters from the perspective of how your host system is actually managing the drives and the data that's on those drives.
Ideally, a good rule-of-thumb to go by is that you'd want at least 1 GB of RAM per every TB of data that your host system/server is managing as well as (also, ideally) one CPU core (preferrably physical core as opposed to a logical core) per drive that the host server is managing as well.
This is mostly so that you can keep your drive's throughput at a maximum IF you aren't using some kind of remote direct memory access (RDMA) technology.
