I think this captures the spirit of triathlon: itâs not all gear and fancy bikes, but the smile on his face and that sense of accomplishment is priceless. congratulations!!
But tbf he did have a lot of fancy gear and full swift setup and a pretty fancy bike to race with âŠ.. but still good man was awesome to watch.
This is so beautiful and the best thing is, while I love watching the pros and stuff, this is so much more relatable and a realistic prospect for guys like me, starting from pretty much zero.
Thanks for the journey and congrats
8:26 Ah yes, not just a great athlete, but a man of culture as well
Huzzah!
Fav part of the video haha
Especially since they were ducks. đ
Watching this guy do his first triathlon actually inspired me to go for it. I've been thinking about it for years. Always put it off. But now I've started training and everything! Good job man, and I hope to join you soon as a triathlete myself!
Do it! I just did my first one in August, and finished it. Mine had a mountainous bike ride which I thought was going to kill me, my next one will be closer to home and much flatter. Now I just need to make friends with someone who has a bike like that to lend...
I literally cried when he crossed that finish line knowing one day I want to achieve it too!! @GTN please please continue this series. We want to see a woman too!
" look at all these chickens" just burst out laughing at work over this on my break đ€Ł couple funny looks from colleagues đ
Today I completed my first sprint triathlon and I must say that it feels amazing to say Iâve completed one. This series was a huge inspiration in the months leading up to the race and I probably watched it more times than I can count. Thank you Alex and GTN for showing the trials and triumphs of a beginner and how anyone can go from zero to hero as long as they put in the work!
Absolutely loved watching this journey. Well done to all!!
After watching GTN videos for months and months, I also did my first sprint a week ago! It has been really really great to follow Alex's journey, with a sense of comfort that all the first-timer unknowns and questions I've had were valid and experienced by many -- in 'real-time' as well!
Alex -- you're a legend! Well done dude.
I think @Global Triathlon Network can see how valuable this is for everyone here in the comments section đđŒ
Very cool series. Looking forward to episode 50 in which you finish an iron man!
If Mark was really your friend heâd lend you his Canyon speedmax đ
lol, but in all seriousness putting someone inexperienced in triathlon bike is kinda dangerous.
@@beb7427 Agreed, especially if they are not technically confident then the road bike will probably be faster
Hahahahahahah
Congrats Alex.... Really enjoyed this series as I was preparing to my first sprint and had the same struggles.... Wondering what is next for Alex? Really like all the presenters but having Alex in front of the camera really connects to the more "normal people" starting on the sport.
Super relatable... Whilst I really enjoy all the bigger, pro event videos and in-depth techniques and tips. This is great and reminds me I really need to book some shorter events before my first BIG tri next Summer.
Well done Alex. Really enjoyed this series đđœ
Well done Alex!! Great achievement.. Really enjoyed following this series.
I wanna see more Alex! :) This was so great to watch his journey and see his confidence grow
Nicely done! I find this series extremely motivating!
Well done! I really enjoyed this series and followed it closely along with my training for my first sprint, thanks guys!
I loved this series!, very good job GTN creating it. Congratulations Alex!
Great effort, well done. Please do more of these 'journey' videos. :)
My 1st time seeing this series!! I'm running and cycling ATM so I find this quite encouraging to make me go and practise my swimming to go on and do a Tri!! Thanks GCN
Well done! Great series, looking forward to more episodes đ
Great job! Thanks so much for this, and for the free plan as well! Much appreciated!!!
Well done Alex! Amazing work, been a great series to follow along with
Quite simply a brilliant little film. Well done!
Nothing beats finishing the first tri. So good!
Enjoyed the series, well done, great job !!
Great work Alex. I've really enjoyed these videos as I'm currently training for my first tri. I hope you do more of these for your next journey.
Great job Alex! Very inspiring to see how much progress was made in this series and to see that Alex is gonna continue with triathlon as well!
What a nice incentive. I'm new to triathlon and that motivates me to keep going. thanks
Brought memories of my first one back (it was only 3 years ago). Totally understand the nervousness at the start, just not knowing what it's going to be like, also the support an camaraderie hinted at around the event is pretty unique to triathlon in my experience. What more can I say...Alex will be signing up for an ironman before he knows it :)
Thanks for the video! Would love to see something like this again. I learned a lot for his journey. Also clipless peddles were a game changer for me.
Many Congratulations Alex. Iâm thinking of getting into triathlons and seeing your journey gives me a little more confidence and a great insight. Also, watching this series of videos is what has introduced me to the channel, subscriber earned!
Loved the series! Helps my motivation to do my first triathlon. Thank you!
I've got my first triathlon in 2 weeks and have been following along in a similar time frame. Great series for newbies!
Great job Alex you did amazing. Such a fun journey to be a part of
Awesome progress Alex, thanks for all these videos they are very helpful for me :)
Well done Alex đ the mount/dismount on the bike were super smooth! Simple things like that always help calm you down for the whole event..! Onto the next one!
I think I went off in the wave after you for my first triathlon! I was wondering why I kept seeing GTN people around!! Massive congratulations!!
This was a fun series to follow. Well done!
Great work man! Keep it going
Well done đ this is truly inspiring
Very well done Alex, looking forward to my own start in Triathlon
Congrats Alex! That's a new experience you gave to your life. Wish you hundreds of those days in the future!
Congrats for this triathlon you did an amazing job!!
This is massively helpful for me! I'm doing my first sprint triathlon on the 9th of July and to say I'm terrified is an understatement. Huge well done!
Agreed really captured the hole triathlon world in real people's terms great job GTN
Awesome! I just did my first triathlon last week and completely understand that dread of waiting to go in the water. As soon as I finished though I was already thinking of doing another - Olympic distance next! I hope you continue your journey as well!
Great job!
Well done Alex, great job! Also loved how relatable this is.
much respect and a good motivation for me to see how much you have improved. i am also staring out with triathlon :)
Way to go Alex! Reminds me of my journey to my first Sprint. Great series, and great to see folks featured who aren't pro or competing for age-group wins. Well done GTN!
Congratulations đ đȘ
Very cool to see!
this video is so motivating. I also wanted to do my first two triathlons this year, but unfortunately both were cancelled. Now I used the summer to train my bike session and now in winter I focus my run and swim session. Can't wait to start at my first triathlon.
keep up the good work with such great content
Way to go Alex! So glad you had great experience. I totally related to your nervousness before the swim start đ. It was fun to watch your whole journey ... It brought back many memories from my first race.
Loved watching this! My first sprint triathlon is in just over 2 weeks and I have been on a very similar journey, hoping for the same things!
Congratulations Alex! Job well done by you and all involved. Just makes me want to do A Sprint Tri even more then I already do. Ah if I only had swim access. Great stuff so so keep it coming!!
Congrats Alex, good job đș
Well done!!!!
A really good idea having this kind of beginner series!
Well done guys!
Good job! Congratulations đ My first sprint triatlon will be 6.5. 2023 This video help me relax. I have such a big respect from open water swim. No afraid, but just wories đ But I believe in myself. When I start somethings I finished.
Wow nice and smooth flying mount & dismount! You did a great job there. With clip pedals is a bit harder but you got the basics. My recommendation is get comfortable with the sprint distance before going for the Olympic distance, doubling everything is quite a lot. Swim a lot and start upping your running mileage progressively, and your next triathlon will be a walk on the park.
Well done! Nice time to see your effort! I am having my first triathlon on Sunday! I will try to enjoy it and I don't care if I finish last. Only worries. .. open water swim. I need calm and clear waters đ. It seems that the weather will do me a favor. Wish to have fun and many more đââïž đŽââïž đââïž to come!
Congrats Alex. The whole reason I subscribed to GTN was for tips on swimming as I competed in my first Tri this summer. I've cycled and ran for years, but never swam in a competitive manner and it showed as I can only describe the swim as "surviving". There were a couple of really nervous lifeguards following along behind me on paddle boards. My only pool time this summer consisted of about 2 hours of which 30 min was napping on a pool noodle so I can only blame myself there. Good luck with the future events as I'm hooked now. God Bless.
Well done!
Great job Alex!!
Smashed it Alex! Well done
Well done đ
Well done Alex! Big up
Well done! At last someone I can relate my experience to.
Itâs aspiring. I am preparing to start a sprint in a few months. Well done đ
Nice job. Good on ya
Would love to see more from Alex!
Good job and welcome to triathletes' family :)
Congrats on the finish! I did my first triathlon on the 18th and it was a blast! It rained the whole time but that only made the shower after so much better
I've done a lot of sprint triathlons, started with Supersprint on a corporate series.
Even when I was pushing close to 1:10 for a sprint (and almost crossed 40min for Supersprint) you still get that nervousness literally every time you line up. Love it! Aiming to get back into the swing and finally do the Hervey Bay Hundred which I've been putting off for years.
I remember once having to fill in for another teams relay swim leg, 5 minutes after finishing my run. Huge rush, exciting racing.
Well done
What a rooster - well done, Alex!
Well done Alex. I wouldn't worry about the time for your 1st event. Finishing is by far the biggest achievement. As you said future events you can work on your transitions that will bring your times down.
epic result!!
congrats
Well done, so much time you can make up on the bike and knock a few mins off the run and you'll be well on target. Very well done though and glad to see you managed to get a nice bike to use. đȘ Lets keep it rolling GTN and follow Alex through to Oly and sure at that point a 70.3 isn't a huge leap. đ€·ââïž đ
Well done Alex!!
good job !
Well done Alex! I hope we'll see you again soon in front of the camera!
That was a great journey. Congratulations on your first of many. Clipless pedals good choice and the times will show. Next, Aero bars.
Way to go! Thank you for making this series for us average Joes
Our pleasure! We're glad you like the series.
Well done Alex!
I am thinking about attempting my first tri next year (currently running quite a lot and occasionally riding a bike) and this series is what I needed to believe I can actually achieve this :D Great job Alex! WTG :D
Do it đ
Good running form.
Loved watching this series as I am toying with the idea of a tri. Started running at the start of the pandemic and dropped 40kg. Now looking for a new challenge and TRI is what I am thinking. Been on Zwift for 2 months now to get my cycling legs. Maybe 2023
Do it!
Triathlon isn't as daunting as it seems from the outside. There are distances for everyone, any safe bike will do, we're all in lycra so no need to worry about what you're wearing, and everyone is super supportive.
I waited about 20 years to do triathlon because I was afraid I'd be near the back. I've done a few and I am near the back but I get to the finish.
@@AndrewShakespeare My first race I was terrified at all of the absurdities like that I would be dead last, that little children on tricycles or nuns on one-speeds would pass me on the hills (there were some KILLER hills), and was dreading it. Then I completed it, but was indeed dead last among those who finished. Fully half of the field either didn't complete or didn't show up, and it (I hope permanently) fixed that fear. I realized that giving up was so much worse than finishing last, and that now I knew what I didn't prioritize in my training. It's amazing how facing or realizing something that terrifies you frees you of the terror. Also, there was a nun in full habit at the prerace briefing, so the Universe likes to mess with me and that has to be factored in.
Well done Alex great achievement and it sounds like you've caught the triathlon bug.
Well done Alex, you do realise thereâs no going back now! You are a triathlete!
Nice job on completing your first triathlon :)
Wouldve preferred to see the old bike tho :D
Doing my first sprint tri in a couple weeks also đ€đ€đŠŸđŠŸ
Good luck with it
@@dsidney89 thank u đđ
About to do my first open water triathlon at Hever Castle and this was a great motivator! Like you, Alex, I've swim the distance in the pool (just about) but a little nervous about having to bash it out in one go and without the comfort of little breaks at the end of each length!! One week to go!!
Best of luck with that... I think that's what's putting me off booking my first sprint at the moment. The Fear!!.... I guess you can take some breaststroke breathers midway if needed.
Really brilliant to see Alex compete the Sprint distance rather than the Super Sprint⊠onwards and upwards in your Triathlon training and racing, Alex đȘđȘđȘ
Way to go Alex! Way to go GTN for supporting him through this. Being new to the sport as well, I can appreciate the level of support needed for these journeys! Sounds like Beers are on alex for a while đ
Great effort.
But just to warn you!
4 years after I did Blenheim, I was lined up on the start line of my first IM.
This sport is addictive! đ
