  • Following the invasion of Ukraine, the US and Europe decided to throw Russia out of the SWIFT banking system. A move that was intended to cripple the Russian economy amid sanctions from the west. However, experts claim Russia and China were in fact waiting for this opportunity to disrupt how oil is traded around the world. In this week's Decode we look at Petrodollars and why is it under threat from Russia?

We will never know what is really discussed in secret between leaders of different countries, but I strongly suspect the tendency of the US to unilaterally employ brutal sanctions (actually warfare) against various non-compliant countries the last twenty years or so is a great concern to most leaders. They could see the day that they, themselves, may find themselves in the sanction cross hairs. The only way to avoid that, is to gradually start making alternative plans = i.e. back away from US influence by abandoning the dollar. Surely these leaders (Middle East, Asia, Africa, South America) have talked amongst themselves about alternative arrangements. This Ukraine crisis and Russia's defiant stand against the collective West was just the final straw. Interesting times indeed.

The last twenty years? The US embargoed Japan and almost collapsed its economy. They didn’t do this because Japan was attacking China, they did this because they knew Japan would attack them (retaliation for the US’ attack on them via embargo) which would allow the US to enter the war in Europe since Japan and Germany were allied. It also allowed the US to test their new bombs on live subjects. Never before and never since have innocent civilians been bombed on that scale. The bombs were murder and war was the excuse.

@@fv5855 trading is not considered only oil n gas, its all the commodities everything you use, eat n wear are imports/exports, and we're not talking about Russia alone when I say $, €, £ value will drop. If you're saying 141 will trade with each other's only, then you will pay very expensive in your shopping market.
In another term, 141 countries is not even half of the world populations, China, India, Russia alone are almost half of the world populations, if you including all the countries who will not wanted to trade in $,€,£, the value of $, €, £ will drop in demand. E.g. 10 people demand for the apple, but now only 5 people demad for the apple, your profit margins has already dropped. If you wanted to maintain the same profit, then you will have to increase the price, that 5 people buying the apple is equavelent to 10 people. I hope I've explains it clearly, it seem like I am going in circle. My apologies.
Other reason that the value will drop, is when you're traveling to certain countries, you will not be trade in $, €, £. Last week, China and Saudi Arabia are already traded in Yuan. Indian and China has traded in rubles from Russia.
Petrodollar is no longer in power of the world.

A very good analysis. The recent Ukraine -Russia war has became a big blow to the existing American and European economic systems. If America and European Union do not adopt itself to the present challenges the European Union's single currency Euro will collapse along with the US Dollar in the coming few days. Ultimately this would lead either to the collapse of European Union or many countries would quit their membership with European Union.

Euro will definitely fall but US dollar will not. EU is on backfoot right now and will keep declining over the years. EU was already challenging the USD for a long time now but this conflict turned the tide in favor of Russia, US and China. US is already benefitting by war right now but it'll take some months for Russia. Meanwhile China will keep its stance neutral or say inclined towards Russia but having decent relations with West as well to benefit sooner than later. So in summary EU will be the sore Loser and Brexit was a wise & great move by Britain so UK will stay unaffected for the most parts.

@5LAMPO7 that's been the rhetoric of the west, kinda an excuse of the whole fiasco of their own doing as oil price soars and now the incoming food shortages. The confidence in which USA racks up sanctions against russia, as people were told only 3% of russian oil are imported and not much to worry about but as soon as oil price hiked up, all the blame to Putin. Truly laughable to see. 3% of supply lost wouldn't make the price soar to 💯% and still climbing up.
