This is ridiculous, Beast Handlers should be able to pop any bloon except for lead and frozen! Also, I'm here before the algorithm finds this in the next few weeks xD
I hope they change this at some point, melee BH is a meme anyway, and all of the beasts can pop purple, why not just make it a physical attack. The lore reason 'it's a magic stick' is such a boring reason to not change it. MAYBE if they're planning BH Paragon that whaps with a mega-stick, I could see it then, but it's still a stretch.

Beast Tamer can't pop purple because even being a wood stick its weapon has "magic", but somehow literally necromancy magic of Wizard Monkey can pop them without any problem...

Also, the reanimated Bloons are specifically servants, so their basically traitors, hence the ability to pop purples. Nk confirmed that the beast handlers stick is fused with magic so uh yea
This is kinda like an ice monkey dilemma. Beast handlers are very much supporting towers in gameplay, but their looks are definitely making them look like a magic tower. Even then, basically every btd6 tower has some magic associated with it, so it would be kinda unintuitive to make every tower that has anything to do with magic in the magic tab
