  • The documentary tells about the encounter of violinist Fabio Biondi with the 1690 "Tuscan" Stradivari preserved in the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome.
Biondi recorded with this instrument Biber's Chaconne in G minor (1676) in the Library of the Monastero di San Giovanni Evangelista, Parma.
The video also tells about the recent research coordinated by Edizioni Scrollavezza & Zanrè, which has involved a team of international researchers and institutions, and preludes to the publication of "Treasures of Violin Making" volume II.

There is a brightness and lightness of the tone, exceptionally defined at the center of the note played and the ovetones are in such perfect mathematical alignment that when he transitions from note to chord to note, there is a slight reverberation of one set of overtones into the next that on most violins causes dissonance at some level. There is hardly any on this instrument, It is a joy to hear it. Also, the accoustics and the player aren't to be ignored.

There's a great quote by Heifetz (if I'm not mistaken) when an audience member approached him after a concert and told him that his violin sounded amazing, Heifetz then raised his violin to his own ear, and replied "that's funny, I don't hear anything"

The choice of the room for playing was a very good way of demonstrating how the Violin accompanied itself by resonance, and emphasizes the real quality of sound purity.

@@oliviu-dorianconstantinesc288 A lot of people died in 1737. Medici family ruled in Florence, Tuscany, and Stradivari worked in Cremona, Cremona much mich closer to the sphere of Milan. Lomarby has it's own language, Lombard, and Tuscan in Tuscany. There is the Great Plague in 1738 which was surely underway by then. Stradivari was 93, he had far surpassed the life expectancy which was 43 years. The Medici failed to produce a male heir and in 1737, and the Duke of Lorraine and his Habsburg wife, Maria Theresa became the rulers and the territory became Austrian briefly. One is a death of old age, the other is a story of many great houses. So no, not weird at all.

Can the museum's lab perform CT scans (now down to bacterial level resolution) of the great violins to investigate the topologies of the two plates of the instrument? The tweeter region (left of the left f-hole) and the soundboard under the fingerboard are of the most importance. Much would be learned.
