- SINGAPORE HAWKER CENTRE TOUR - TOA PAYOH LORONG 7 MARKET & FOOD CENTRE
this channel PIGGYPUGGY is bringing you all about:
hawker centres. Singapore hawker centres. Singapore food. famous Singapore hawkers. hawker food. Singapore street food. street food in Singapore. Hawker Centre Tours. Singapore food review. whatever you'd call it 😂
Like to point out that many may find that some methods are not safe or hygiene but I feel it is still safe within the limits. A lot times hawkers need to move fast so customers no need queue so long. And furthermore most food poisoning cases happen on franchise chain stalls especially when not cook by the owners themselves. These hawkers know their trades well and been there for years. If there’s any issues they would have ended up closing the stalls for good already.
Aaalllooomaaakk Brother 😎 I’m gonna pin 📍 your comment.. 200% my sentiments
For the beef noodle one, quite risky contamination when he move the beef parts to boil and the noodles are just there. If it was soup based, then no issue for me.
Another observation, when one has moved/lived in another country/not eating the usual hawker fare eg cockles (see hum), can easily have allergic reaction or contract food poisoning eg campylobacter intestinal infection. I never eat see hum at all now. The seas are so polluted that even the big oysters that u eat fresh with squeezed lemon can be hazardous.
You're quite right, watching your videos has shown how little of Singapore I know despite having lived there for three years and visited the Republic twice a year for twenty-one years since then. From your videos, I have complied a listed of centers and stands I have to visit but the list is now too long to ever accomplish on one or to visits to Singapore. And with more of your visits the list will continue to grow.
heya piggypug! yes it amazes me how u manage to go everywhere even during these pandemic times n show us all this yummy food! also u made me realize that im such a lazy eastie that ive barely ever set foot into places like Toa Payoh for example. N everywhere really got such yummy treats! Also, congrats on being YT powerhouse liao. 500k views every month woah 👍 👏 😃
You probably didn't know Jurong existed right? Furthest is probably Parkway Parade 😂.. nevermind.. this time round you can cycle to Jurong coz you then powerhouse.. I only walk 500 steps a day 😳🤫
@@Piggypuggy haha i've been to jurong for like sch and work purposes like 3x in my life. IT was very different from east side man. i scurried back to my kampong in a hurry.
Aaaawwwww, thank you Puggy. So touched, I truly appreciate this delicious segment on vegetarian CKT. No worries, I do eat eggs including dairy, not a vegan yet. What a nice hawker lady too. If only "Star Trek" is for real, I will request for a dozen plates to be "energized" / "via the transporter" to me here in CA, so I can savior the wok hei and the delicious big hor fun, which is my favorite. BTW, love the poh piah too....Yuuummmmyyyy 😋😋🤣😁👍
Thanks for bringing us to different hawker centres across the island 👍😋👍
Glad you like it.. go try the older stalls before they disappear. Singaporeans should support our hawker culture so it won’t fade away
Interesting video….👍
Thanks for watching.. hope you can visit soon
@@Piggypuggy yes, after covid I will...😁
I stayed at the block next to this hawker centre during childhood/teenage years so I know which are the old stalls - the dessert stall, the prawn mee stall, the curry rice stall are among them. Some stalls retained their names but already changed operators as the older batch of hawkers retired n they took over (with decline in standards), e.g. the fried bee hoon stall n the oyster omelette stall next to it. All these stalls were not featured in this video. Btw, there's a turtle soup stall here as well, thot might be interesting to some? This hawker centre is surrounded by 4 coffeeshops so if no stalls appeal to u, u can always visit those coffeeshops to browse further.
Thanks for sharing so much details 😀 I usually go in blind and look for some older or popular stalls to feature. Most have already changed owners and some aren’t that receptive to be interviewed. And yeah.. so many other food options at those coffee shops surrounding it. I frequent one of the Tze char stalls beside the main road. In fact.. I’m there for pottery every weekend 😂
*I hope these hawkers never retire! They are an important part of Singapore ❤️*
Let's keep recording them before they disappear!
I wouldn’t want zombie hawker 😂 have a great weekend ahead 😉
@@Piggypuggy hahaha! thanks u too :-)
A nice tasty food video here.
Fresh.
It's song 'n flower for U.
Thanks.. 😊 many more videos. All about Singapore Hawker Culture
新加坡美食小吃⋯⋯看到餓了😆⋯⋯讃👍。
🤤
I love Singapore, but as I am only ever there for a couple of days at a time I love these videos so I can cut my time down and go straight to somewhere depending on what I feel like eating (Especially if I'm waiting to check into my hotel. I would love you to start having a look at the local hawkers and markets in the actually residential estates, (the older ones) I believe there is some fantastic unknown hawkers among them. (Especially if they are slatted for redevelopment and may disappear like Tanglin Halt)
Been to Tanglin Halt few months back.. already saw that many stalls seemed to have closed. Maybe already in preparation that it’d be demolished soon 🙁
You’re doing an amazing job showcasing our hawker culture!!
I agree!
Thank you ☺️ originally did this coz more and more of the stalls I remembered well quietly disappeared.
Agree! My only issue with the videos is they made me feel so hungry even when I already eaten. 😩
Wow another new post!😋
Mr. KLKK
@@Piggypuggy 😆😅😂🤣
I think the first stall was featured on TV before and is known in the community for its very affordable Cai Png ($2.80 for 2 veg and 2 meat from what I recall) which is why there's so many people queuing up. The owner's son also owns a Thai Food stall just behind it as well.
That's the son? Running the Thai food stall behind?! 😂 No wonder the kitchen goes right thru to the Cai Png stall. Great family biz there 👍🏼😊 great community service too for pricing it so affordable for all
@@Piggypuggy yeap, he mentioned it on the TV interview before
Also, there's a very popular stall selling Hainanese Kueh at that Hawker Centre, called Hainan Cuisine and Delicacy, was also featured on TV and my Grandfather Story before. You may want to check it out
The best part is the stall is already operational before 6am
The poh piah one of my favorites will not be missed out so shiok the way aunty added the ingredients I like it 😋😋😋
I like their signboard.. soo many words on it.. only to later find out it's all the accolades 😂
Hello friend
I luv to eat Popiah , one of my favorite .. tq Piggypuggy for sharing and happy weekend 😀
Happy weekend to you too 🥰
Thank you.. for your recommendation to Lor 7 Hawker centre I have not been to this place before the food are really fantastic though I have yet to try it out. Surprise to find out that Cuppage Rd famous beef stall is located here. Hope to have more of your recommendations to many more Hawker Food centres. I will keep those place in view when phase 3 is fully lifted up then we have ideas where to eat.👍👍👍🙏
Haha.. I'm no Food King or Miss Tam Jiak.. I'm just a wanderer.. roaming the hawkers and being kaypoh on what they selling.. but hope if gives you some perspective of how each hawker centre looks like 😊
The popiah are legit good. I always order two and ask them not to cut. I will eat them like a burrito. Shiok!
😀 I've never tried having it like a Burrito! I'll try it next time 😄
But so yummy also fried fish and mince basil stew 🍲 mmmmmm rice 🍚 nice and soft mmm 😋 so nice I'll be digging.
You're overseas? Come visit us soon 🥳
Think we saw you at Lorong 7 the other day! Hopefully you can come back for round 2 and cover more stalls :) Moh Heng Coffee stall has one of the better coffees too!
Haha hello 😁 so give me some ideas of other stalls.. coz I just walk around to explore what seems nice and what's there to offer in every stall
Everything here looks appetising compared to me living here! It has so many variety of food to choose from! Really missed all these deliciousness from Singapore! 🥺😩
If it makes it any worse.. this is only 16/62 stalls there 😂🤣 have a great weekend ahead guys 🥰
这个薄饼很好吃又干净卫生很感谢他,我们才有好吃的薄饼❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tripe definitely yes. A 10 out of 10. Tendon on the other hand is a no go.
The uncle beef noodles is my fav!!! Uncle is also super nice..pls try if any of you visit this hawker.
I am on video 4. Here's to the next 100+ hawker centres..
My wife’s aunt lives across from this center, so we’ve been there a lot. Old Long House is the best in Singapore. Never fail to go there at least once on our trips. There’s a stall for fish all noodles that’s very good as well…..always a long line. And there’s a Malay stall with the absolute best mee rebus I’ve ever had. In the back, there’s a seafood restaurant that’s very fresh and very good. This is quite a good, yet unheralded food center.
We usually just visit hawkers close to where we live.. little would we know of so many hidden gems in places we haven’t even been before. Thanks for your recommendations. Will be sure to check them out when i visit this hawker again
These people have energy to cook everyday yummy can't help the veggie rice sweet and sour sauce nice really 😋
Just check out the price.. even more amazing
Long long time ago, the hawker stalls are housed in a few rows of blocks. I like one selling a noodle with mushroom with large amount of vinegar taste. There was also a good pork porridge stall manned by a thin middle age lady. The stall was not furnished with cement walls and floors. We would crack an egg in our metal container to buy the porridge. These blocks were all gone.
I remembered they were usually a very basic row of structure. And stalls were kinda like market stalls with lower segregation. The base of seats would need another block of concrete to secure it.. and bring your own eggs 😅 thanks for the memories
@@Piggypuggy Correct. Exactly. You described it well! The tables were those foldable tables which would be kept at end of the days. I saw the porridge lady once at a wedding dinner. I said hey arent you the sell porridge one! She gave a graceful smile. From her features, she was a pretty lady in her younger days.
Gave her youth to feed the nation.. back then.. they were the generation that's willing to hold a simple job.. to be happy with public housing. A stable Life. Life was happy for them. Just simple. And they knew by doin so, this is a job that feeds the family. Now we live in a generation of a developed country where the opportunities of travel and luxury cannot often be ignored 😁
@@Piggypuggy There was a TCM shop there that my mum used to patronise. One of the staff has an hairstyle like Sammo hung. A nice looking young man. They have this dial phone in a cupboard. Customers can request to use. One of the numbers got a physical constraint to prevent customers from calling overseas. Along the same stretch of shops, there was this book store. It was manned by a strict looking old lady. She would reprimand customers if they browse the books and magazines. Bought some 儿童乐园 , 叮当 and 电视周刊 from there. Also bought guidebooks to TV dramas that provides a summary of each episode. But they usually do not give out the finale and asked you to watch it.
@@SuccessforLifester 😂 I almost forgot about 儿童乐园.. only rem old master Q $2. Times have changed so quickly.. TV dramas and their short synopsis..I think that existed way into the 90s right? I can't believe 20years have passed year 2000. Ah pek liao
Haven’t been there but the food looks awesome especially the mix veg rice and Thai food stall. Must try.
The Thai food looks awesome.. will try once this episode of cases die down.. 😒
Fyi one of the stalls sell damn good pork knuckles(猪脚醋),think it's in the coffeeshop not market. Go check it out, it's a cai peng stall, got long queue one.
The vinegar kind ah? I saw many coffee shops with so much more stalls there.. I'm like.. what kinda food mecca is this?!! Already 62 stall space.. and still add on probably 20 odd stalls from the coffee shops right beside it. Ok.. shall go kepo another day.. enjoy the rest of your Sunday Beautiful JENN 😊
@@Piggypuggy next time u are there, go check out the corner barber shop , the one with the 💈, that shop seems to be there since my time staying at blk 12 lor7 many many years ago.
Hello friend
Hello ..i like u video sharing so yummy.

Wah so chun, I went there this morning. Bought mee goreng for my maid.
Chun Chun Char Bee Hoon.. your maid feel the 🥰 bo? Nice Boss leh.. 👍🏼
Wow... your maid so lucky. Probably Sunday off day and boss went tapau food for maid. Good boss you are!
Hai Nan Xing Zhou Beef Noodle is a must try if you like to eat beef noodle & also Dove Desserts Nyonya Chendol that the owner learn it from malaka, sadly is the Ah Chuan Fried Oyster Omelette have permanently closed down!😟
I did I did.. went back to have the mixed bowl for lunch. $7. But has quite a few tendons if one is into that stuff. Was good. I can't remember them at cuppage tho
Great job
Thank you Alec
Around the 1 minute mark, is that a cockroach or housefly on the glass partition?
😱😳😳
The Chee cheong fun stall is also good ..y never film them
Lai Heng Economical Mixed Vegetables Rice is the cheapest in Singapore which you can get a plate of 1 veg + 1 meat @ $2.00 , 2 meats + 2 veg @ $2.50 or 2 meats + 2 vegs economy rice for just $2.80 only!!!
Nooo wonder sooo many ah peks eat there laaa.. I just realized alot of stalls change their pricing.. like the fruit stall and the nasi lemak.. probably only $2 from before. Now take away the 0 and out in a 4. $2.40
anyone has recommendations for stores opened around 10pm - 2am at TPY lorong 7 area? always wanted supper but dont know what is opened
lol ven diagram popiah :P
Shane and Shine missed you
Beef noodles looks 😋
It is.. authentic old school straight up beef noodles
I think they should not be called hawkers anymore. They r food vendors in food courts. U don't hear them hawk their products like they used to in the past anymore.
Guess the true hawkers left are those selling durians in Greylang 😅
Haha i laugh at 20:31 Yeah sir yeah sir one more take photo
Must have caught me trying to zoom in but couldn't get a good shot.. nice fellas there
Mee Rebus very nice
The vegetarian stall auntie fry the kueh tiao put in the box very roughkueh tiao out the box oso never clean up ,Mmm😵💫
Have Laa.. I just edited out the boring cleaning up part of the video
Hope next time show out full video don edited than we watch won’t miss understanding .🤔
@5:16, the uncle takes tongs sitting in the raw beef container directly into cooked noodles. The noodles are not recooked (although they're pretty hot at that point), but simply covered with hot beef and sauce. Subsequently, he uses the same tongs to take other raw ingredients while still manipulating cooked noodles with said tongs. I don't know about you, but that's probably not best practice for food safety (cross-contamination).
True
Have been eating for over 2 decades with no issue at all & also never heard of any food poisoning from this stall!
Yeah.. 40over years.. we’ve enjoyed Hawkers like these without issues. The boiling hot gravy probably did the job. So no worries 😉
That means the beef is very fresh.
Is it true I was thinking 🤔 the same thing about raw meat dirty equipment it looks very nice ☺️ too much beef sauce a little would be nice and cook beef more dumplings like yesterday here in SA the same thing happen people must be careful eating street food or foot recook from yesterday .They must food inspection coming there every month and check kitchen utensils .
Why did the pregnant lady pull down her mask ?
Paying by Apple faceid
@@Piggypuggy oic, thanks
我跟你们老实讲:这些便宜饮食摊子如果保不住,以后别指望我去新加波!
Yeah ok let me say it again, without these hawker stalls I would not go to Singapore
😅 there’s really nothin much to do in Singapore except to eat
The popian filling with fake crab meat & not prawn selling at $1.70 for me is a bit expensive !
Maybe they're famous.. that's why command a higher price. One just gotta try it then decide.. but ok laa.. 1 curry puff also $1.80 at old Chang Kee liao 😂
@@Piggypuggy $1.80!? I thought $1.60 only???😲
Haha.. I dunno also.. I blur that day when someone said OCK also 1.80. Maybe he went to OCK at Sentosa 🤣
@@Piggypuggy ya lah! I just bought few days ago for $1.60!
I thought I so blindly accept buying OCK until even $1.80 I also never kaopeh.. but anyway.. even if $1.80
I also kaopeh already quietly buy and eat.. 😒
So expensive
