    Aside from expanding the existing pipe, why not put a brass sleeve on it? You have a lathe.
    Before you do either, it would be a good idea to find out of the problem is actually the reproducer, like it became worn. See if it fits on other tonearms or it if is loose.

      @mrrgstuff  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Yes, the problem is the tonearm fits into a rubber ring/isolator on the back of the soundbox. The rubber is no longer flexible so it doesn't clamp down on the smooth tonearm. Fitting a new isolator is probably the most reliable solution. Thanks 😀 👍

    I used to keep a box of stuff like that that I thought may come in use one day. It never seemed to be what I wanted and I threw it out last year!

      Yes, I still keep drawers of useful junk, but I have been slimming it down due to space! 😅. Thanks 😀 👍

    Use a pipe expander and make the tonearm bigger.

    Hi there ! This phonograph is very interesting ( well fixed by yourself with the respect of original natural rubber which is everytime disformed by years...its soundbox is really similar to the rare Orchorsol portable phonograph one. I think those brands both worked in the middle of the 1920's because Orchorsol brand desappeared during the crisis of 1929...they developped before some well made soundboxes their aim was to get a rubber jointure to ban the vibes in cause of nazzeling effects while playing...that was patented to...regards from France

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks 😀 👍. I think that Orchorsol bought or somehow took over Celebro, so the Orchorsol portable is the same, but with different branding. I wouldn't be surprised if the Celebro was actually rarer! 😅. It was a lucky find for me, and I think it has been serviced in recent years as it runs very smoothly. Here is another video where I look at it in more detail:

    Good quick fix resulting in excellent isolation. Think there's a some seductive marketing in the magnet shaped soundbox, hinting that electricity is somehow involved! The auto brake looks identical to my Dulcetto portable.

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před 8 měsíci

      Indeed, and it had never occurred to me, it looks like an electric pickup, but it does! I think my auto brake needs cleaning and adjusting as it doesn't set or trip properly. Thanks 😀 👍

    • @tiga4180
      @tiga4180 Před 7 měsíci

      @@mrrgstuff I find these auto brakes are superior to the HMV type, which needs an eccentric runout to trigger it, poss. only found on HMV records of the day. As far as I can gather, the brake found on yours & on certain Decca models, depends on friction, which is overcome by the incremental movement caused the fine pitch grooves of the record, but which holds when there's a speedy movement of the tone arm caused by the more steeply pitched runout, thereby triggering the brake. Guess it would be tricky to set up when out of adjustment.

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @tiga4180 That's interesting. I thought it would be able to stop at an arbitrary position. I hadn't thought to set it in the runout groove. Will give it a go. Thanks 😀 👍

      Thanks 😀 👍. I seem to remember that Rossini was just a stage name and was much the same band as Primo Scala, which are easier to find. Led by Harry Bidgood, who also recorded under some other names

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před 26 dny

      @hugonotti9192 Certainly worth a try, though maybe too smooth. Also be careful if you have to apply any heat as it is easy to damage the finish on machines like this. The soundbox on this machine still slips, so I may just have to buy a replacement rubber isolator for it. Currently I have to watch the machine like a hawk when it is playing! 😅. Thanks 👍 😀

    • @hugonotti9192

      actually, I have used a piece of glove on my machine. Heatshrink tubing would have been too thick. Works nicely for the moment.

    For me I put a put abit of tape on the tonearm if the soundbox hole is too big but still very nice! My friend has one machine from celebro but it’s not really in good condition but it still works! But he sells to me about $150 though

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před 8 měsíci

      Tape will work, but it can lift/damage the plating so I try not to use it. The plastic sleeve has helped, but the soundbox still falls off from time to time 😅. Thanks 😀 👍

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před 8 měsíci

      Interesting that your friend has a Celebro. I think they only did the portable model and were taken over by other company so not a very common machine. Would have been sold in competition to the HMV 101 and maybe 102 and performs really quite well.

      @@mrrgstuff Hello, have you tried with isolation tape. This is what I use in my HMV fake gramophone. You could see in by channel some videos.

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Tape is certainly an option. I try to avoid using adhesive tape on plated metal surfaces as I have had bad experience where the plating was damaged. What I might do, though, is add tape over the plastic sleeve. I have previously found that paper tape (masking tape) gives a rough surface, which helps to stop things slipping. Thanks 😀 👍
