    I’m a little surprised you didn’t mention that, as it’s a fake blade, there is nothing keeping you from a murder stroke (holding by blade and hitting target with handle). This would allow you to hit with metal and still have the polycarbonate blade.

    • @elana1463

      Actually a surprisingly big amount. Turns out when possesion is illegal, supply tends to be low as well. So the stupid ones are left without an opportunity to get good weapons. And the smart ones are less likely to use them, so the average problem becomes way less.

    • @Jus7aguy
      @Jus7aguy Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yeah they tend to, because simply being caught with it on your body or in your possession is an instant arrest and not good for you. So there's no "It's an open carry state" or "I have a permit for that at home." It's "Show your permit right now, you can't open carry with it anyway, and you're under arrest." So if you see a guy out of uniform with a gun, in a situation of a farm or open carrying in any semi-urban environment? He's not supposed to have it and you call the cops. Hey it's only stopped mass-shootings for 30 odd years now, and the very concept of active shooter drills in schools will have kids looking at you weird.
      How's your system going for you? ... Oh wait.

      I mean, it's one thing to go specifically after lethal weapons. Kinda iffy but I can see the logic in reducing casualties by reducing availability of weapons that cause them (my personal view on that is "only as a last resort" - implementing proper social programs to reduce the underlying causes of violent crime works better as it addresses the root cause rather than trying to treat a symptom). But a combat-grade lightsaber prop? That's a non-lethal weapon. Sure, there might be concern about using the hilt as a bludgeon but at that point you might as well throw everyone in their own separate padded rooms for life for their own protection, because you can do that with a rock or even your bare hands.
      The only reason a government might have to ban even non-lethal forms of self defense is if they intend to mobilize against their own people in the future, or is paranoid about its people mobilizing against them. Neither reason is valid.

    • @theworstcatholic7247
      @theworstcatholic7247 Před 3 měsíci

      @@VestedUTuber The only reason a government would ban lethal weapons is to have the ability to overstep on their own people. Criminals will always find ways to do what they wish, that's why they are criminals, all making the laws do is make it harder for the innocent to defend themselves. Citizens should always have the best option to defend themselves at their disposal and that's lethal.
      The root of the problem I agree with. It's why here in the U.S. teenagers would have their FA's in their trucks during hunting season forty years ago and there was no issue and why places like NYC with the most heavy FA control and laws, has the most FA and violent crime. The problem is cultural and social, not the tool available.

    plz do vibro blades, there real(used for cutting ceramics).. and in starwars.
    Oh and if all i had was a toy lightsaber to defend my self - switch it round the other way and hit them with the steel/Aluminium handle - not the plastic.
    Regarding self defense, I recently came to a realization: walking sticks.
    Now im in a situation that i genuinely need a walking stick to aid with walking due to disability, but I used to be quite the badass... (ex forces, former semi pro fighter, blackbelt in judo) - and In my daily workouts(if I dont exercise daily I cant move well at all) I have been incorporating technique with the stick.
    Honestly my stick is a very standard one, aluminium body - plastic handle, rubber foot. but do you know what its shaped like? a bloody WARHAMMER, or WARPICK.
    a little alteration to the handle and this could go from a dangerous weapon to a VERY dangerous one.
    Ive even had ideas about making walking sticks with a torch built in to them to deter people too.
    I lack the tools to make a prototype easily but if this idea interests you tyranth - lets talk.

      @kirbyis4ever Před 2 měsíci

      1) Even if you don't land the hit it would make for an excellent distraction. If you actually get a poke to land eyes are pretty delicate so you might debilitate someone briefly.
      2) Depends on the mass of the object you're trying to deflect. Polycarbonate is pretty light and against a hard edge it WILL suffer damage. You might get away with slapping a knife out of the way or a long thin blade thanks to leverage but anything larger and heavier I wouldn't bet on.
      3) As long as you can hit with it it can act as a weapon. The harder and heavier the more damage!

    Hey man! I'm a big fan of your work, I'm enjoying this series especially. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents when it comes to lightsabers for self-defense; I sometimes carry a lightsaber for self-defense, particularly when I can't bring a gun or a knife. Instead of using it with the blade attached, I would primarily just use it a heavy flashlight doing a flash-bash-dash. It works similarly to using a Mag-Lite for self defense, only better since lightsabers are ergonomic and made of metal. I even have 2 screws on the emitter in order to help direct the force onto a smaller surface area.

    Near as I can tell a polycarbonate lightsaber blade is at least as good (or bad) for self defense as is a shinai (bamboo sword for those not in the know).
    With both you will know that you’ve been hit but unless you get hit in a particularly sensitive area like the eyes, throat, kidneys or groin, you’re still in the fight. What you said about adrenaline is absolutely correct- people have not even noticed gunshot wounds thanks to adrenaline, not to mention people fighting despite what should be instantly lethal wounds while under the influence of certain, uh, “chemical enhancements”.
    If nothing else you could use it in stabby mode to keep an attacker at bay. People as a general rule are more averse to being firmly poked than hit.
    I’m pretty sure you have a shinai or three- how about a followup comparing one against a lightsaber used on the same kinds of targets?

    • @alexhammond5002
      @alexhammond5002 Před 3 měsíci +2

      Actually I think stabby mode could be surprisingly effective as you are applying the impact force along the column of the blade where it would be strongest

    • @shawnwolf5961

      I mean if you break someone's nose, a lot of the time that is enough to make them back off. Sometimes breaking a nose can even blind someone as it causes the muscles around the bottom of the eyes to swell up--I've seen it happen. So don't sleep on a solid strike to the nose.
      If you're trying not to be lethal, you have to be careful about this, but then again why should anyone give a shit about being non-lethal to someone attacking them in the first place?
