  • Being the parent of a child with life-threatening food allergies can be challenging. The following video series provide parents’ views on life with a food allergy (PART 1) the many faces of anaphylaxis (PART 2) and lessons learned and advice (PART 3). These videos provide helpful information for anyone who knows or cares for someone living with food allergy.
These videos are one of the outcomes of a Master in Nursing research study that explored parents’ thoughts and experiences with epinephrine auto-injector use for their child’s anaphylactic reaction. Parents described multiple life challenges and feelings of isolation, anxiety, hesitation and guilt. The study highlighted the need for parents to have the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage these life threatening reactions.
Our goal is that these videos will help educate, support, and guide other caregivers, but can also extend beyond caregivers as a useful teaching tool for allergy organizations, healthcare providers, schools and the community.
These videos were developed by Rishma Chooniedass and Saiful Huq from University of Manitoba. We thank the families for sharing their stories and their valuable insights. The information provided is general and not designed for a specific child. It is not meant to replace medical care. Please consult your child’s doctor for specific advice.
