Midst is an audio drama in which three mischievous narrators spin a surreal, reality-bending, sci-fantasy, space western about a crotchety outlaw, a struggling cultist, and a diabolical bastard making awful decisions in a world on the edge of disaster.
Some themes and situations that occur in-show may be difficult for some to handle. If certain episodes or scenes become uncomfortable, we strongly suggest taking a break or skipping that particular episode.

The more I see Imelda the more Im convinced that she is the true villain of the story.
I mean, yes. As people said, they loathed Umbridge because she was the believable villain (as opposed to Voldemort the fictional villain.)
That being said, she’s more a symptom of the beaurocratic horror villain Third Person talked about in the Season 1 roundtable.
I know! This is the part in the story that seems the villains win...which I hope at the end they die horribly lol
She had something to do with the moon.
I think the military-industrial-religious-capitalist complex is the villain, and Imelda is its representative.
I've thought that sense the start
Xen's voice for Weepe is still my favorite part of this series.
It’s iconic
Well that's a mighty fine compliment to give a fellow there friend and I admit I'll have to heartily agree with you, his dialogue and the performance given are just excellent
Well sure there buddy, I do appreciate how you wrote that there comment and uh, yup I heard it in Moc's voice, it is kind of addicting *hmm hmm hmmm*
I was just gaslit into knowing what a bocular horse is and i can't stop laughing about it
All I can imagine is just...some steampunk-esque old-fashioned automobile.
It’s incredible that they take someone like Weepe who returned people to slavery for money and make you feel sympathetic for him as he is initially showed to still be human (caring about those stuck on Midst) and they make you worried for him as Imelda obviously has something nefarious planned. Then over the course of the episode Weepe realizes he has what he’s always wanted and loses that last bit of humanity as he embraces getting mani pedi. Truly amazing on the part of Third Person.
"What it taste like? " Is the best line, he as no idea of what it is.. and he just embrace his new statut!
The bocular horse being "exactly what you're thinking of" is such a fun advice.
Weepe saying "medi pedi" is kinda cute
This episode made me more worried about him, that about anyone in midst under the terrors...
[moc weepe voice] _i go to the nail salon. i eat the mani pedis._
_Mmmm now these_ [crunching sounds as he eats a crystal nail file] _these truly are delicious Imelda_ [crunch crunch crunch]
Seems like Imelda is fattening up her scapegoat…
I love how this series can go from an episode of Literal infinite batshit crazy horror straight into an episode of “Mr. Weepe goes to the day spa” and I can equally love both of them.
Weepe is currently experiencing the biggest culture shock I can imagine on top of the trauma of everything that just happened on Midst.
I'm so curious to see more of the Light and the Trust society through his eyes.
Its kind of interesting to remember the first instance when Weepe met Imelda and they had achieve other in a polite death grip walking down Stationary Hill, with Weepe realising he could manipulate to his advantage, and now Imelda has Weepe absorbed into the Un society and she’s dragging him out for brunch with a side of gaslighting. Its been a wild ride.
I love a good Manni-Pedi with a side of Fries.
Big Trust is always watching.....
And this is one of the most terrifying forms of "internship" I have ever heard of. The "interns" mostly anxious to be "interned". The whole society devoted to producing a bizarre lie that everything is fair and that the upper crust is somehow benevolent and not taking advantage.
:Singing: End stage capitalism!
@@kinipayla5967 yeah, the realization that this is us is even more terrifying
There is no Tearror in Ba Sing Se
How do they always make it so intense, even for a spa day?
15:52 I swear... I thought that the woman with the fluffy hat was invisible.
This whole episode had the feeling of an impending "And then the other shoe dropped". Like as the highest upper trust native to midst he's the scapegoat or something. There's obviously a reason Imelda bothered saving him, and is spending so much time with him during a crisis of finance.
On another note, the idea of a bevy of similar notaries as Imelda having their own little group is terrifying.
My theory is he’s the new future big guy with Imelda as the puppet master
Oh I'm absolutely waiting for the catch. The fine print. The one stipulation that's gonna turn this place from a paradise (for some) to reveal the horror show that it is. I don't know what that'll look like but I'm so excited
My favorite episode of many very happy episodes so far. The quiet panic of not knowing how your surroundings work, and that somehow through your own actions, with an inordinate amount of luck, everything seems to be going your way… there is a wonderful, subtle wrong-ness about everything.
Also the ding AWHOOGA made me laugh
Listening to this series is like being alone in a room with homelander monologging to you. You never know if, when, or even why, things would go off. (Or even how....)
Moc "What is a brunch" Weepe, everybody!
(SOMEONE SAVE HIM--)
I feel like I should hate Weepe for what he did to Saskia and the people of the Cabaret, and rejoice that Imelda is probably going to betray him and ruin his life in a very karmically fulfilling way. Yet, at the moment, all I feel is dread for whatever it is she plans to do with him.
I think I can be confident in stating that while we'd like to see Weepe receive consequences for his actions, we'd rather those consequences not profit Imelda in the process.
@@Landis963 Precisely.
oh moc you in danger girl.
You'd think a career con-man would sense if someone was looking at him and seeing a mark...
@@NinjaDeathSlap I mean, we thought that Atticus concord
Wait, so anyone who's in dept to the trust because they don't have enough "good people currency" are slaves? Or indentured servants? OH GOD
Yeah, that's what drove Phineas bonkers enough to near-murder Sherman. He's the Charlie Brown Lucy's been taking the football away from too many times and snapped.
@@MigolcowCoupled with the fact that he *should* be free for his heroics rescuing the kid, but they chalk it up to "fluctuating market". But we all know it's just easier to control people who are financially and "spiritually" enslaved. Phineas is in like the third highest position of power that we've seen so far, once step below sphar who has a golden freaking statue, and he's still a slave... im surprised he didn't snap sooner.
The track behind Imelda's assertion that general society need not know about Midst, the goal being to maintain the status quo and that all will fall into place, has this hypnotic quality to it. That if we just let it lull us into this false calm, we might be at peace too. Shivers I say shivers!
Also that last line! “What does [a mani-pedi] taste like?” is such a genius bit of comedy, and illustrates further how out of depth Weepe is. Well done!
I love how their valor is woven into the fashion
Season 2 preview: ... What is a boccular horse?
This episode: let's describe a boccular horse for you. Nah, you already know, you got it.
I love the play you do. It's amazing.
I'm still so amazed about the level of detail in these episodes ... even something as simple as describing "a piano, but glassier" made me immediately think of an armonica, which absolutely fits in the atmosphere of the Trust!
I definitely noticed that bureaucratic-horror at play here. I’m wondering if Weep has the potential to become a hero or if he’s merely a protagonist by proxy of story perspective.
Cosiidering that at the beginning of S2 we see Imelda about to enter a room full of Upper Trust people and "there is a monster behind her" before she opens the door for them to enter.......im a little afraid of what this could mean for Weepe
Hopefully he doesn't foeget to take his medicine😰
I feel like weepe is the obvious answer for who "the monster" is? but also I feel like it could be Phineas Thatch too, if he does something in this season to dig himself even further into the ground (and debt to the trust). We'll find out!
That sly mention of Weepe's circadian rhythms was probably no idle reference.
Man, there's something gut wrenching in seeing all that extravagance meanwhile people on Stationary Hill are being mutilated and mutated by the fold.
I really like many ways y'all can use the trickling bead(?) Sound effect. Mica hitting a window. UN crawling through the air. Beads in the machine. Calculating conversion rates.
30mins?? Ikr? They are spoiling us..lol
I just wanted to say thank you for not over explaining. I mean everyone is obviously clear on what a bocular horse is. I mean it would have been like beating a dead bocular horse. Proverbial obviously.
I love how they described the upper trust and how weep didnt really enjoy the high class strange food he was being served
Brunch? What's brunch? - The worry is so good!
this episode is one of the best so far! so haunting, so splendid, so well produced!!!
So it seems that Utopian Capital in the UN - has a pretty big issue…
One that most utopias suffer from…
The inhabitants
The Bocular Horse, to me, is that weird golden car Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka drives through that one lab maybe 50 feet and never uses again.
This whole episode felt like "there is no war in ba sing ce"😁
Now the image of Moc Weepe in bathrobe and slippers is in my head... Not sure that I like it, but it is certainly funny.😅
I 100% thought one of the background characters was headless. Took me five minutes to realize it was a veil.
Thank you for this , l hope you know how much you help some of us in situations... this helps me on my subway commute. I close my eyes , put this on and l dont see the homeless , the muggings , the panhandlers , the people shooting up... thank you.
God I hate to see a girlboss winning (he is in danger help him)
There is a huge amount of gaslighting and gate keeping from her, that’s for damn sure.
Girl boss (around people with kynum) gate keep (the value of valour high) gas light (the way for the trust's future)
I want Weeps to have a cold crashing reckoning, screw that guy.
I would like this comment but it has 69 likes so have this comment instead
This whole series, this whole project... Genius! Thank you! Loving it!
Moc Weepe? Mor like Moc Drip. My mans looks cold af in that chain
Ah, brunch with the lotus eaters.
Something about the repeated “what’s… brunch?” Is hilarious to me
The narration? On point. Illustrations? Amazing, the artists are doing such a good job. Weepe? In distress. Love the story so far
"The highest light" would absolutely taste like a mani pedi hahahahahahahahahahahqhwhq
I remember this episode when it was on the podcast version (before critical role scooped them up) and thinking, "Well, Weepe is now trapped in his own personal hell... and I feel bad for him? Why do I feel bad for him?"
Well, now I'm caught up with Critical Role AND Midst. I think the next thing for me to binge is Dimension 20.
Absolutely, do it. It's SO good.
They're fun, but just know a lot is paywalled behind their dropout service.
"There is no Tearror in Midst...there is no Tearror in Midst..."
This woman makes me SO uneasy.
"What's brunch"
I love this show so friggin much!!!
Is it Wednesday yet?
It _is_ Wednesday,
My dude.
@@EchoesFromCorn I think our friend is saying they want the next episode already haha. You know, like how each critical role episode ends with "Is it Thursday yet?"
@@kinlerj i know that dude
I was referencing the Wednesday meme from jummyhere

Hey guys look! Capitalism, but the quiet part is not just said out loud but worn as jewellery.
This show is so massively underrated. Criminal.
My god the whiplash from the last episode to this
Ungf, I subbed for the podcast, yet still come here to listen all over again, and I'll reveal no spoilers, but damn am I addicted to Midst! I can't wAit to see the reactions to the next episode after this one. Is it next Wednesday yet???
Time to build a campaign in the Fold!
I don't buy the official line on Weepe's substantially reduced abacus for a second. ("Official" here meaning "emerging from Emilda Goldfinch's mouth like a moth from the chrysalis") Thinking back to the Loxley Gala alone should demonstrate why denomination size is a flimsy smokescreen to employ.
Weep getting his just reward
Can't wait to see the cost of all this.
30 minutes??? Is it my birthday??
So it's confirmed then, the bocklyer horse, looks and acts exectly like the wannka Mobil from the classic willy wannka movie with I believe Jean Hackman. Including covering its occupants with foam and or cream.
This is true and 100% cannon
I mean clearly.
My version is something like a Theo Jansen sculpture crossed with an old trolley car.
21:41 So The Trust is Capitalism only in this world it says all the quiet parts out loud...
Valor is Wealth, but it's not Money, because it can't be spent on anything. It doesn't need to be. Those who already have it want for nothing because the act of having it motivates others who don't have it to serve them in the hopes that one day they might have it too. It only exists to accrue.
Caenum is Debt, and just like in real Capitalism Debt is a feature not a bug. Those who have it are exploited for their labour while being strung along by a vague promise that if they work hard and don't question the system then one day they might be Valorous themselves and reap the rewards... only if that actually held true for most people the system would collapse without enough labour to support the Bourgoisie. Some limited social mobility may exist, but only as much as the already-Valourous feel like they have to allow to keep the rest of the Proletariat believeing that the system is fair.
...
You know on balance, I think I'd like to go back to the Tearror Cave from last week. This is much scarier.
It’s all of that, but with the added horror that they’ve wrapped their system up in religious symbology and doctrine.
@@willcaster819this plus this indeed!

10:51 Quick poll here: What's everyone's basic conception of a bocular horse? I'll go first: I'm picturing a carriage - not unlike a Victorian horse-and-buggy, albeit without the horse, and, of course, articulated legs instead of wheels. Naturally the ostentation and ornateness of the carriage would scale up with social status.
Bocular Horses are quantum probability engines that only take form once observed... and take a slightly different form for each observer.
The bocular horse is a bocular horse. Everyone already knows what it looks. And everyone already knew what it what it looked like even before they knew it existed.
I always imagine a horse with six legs and binoculars
I was of similar mind
I had a similar thought on the legs, but a bit bigger in the seating area (although I could have missed a detail there). Sort of a fancy trolly car with big legs like a Theo Jansen sculpture (the ones that "walk" on the beach when pushed by the wind).
Wh-Wha- What is a bocular horse???????
It’s a bocular horse. Obviously. Why would you ask such a silly question? Everyone knows what a bocular horse is.
think of a horse. make it bocular
So you know horses, right? Think of that, but now think if horses also came from a bocs. Whatever it is, it can happen. Like a bocular horse. Easy.
It's just a bocular horse dude don't think so hard about it, we all know what they look like
Mr Weepe is looking absolutely fantastic in the artwork.
Weepe's drip is immaculate.
didn't know i needed suave weepe till now. art and story amazing as always
I don’t know if you guys do merch but I kind of want a “my other car is a bocular (sp?) horse” bumper sticker.
It’s the sock garters for me ❤
Omg it's 30 mins 🎉
This was the scariest episode yet...
What a revelation, such astute and compelling story telling served with a surgical skill that could cut out your heart without drawing a single drop of blood
Duuudes Season 2is such a banger! Midst is now that weekly thing i look forward to the most
Weepe *needs* to keep that fit, fuckin look at him! Actual pimp.
Sooo I’m rewatching Midst. And now I wonder if trustees think Moc Weepe is like a physical embodiment of valor. Random thought
I love the mix of humor and drama oh wow. And what a wonderful look into the society of the Upper Trust!! >:OO
Okay... GENIUS! Still getting caught up con this series. But Seriously, you guys, just GENIUS.
Sooo good. I thought season 1 was cool. This is feaking amazing.
11:36 Why is Phineas' anxiety music playing?
Awesome as all ways!
"..What is brunch"
I wish I knew, Weepe, I wish I knew! I am guessing second breakfast, though
It's far enough in the past that it's easy to forget about all the horrible things our mysterious narrators said Weepe *wouldn't* go through if he *didn't* encounter Imelda that day. This episode feels like subtle reminder. Anyone else kinda hope Weepe will also find a way to drag the Trust down with him?
"Mockweepe is in a bathrobe" is a really jarring way to start this episode considering the last episode
It wasn't till the last line that I realized that this was very much our current society
For the record, the bocular horse in my head cannon is a pair of chicken walker legs from 40k. You've done this to me. This is your fault.
oh Weepe is FOR SURE the monster. Probably couldn’t take his meds and Imelda took advantage. When the Upper Trust is dead, she has full control and can do an evil plan or something???? i don’t know her endgame, which is probably an intentional choice.
Great story, narration, artwork, and immersion. Thank you! I hope some of these characters get a bit of branched off origin story. 🙂
The “we don’t have prisons” talk gives me “corrupted restorative justice” vibes. I don’t like it.
Meanwhile, the chimes and bells at @23:35 are giving me “There is no war outside Ba Sing Sei” discomfort.
21:01 slavery?
Slavery with a nice little capitalist mask over it.
I think they'd prefer to call it indentured servitude.
Captain Noemie Laporte, is that you? I just realized...
Sooo literally indentured servitude that they will never fully get out of and keeping the populace in ignorance. This is getting so dystopian and I dislike Imelda immensely. But this story is soooo good.
Totally feeling that weeb is going to be the fall guy. Why else go so far to save him
where's the woman's on the right's head????
Underneath her veil?
oh it is a veil! I completely missed that. It looks like she's just missing her head! XD
I saw that too, and it's not that she has a veil, you can see through the veil to the necklace on the other side. Some kind of automaton?
@@Migolcow her skin color makes her look invisible, and she's got a double necklace! But man does it take some looking to figure that out..
@@Migolcow What about that makes you think automaton? I’m genuinely curious, because I just don’t see it. I’m pretty sure it’s just a woman facing away from us with a Valor necklace.
"The Highest Light?" Oof, pretentious. Wonder how long it takes to make a hell of this heaven...
Edit: Wow, yeah, Weepe looks SLICK in the new threads. Imelda's sleeves look... very poofy. Wow.
This entire episode was an anxiety ride. Like a beautiful ripe grape on the edge of popping. 😅 I find it odd that they ate a sugar coated carnation as a florist. Interesting. A flower vegan society? Better that than human meat that the vibe gives me. 😂
✌
Huh. Interesting... Does the Un not have any meat or animal products? Seems like everything is all greenery this, salad that, when we've seen meats back on Midst and such. Very curious if it's not even remotely worth the effort to have that here in the Un... or maybe greens are seen as more upper class because there's very little usable land to grow crops.
Also the fact that she said that Sherman got all the medical help he 'needed' makes me very uncomfortable. In the eyes of the trust, the amount of help he needed might not have been much, and he's likely still injured somewhere.
Imelda is Umbridge 2.0
