Clara was the best written and acted companion ever. It was the first time on TV that I could really see two people having deep unconditional love for eachother without all that typically cheap tv romance crap. Clearly the best work of the modern show. But I think what I like most about their journey is how much of a significant impact another person can have on your soul. Capaldis portrayal of the doctors change is beyond fantastic and has never been reached since.. no shade to the other actors, they were also fantastic.
Having rewatched the season and revisiting this I think 2:03 might be one of the alltime top gold moments in the whole series: Clara : Then why are you helping me? The Doctor : Why? Do you think that I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference? It's such a great moment of exactly what I described in my original comment.
Doctor:"You can't see me can't you?, you look at me, and you can't see me... Do you have any idea what is like?" *FEW EPISODES LATER* Also The Doctor: "If i met her again, i would absolutely know" *Her literally standing right in front of him* ------------------------------- Doctor: "Clara, I'm not your boyfriend..." Clara: "I never thought you were…" Doctor: "I haven't said it was your mistake..." *THE SILENCE IS SO LOUD*
That was 24 episodes later - "You can't see me" was the first episode of s8, "If I met her again, I would absolutely know" was the last episode of s9. And I agree, that was a truly exquisite bit of writing.
Here I am, year after year, being 52 years old myself now... remembering the start of this duo and having Niagara falls in my eyes. After Matt and Jenna's chemistry I never thought that with Capaldi they would hit the jackpot... But of course they did. #12's feelings for Clara get to be something so deep, that when Me makes her mistake, from that deepness comes also - along with the feeling of loss - the silent rage with "You'll find that it's a very small universe WHEN I AM ANGRY WITH YOU!". That she learned not to just look at him as an incredible friend, but to acknowledge that he is a time lord who has lived on after losing so much. And to respect that. Fantastic video.
I love this undefineable love between 12 and Clara. Not all forms of 'unusual' love can be defined or are immoral. The best I can come up with is rhe the word bond. They had a phenomenal bond that became too strong to endure but what a special thing it was whilst it lasted., I wish this era of DW was not fictional as there was so much beauty in this Doctor-companion relationship. The depth of these two imo is the strongest in the entire of DW history and I loved it.
