My brother RIP had one of these 510's dad put a supercharger from a diesel tractor on it. It hauled ass ! Red in color. I miss them both dearly !

The car looks so clean. The wide body was done just right. Many a 510 has been made into a 300 hp death trap but this one is many levels above that. Thanks /Drive for sharing this. And the video opens with such a great vibe.

@@samjericho5026 The P510 was designed by Datsun/Nissan's inhouse designer Teruo Uchino, the predecessor of the 510, the 410 (ugly as it was!) was a Pininfarina design. My very first car was a 69" Datsun 510 with 13 inch deep dish rims with big flairs and it really catches your eyes on the road. It was back in 1985 and I was 19 years old. I bought it for $1000 plus $20 extra for batteries because the owner didn't have any battery in the car. He took a battery from another car then he put it my car. Then I spent another $1000 for body work and painted it red which was called: INDIAN RED which was super bright and it really caught people's attention! It was a 2 door with 4 speed, 1595cc, and I did my personal touch with Alpine stereo with all kinds of cool interior decoration and people loved it! I miss it so much!

yeah. I actually traded it in got a 75" Toyota Corollla SR5 instead and also spent some money to make a change. I missed that car too. It had black Enkei rims with chrome lips and I had completely white it out.

Didn't notice that fenders had been widened until shown in the video; that means it was done really well in my opinion. This is the coolest 510 I've ever seen. Sweet car!

That paint kind of absorbs the lines too, so in not so good lighting you can't pick out the curves.
Tires are way too wide not to widen the fenders.

This guy LITERALLY has built one of my dream builds. He actually has about 3 of my dream build from what I saw. I figured you could get very close to 50/50 weight balance with this kind of setup and he proved that theory right... GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS!!! I may or may not be crying.

510's were my first cars I truly enjoyed & built up, did some Autocross racing at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium in ghe mid 80's ! They were considered old cars even then, lol.
I recall a fine spring day in 1984 when about a dozen 510 fellows and I drove all Saturday making a high speed circuit N to Idyllwild / Palm Springs / Borrego Springs back thru Campo / Alpine. Our pack of buzzing 510s was a sight to behold. What a fun memory!

I had a tricked out 510 2 door, in the last 1970s...did all the work myself. Super fun. Tough engine. Should have never sold it.

The beautiful simplicity and elegant contours of these cars are timeless. I had a 74' Corolla wagon in high school and miss it more each time I buy another vehicle. Something about the drive centric design,the lack of distractions always made driving exciting 😎

Looks like some kinda roll bar mount go pro sells. Just used some extensions to get it low and in front of his face. Could be wrong but that car does have a cage.

OH Man thank you for this road test . Worked at Datsun as a tech Built a lot of 510,s and led to high 9,s low 10s in the quarter mile. With the FIA. suspension, the car does not kick in the turns. One piece strut, angle of spindle to strut. Look at Bre's FIA alignment spec's. Go cart on steroids, thank's again Joe.
Very cool 510; I've got to say that it's so fun to watch these videos Matt or regular people doing awesome things to ordinary cars. The swag was def dialed way up on this Datsun!

Unfortunately, Matt wasn't able to really air out that car. As I'm sure he would attest, that unassuming little car is an absolute monster in sheep's clothing. I've owned 510s most of my life, and still have one in my garage today with an SR20det, GT3071r @ 15psi, and Troy Ermish built race suspension. I've driven everything from a GT500 Mustang, BMW M5, Acura NSX, to a Tesla Roadster S, and I'd still take my 510 over any of them. Tuned right, the 40 year old suspension can hold it's own against a Miata, but with 400HP in a car weighing 2000lbs, you have a serious pocket rocket. To be honest, anything over 270HP in a 510 is tire smoke, but let's face it, sometimes too much is just what you need.
For real my dad swapped a z24 dual spark Nissan engine (Webber carb) and it has less than 120 hp and it spins the wheels all the way to third gear 😂 like dang tires need to be wider to get a grip

Best car ever! I have built many many of these cars, 4 doors, wagons, and insane coops! The mods one can do to this car are Unlimited for the most part. I like the fact that you can swap Factory parts from late model cars into this amazing little box. For instant, rear disc brake conversion adopted from the 200SX. The rear diff out of an all-wheel drive Subaru. The list goes on and on. it has been some time since I've been behind the wheel of a dime. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video!

No one I know really understands how much I would fucking kill to have a garage. Ever since I was a fucking child I've wanted to build an e30 from the ground up, or even an rx-7 (FD). My first car currently is a '11 Infiniti g37xS, with the money my parents and I put towards this car I could be driving my dream vehicle, such a shame we are bound by limitations, mine being a fucking garage.
Keep working toward it and you'll get there.

When I was a kid I loved these cars. Still do. But I was the guy with the Camaro while everyone in the heights had 510s and corollas. Let’s not forget the z cars. Still have the Camaro blood in my veins but the 510 has a special place in my heart and soul! I remember everyone would flare the fenders out, put a crazy audio system in, sick paint and interior. But the exhaust note was always my favorite. I would run to my apartment window every time I heard the cars race up at Nicholas Avenue. Try to catch a glimpse of which one it was. Then I turned 16 and bought a 1973 Camaro with side pipes and headers. I officially joined the game. Wish I could do it again .

Truthfully, CZcams just needs to give their hard working channels a bigger cut in the revenue, that genuinely would solve everyone's problems. Google is the real greedy entity in this whole thing, not Drive, Drive just want money to pay for expensive videos.
SpyderRios I just wrote in my last comment how CZcams takes to big a cut from ad revenue. They take 60%, which is insane. Then there's the huge quantity of assholes who get adblock. Ad revenue is fine for people like fast lane daily who do low budget car shows with very little expense. Drive is very expensive to produce, they need more money than someone like Pewdiepie, who may have 30 something million subscribers but he only needs a mic, a computer and a camera and he's pretty much good to go. Cars are very expensive.

Thats really amazing never thought you can get more power out of an late century car. Well i also love the Datsun coz it is strong and you can do any thing with it, thinking of rebuilding one for maself...cheers and Matt keep up the good spirit of showing us all those cars out there also letting the owners share with us their stories abut their ride
Farah is wrong, 510 as almost all Datsuns have hydraulic clutch as standard (unless his talking about new systems), but no way to tell from this video was it converted in this car because of this modification.
I was about to say the same thing and add to that, why would anyone let Farah thrash their car?
Look at the firewall it has two master cylinder reservoirs one for the brakes the other for the hydraulic clutch.

I know this is 2 years ago but what I think he means is there is no servo assistance.
Servo =/= Hydraulic
Basically means there is no force amplification from your foot and force multiplication factors aren't at work
