I have to say I believe these guys were truly anointed by the Holy Spirit. Their lyrics were totally scriptural and their melodies were most tasteful and tuneful.

I saw them once live. There is no doubt in my mind that the Spirit was there. It was like worship not a concert.

As a baby Christian I attended one of their many concerts in Houston TX, It blew my mind! It was The Holy Spirit that took over and their songs touched the entire audience. It gave me joy, peace, renewal. It fulfilled me. And it convicted me. It was when they sung Judas Kiss that my body, soul and spirit surrendered to His will and His plan for me was put in motion. Now I have a ministry for the Homeless. Is my calling. Is my life! Thank you Petra! God continue to Bless you! .
This just has something that contemporary worship music can’t touch. I am glad I get to experience this incredible music even though I didn’t get to grow up with it.

I have been listening to PETRA ever since their More Power To Ya album hit the air waves. WOW ! Petra "IS" not "WAS" still a truly GREAT assembly of musical talent to listen to. Petra ushered in an entirely new style of music for faithful Christians. Ground breaking in their efforts with musical talent that only God can bestow on people is how I would describe them. Their song list is extensive and spanned decades. I am glad to say that there is not a single song of theirs that I am not familiar with. I have all of them. I Thank God for that wonderful group of musicians known as PETRA for they helped me Greatly throughout my adult life. Their music still ministers to people such as myself. Forever Thankful !

I feel like same and have listened to them got a long time and stopped. I dont know why I stopped, but I'm so...i grateful to my oldest son for listening to the Holy Spirit and played them for me when i didn't want to hear it, and i haven't stopped since and it's helped tremendously and so so blessed everyday thank you Heavenly Father for anointing this band throughout its spiritual journey with you and taking us with them, thank you Jesus amen. Growing up in California, I am grateful for KFIA as I was growing up. It is so easy for God to find a way.
In about 1997 or so, I saw Sixpence None The Richer in concert and they
started playing this song, and there was a collective intake of breath
from the crowd when the intro started playing because a bunch of us
instantly recognized it.
Still to this day my favorite song of all time and probably one of the greatest songs ever written.

This song reminds me of book Pilgrim's Progress. Thanks for uploading and thanks for your cool handle, UnknownPetraFan! I feel like its too bad that KLOVE can't even have a weekend show where music from the past is highlighed. Church has done very well in overcoming segregation on Sundays but the old AGE divide is tougher! I love great new stuff I'm hearing but its good to know some long hair guys who looked 70's had same Jesus I do, though I was an 80's Christian!

My #1 Petra song ever since I heard it in the early 1980s.
I saw EVA O sing this song at the Lizard Lounge in Dallas, TX on "church" night aka goth night. I was backsliding and didn't expect the Queen of Goth, to be plating that night, much less that she would be playing a Christian song! I was stunned to say the least. God found me in the pit of hell and said I'm still here.

I sang this for my church many years ago. The gift of the experience was learning the lyrics and taking them into my heart. Now, as I face death, I have peace and happiness in my heart. I can always bring this song into my mind, no matter what I face. I will know in my last moments, "where there's a shadow there's a light."

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. This past Sunday (July 6), we sang Come to Me, All Pilgrims Thirsty as our Hymn of the Day. It is #777 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship in the Trust, Guidance section. The lyrics are by Delores Dufner, OSB. The tune is to BEACH SPRING, from The Sacred Harp, Philadelphia, 1844; arr. I was raised Christian but now I'm Pagan. However, Petra had some awesome songs; well crafted and performed and with deep theological content. I didn't realize how talented these guys were back in the day...

A Variation on 'Wayfaring Stranger' both in theme and melodic structure. A lot of people miss this, but it's basically the same song melodically with just a few chords changed.
Wayfaring has not the same lyrical depth, chordal interest, nor variety or sonic textures.

I appreciate the perspective on this, however the only theology that is important to the listener is what motivates one to approach God in earnest. Christ is faithful to save.

I carn hardly believe that a Christian rock group would sing a song like this! I'm not fussing and I know very little about tha kind of music. But it just seems too soothing to be that kind of mjusic. It could put someone to sleep tshat might have sleepling problems.

@fenstemakeram08 Christian music in all generations is really really great BUT it is NEVER a substitute for a relationship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit to the Father in His Word. Read your Bibles and pray. I want to hear "well done, good and faithful servant, enter in to the joy your Father has prepared for you" NOT "depart from me, I never knew you". Study, its not a burden, its a blessing! God bless you all!

It's a hauntingly beautiful tune. But absolutely terrible--or even meaningless--soteriology. Who cares about the road to Zion (Jerusalem)? The way to the Father is through the Son. The song hints to this. "Joy is Who is waiting at the end." The Son will be given the throne in Zion some day. This road is mapped out in the scriptures. This road will be paved out in human history future. As for the heart, well, as Paul told the Ephesians, may He dwell in your hearts by faith.

I don't realy like songs that never mention jesus, his power, his care, his redemption , and calvary's cross and blood and love for lost sinners and saints. Everything that was created by him is for HIS glory
Well, there should be a distinction made between praise and worship music and other Christian songs. That being said, I still think it's important to have music to uplift and encourage fellow believers.
Check out a traditional hymnal...you will find all those kinds of songs/hymns in there.
