WOW!!! I have never had to block SO many people and delete SO many outright nasty Comments before on a single CZcams Video as much as this one!!! LOL...
So before you start hating on me in the comments! Remember These 3 Things :)
A) It's just a camera
B) It's Just a CZcams Video
C) Your Nasty Comments are Only But a Reflection On Yourself
Peace :)
I don't think they are hating on you, they are voicing their clear frustration with Leica who are still milking people's hard-earned money on this silly outdated camera
@@xStormzZxHD You didn't see the comments!!! LOL
It’s just the LX100 MkII / D-Lux 7 reskinned, isn’t it?
Yes, but it's got a couple of improvements ... OLED EVF, higher resolution LCD, cleaner interface, etc.
Hi hope in a waaaaaay better AF because the D-Lux7 it’s my every day carrier and the only problem IMHO it a very slow and not good at all AF, the price, as always it’s too much..
Nothing new here. And twice the price of the near-identical lx100ii.
@@cameraz99 marginal at best I think. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty camera but I think releasing a camera with tech from that far back doesn’t really say that they innovated on anything. That’s why I’m not sure why Grant was saying that this is the camera he was hoping for. While it’s not the camera for me, at least the Panasonic S9 has some new ideas.
@@donovanchin -- I don't find the S9 appealing, with the exception of its FF sensor. The lack of an EVF is a deal-killer for me. Plus I don't want to go out and buy a bunch of L-mount lenses. The Pan/Leica twins were very good cameras when they came out, and are still good ... even with "marginal" tweeks.
YES! GX-9 mkii!!!!!! (25mpx,pdaf)!!!!
Would love a GX9 with the GX8 viewfinder. Call it GX9ii or GX10. Amateurs value the experience more than things like fps. I tried and loved the Fuji X100 because of the viewfinder
Agree Grant we all wanted an updated GX8 or GX9 from Pana but at least it seems Leica have done a great job updating their zoom compact range. Looks like a Q3 from the front
It's a bit of a shortcut release, but glad it exists!
Grant, I was thinking the exact same thing when I got the notification and was shocked! I’m probably also going to get it because I have always wanted a Leica.…😊
4k 43" monitors work very well for my works and vision. I have not intention to upgrade them to 8K for the next ten years unless they have problems. For my 4K monitors, my Panasonic GX85 can output photo in 3840*2160 which perfectly match my 4K monitors with best vision resolution of point to point that display the photo in most sharp image withou the blur from Image thumbnail,
Maybe a Lumix LX 100 Mark III will follow, we hope
That is my hope - not interested in paying the Leica tax for a Panasonic camera
@@lim2001burger Panasonic have made it clear that they are not interested in this market. Compacts are a specialised fringe interest and lucky Leica are continuing in it considering phones have gobbled this market up almost entirely. I think you will have to live with the Leica tax as turnover is tiny and margins inflated out of necessity. It is interesting how so few people have really come to terms with the reality that most volume manufacturers have left this market entirely.
The new Panasonic S9 seems to be more for 'content creators' aka video bloggers and similar rather than still photographers, hence the features included and the ones left out. I'd love to see an updated version of the LX100 with an interchangeable lens mount to take advantage of the m 4/3rds system's vast lens range but with some added features of the S9 & S5 mark II to bring it up to date and all in a small size. Like you I'd like to try out the S9 but by using the FF L mount means that the portability factor is somewhat reduced because of the size and weight of the L mount lenses. If only OMD Systems would bring out a updated Pen-F then that could be a winner.
Hopefully the stabilisation is better, the LX and D-Lux have lacked dedicated Video modes which would make these more compelling options for people who dabble with both video and photo, but the overall design of this new D-Lux looks more refined and a little sleeker. 👍🏽
Interesting Grant, the D-Lux 8 . Appears to be a Leica version of Panasonic's LX100mk2. Which I bought a couple of years ago when Panasonic had big discount on them. My thought was to sell my LX100Mk1. but after comparing it to the LX100Mk1 I decided to keep using the Mk1 and sell the Mk2.
The LX100m2 was a step-up in some technical regards but the LX100MK1 uses the GH4 sensor and engine which has a less-processed look and more of a Leica still look and colors than the LX100Mk2. To me the the Mk2 with the same sensor an engine as the GX8 looked like the GX8 images. but softer due to the processing to get the zoom lens distortion under control.
The lens on the D-lux 8 is the same as on my old LX100Mk1. It has Leica contrast and colors but also a LOT of spherical distortion and chromatic aberration, so you loose a lot of the punch with in-camera processing.
I was very disappointed with images from both LX100s using Lightroom. Many bash the LX100 for soft images, but Capture One processing it's a different camera. CP-1 brings out the Leicia look I loved from the GH2 and GH3.
The LX100 leica image circle does not quite fill the M4/3 sensor but with Capture One DNG Raw images, you can pull the full sensor and get nearly the entire image circle, ending up with about a 9.5mm or 19mm rather than 22mm equivalent lens.
LX100 has indeed been a beloved street shooter, I got the silver version LX100mk1 and people often take it for a point and shoot. A few times if people asked if I'm shooting video I've said "Oh, I shoot film". Using the phone app for candid photos and video with the LX100 is handy. for street candids, just leave it around your neck or off your side and shoot with the app..
Btw, 'UFO Festival McMinnville Oregon 2018 ' by Jack O on the 'Fli_kr' thing has sample CP-1 and LX100mk1 candids, and examples of the Capture One 'Leica' pop I never quite saw from the Mk2 or Lightroom
The LX100s are are not weather or dust sealed and my LX100mk2 got dust on the sensor when I used it in dusty conditions. The zoom lens is like a dust vacuum and the D-lux is likely the same. So I suggest you avoid exposing it to dust and rain.
Cleaning the sensor is not practical as the camera has to be completely disassembled. I bought a used LX100Mk2 with a dusty sensor for cheap thinking I could clean it, wrong! Lots of glued exterior parts, microscopic screws and ribbon connectors, and the lens-sensor looked like it was custom aligned at the factory so I stopped at before getting to the sensor. I tried extending the lens part way and using a vacuum cleaner to suck the dirt off the sensor, but sucked more dirt onto the sensor and inside the lens.
Not as durable or rugged other Panasonic interchangeable lens cameras either, and I would NOT risk a lot of money on an LX100 or Dulx-8. My LX-100s have been a pampered, occasionally use toys and B-cams .
Some test footage from the LX100mk1 I was playing around with. With the LX100mk1 in Resolve Studio like you can can ignore the file meta data and pull a bit more than 8-bits and recover shadow and highlight detail and more noise too and place it on a 12 bit timeline. Video was pretty much the same the Mk2 but mk2

great info mate, thanks for sharing :)
Hello and thanks for the video. Undoubtedly the design looks very beautiful. What I don't understand is what the difference is with Dlux 7 and Lumix LX100 2. You show great enthusiasm, but if the sensor is the same, the lens is the same and the focus is the same, non-tropicalization is the same... I find it difficult to find a reason to change it if not for a purely aesthetic factor. Leica put it up for pre-order without giving concrete specifications
Hopefully Panasonic will release an LX100iii, because that’s basically what this ‘new’ Leica camera is. What would also be awesome is if Panasonic turned the fixed f1.7-2.8 lens into a MFT version that we can use on our other Lumix cameras.
feels like panasonic and leica (solid partnership, especially with lenses) 'colluded':
"i (leica) will release the photo-leaning equivalent of the s9, while you (panasonic) go after vlogger/'not serious photographer' (no EVF, no hotshoe, etc.) crowd."
"so 4/3 with a leica premium and FF minus the leica premium at a similar/ballpark price?"
"deal!"
Compact cameras are coming back! I had my fair share of FF, M43, fujifilm cameras and currently own a x100v as my main camera. For me this is a really cool option. Since I realized I’m a point and shoot kind of photographer. Sure I can use my iPhone but where’s the fun in that. I was just on a family trip and wanted to use my x100v more but instead used my iPhone 15 pro instead because it had a wide and tele lens. The D-Lux 8 gives you the new leica menu and better WiFi connection to the fotos app. That’s all I really need. I like to share my photos right away and carry a usbc to SD cable with me. Also the evf is upgraded to the same specs as the RX100vii. Had that camera too and it was a good evf. Also the sensor is not the exact same. The D-Lux 7 has a MOS sensor while this is a CMOS sensor. So they definitely put a modern but same resolution sensor in there. I hoping that the processor and sensor combo improves the af. I already have on on preorder
We’re talking about a paragraph of specs. You might be right especially if there is some magic sauce baked into the app. I’m think there must be.
It's not the aspect ratio size of the 21MP sensor that makes it effectively 17MP, it's that this lens it means it's a smaller image circle, ie: it's always cropped, never using the full sensor size. For the size of the camera I would've loved a fixed focal length f/1.7 with APSC. Essentially making it a new X series.
Right - I thought It was something like that(ish)
This camera sounds promising. I am okay with non-interchangeable lens! My concern is the price because Leica isn't cheap but if it goes for $1,200-1500 USD range, it will be gold! The camera I am looking for is a modern Sony RX100 or Lumix LX10/100.
The DLUX8 is on my shopping list.
Mine Too!
Panasonic releasing a new m4/3 camera June 5th 2024. Seeing as the D-lux8 is out I expect a LX100iii to be released hopefully 😊
It sounded like the sensor and lens are the same as the D-Lux 7. I wonder if it will have IBIS.
What body would you recommend for primarily street photography with the voigtlander 17.5mm?
G100??
I love that lens. I have it on G9ii or GH6.
Frankly, I can't see this thing selling at $1500. Too much competition in that space. It might be compelling if it was an interchangeable lens camera.
Not necessarily, Leica has a huge cult following full of consumers that love to spend tons of money just to have Leica. I don't think they are trying to steal anyone away from other brands. Rather playing to their strengths(their customer) I have other photographers I work with that only use Leica and will rush out and drop a quick 7K on the newest camera body just because of the brand. Look at the Q3, $6k, fixed lens as well.
@@CookCaptures I understand the Leica loyalists, but the d-lux line isn’t exactly what the Leica purists are after. They are essentially reskinned Panasonic bodies, which generally reflects in their resale value.
GX9m2 or go ahead offering us GX10. Great voice. ❤
A nice olympus 12-45mm f4 pro with any olympus pen or similar panasonic bodies ... should give you one of the best travel setup for a lot less... with nice ibis. I really do want to like this leica and it appears to be a bit better than panasonic s9... but in the end does appear to be bit off ... and maybe it is better to just wait and watch.
Isn't that just a better looking LX100 ii? It's the same 5 year old sensor and lens.
YES
The lens is fine IMHO, but the sensor/AF and weather sealing should have been sorted.
As I understand it, the zoom mechanism is motorized and for me it is completely useless as it is extremely slow to operate. But a manual lens would have been very interesting.
I would have to agree!!! I'd rather manual too :)
GX9 (mark II)...now that would float my boat....but alas. I can make due with a pair of A7c (mark I ) bodies and and my venerable A7s for a bit more low light. Too bad OM and Panasonic seem to have shelved the M43 "range finder style" cameras for the near future....I have returned to my Sony FF gear and sold off all my M43 cameras and lenses in the interest of longevity and simplicity. (of course I do not do much video so that makes the change easier.). Cheers
I like the D-Lux 8 but I wouldn't spend the money on it. I still love Lumix but the S9 is a camera, I only would consider for 7 or 800 Euros as a second cam. I think the really good Lumix cams will come later and will rock again. I bought a mint GM5 and black GX8 today and I am so happy about that. I think my next new cam will be the G9II when the price drops. I love Lumix cams and I will stick to them. The only other cams I would consider are Leicas and that is fine because I am already in L-Mount.
Was fullframe worth sacrificing the hot shoe, unlimited shooting, headphone port, and EVF?
If you put in aps-c and got all that....
Yes!
dont worry dude, on 5th of june, they'll most probably announce lx100 mark iii or at least a g100 or gx9 mark ii. Since dlux 8 is just a skin and really doesn't compete close to what we have in market as options. X100VI, X-T50, S9...
Lumix GX9ii = YES Lumix S9 = NO
Christine from FRance
Didn't Panasonic announce a while back that they were getting out of producing small MFT cameras ? They are concentrating more on the S-Line...
Yes but the denial is still strong in the user base and many people are waiting for the usual upgrades on a regular basis as before.
I'll be curious to see the full specs on the camera. It could be a much better option that the S9.
This is just the D-Lux 7 I bought 8 YEARS AGO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Its just to cash in on people who want a camera to LOOK good. i wanted a new sensor, 4k uncropped , phase detect. not much to ask for after 8 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!
Except the mft sensor. Then again, Panasonic has invested in Leica, so they coordinated this. Leica has a cheaper camera for people to dip their toes in and Panasonic gets a full frame to take market share away from Fuji. All behind the scenes in the business world.
I also want GX10 or FF GX10, but I think it's hard to form opinion on S9 if you don't really use it.
I thought Panasonic were going to drop a Q rival with fixed waterproof body/lens. Something for us street photographers who don’t live in California.
Great! So you can get the Leica then.
Looking for a travel camera to replace my Panasonic GM1.. could this be the one?
Oui c est ce que je recherche changer mon Gm1 !!
But Gm1 I an hybride LDL7 is a compact
Lumix LX100 m2
Yes, and no. I mean lens and sensor are the same but we don’t know yet all the specs about processor and IQ software
You mean III? There’s already an LX100 II
Totally agree
We wanted to see lx100 iii with a flip screen
That dlux 8 looks more like a Leica q2 compared to how the dlux7/lx100 ii looked
Does this mean lx100 iii is happening?
All depends on the image quality.
Tamarkin Camera is saying it will be available in very limited quantities.
Should the -8 be weather sealed, it could easily be my EDC.
The Leica D-lux 8 looks great and the $1,595 USD price is not bad and you get the flash in the box too! Sorta an affordable Leica! and in a portable pocket size!
See LumixLX100 II.
I wish it was APSC at least
Come on, the lens, sensor, focus system and build quality are the same as the D-Lux 7 and LX100 ii - old tech! So, no GX9ii 25mp sensor or phase detect AF and it’ll still suck in dust like my old original LX100, I’m more than disappointed. This could have been my ideal camera and I’d have paid a lot for it.
I just thinking about S9 for who?
I’m just happy with my GX80 on the street with a 50mm (eqv) lens on it. And also really happy with the Leica 12-60mm zoom which is still not too bad for me on the streets if I want a wider angle. At 28 or 35mm (eqv) the lens length almost does not change and the brightness only decreases to about f/3.5.
May I’ll buy a 17mm TTartisan prime.
For anything else there is my S5 with the 24-105mm f/4 and the 35 and 50mm f/1.8 prime.
This concept of the S9 is maybe acceptable for me with a crop sensor camera. But a full frame with no evf???? No thanks.
I’m sure I’ll get to go in the Leica Boutique Budapest when I get a phone call to try it. After than who knows? May I’ll buy it.
Okay, hear me out. The new S9 with a Brightin Star 28mm pancake lens...
Okay hear me out
GM1 with 7Artisans ufo lens
@@OchaFauzan01, I have that lens and love it on my Fujifilm X-M1
This is a photo only camera… is not going to sell the way Panasonic needs to sell to gain market share. People want video first, photography is current and enthusiast niche.
I’m sure we’ll get the next GX9 eventually with the G9ii sensors but right now MFT is not the way to gain market share from the big brands
Too bad they didn’t make it a APS-C. Micro 4/3 is too small a sensor!
But you wanted a tilt screen...so get a skin for the gx-9
Peeps who like the D-Lux 8 were never ever in the market for a full-frame interchangeabl lens Panasonic camera -veeerrrry stretched comparison (rolls eyes)
The D lux 8 would have been even better with a mechanical zoom. The toggle electronic zoom needs to go away.
The Panasonic S9 is a complete misstep. Its a flawed full frame GM1. No hotshoe???? Baffling.
Ironically the only way one can get a LX camera is to get a Leica and at A$2605 (Leica's suggested retail) V's $1500 ~$2500 for a used one on eBay the Leica might, almost, sort of, if you look at the price tag sideways while squinting, be a bargain (also Lumix fan boy I may be but the Leica looks better)
1.7 in 4/3 is 3.4 don’t forget.
Yes :)
GX9 mark II, quick......!
I have the Panasonic LX100 first version, same sensor (I think) same lens, so this Leica do not add anything special to it except the look, its buttons and menus reduction (always a good thing) but allow you to slaughter 1500 us$, period. I could have been interested if there was real improvements, bigger sensor and viewfinder, update inside treatment, back screen etc.... The new Pana S9 shows they can place a full frame sensor into such a small box, Sony also proved it, but that S9 is a complete failure for a photographer, so sad. Definetly many are waiting for a real full frame into that kind of size.....Leica is always after creating opportunities to make money, this camera is nowhere new.
Is the Leica D-Lux 8 US$600 better than the Panasonic LX100 Mk II that was discontinued?
Got no idea :)
Well, it's the same price as the S9. If the D-Lux 8 is the camera you wanted anyways, just buy the D-Lux 8, problem solved.
So the Panasonic S9 should have been a reskinned m4/3 camera from 2018?
Slightly annoyed I ordered an S9 yesterday only to get this in my inbox today, and was really after an LX100 3... #annoyed
...and content creators don't need a full frame sensor, all their content gets downgraded as soon as it's posted and everyone has forgotten about it the next day.
... but a year ago I was an iPhone user looking for a camera that was 'iPhony'.... so maybe the S9 will work for me if I can live without a viewfinder.
Thats a reskinned lx100II again. A d-lux 7 with a q-like outside.
Yes, €1590,- here.
Dear Panasonic, we will be waiting for the GX9 II with a better EVF, weather sealing and the new PDAF sensor.
Thank you in advance. Love.
$1500?
You sound silly - Panasonic should have given us a $6,000.00 Leica for $1,500.00. And Panasonic lost its way? Click Bait.
1600 is closer.
Panasonic is LOST! This company is really dropping the ball with the compact camera market THEY practically invented. Where is the GX8/ GX9 style body? I have a lot of high quality M4/3 lenses that would find new life on that M4/3 25mp Phase Detect sensor. We waited years for P.D. AF only to get the large G9ii? Has Panasonic ever heard of the Fujifilm X100 VI?
Hey man!
Absolutely agree with you!
Nobody wants a micro 4/3 for 1600$ that looks like iPhone pictures, Panasonic released a full frame compact with LUTs, that camera will be a great success.
Is the IQ of this 2024 Leica better than my 2014 GM5?!? 😅
Dont Panic, it will come as a LX100iii :)
Panasonic are slowly moving away from MFT for photography that doesn't mean their lost ? Far from it.
The S-Line has been evolving and is a great success, the S9 will appeal to the market it's been made for.
Give me the S9 over the D Lux
Not the same category.
@@gergely_handoI understand but the op said that this is what we wanted
