Every time I see them together, I feel uncomfortable. It's not just the age difference; it's the fact she met him when he was underage and groomed him. Not to mention the fact she was the DIRECTOR in that film, the most powerful position there is. It's beyond disturbing how people ignore the power imbalance this relationship has had since the very beginning. I'm sure he has feelings for her, but one can't help but wonder if he'd feel the same way if he hadn't been groomed at such a young age.
I agree about the power imbalance with him being younger and her being the director, but it's not true that he was underage. He was 18/19 when filming and although there's a rumour that she knew him when he was a child, that's just made up.
Do you feel uncomfortable when you see male groomers?
He wasn’t at all underage, he was 18 when he met her and he’s the one who said to her that he was marrying her before they even got involved. Double standards because men do this all the time.
This woman belongs behind bars. PERIOD! Female sexual predators get away with seducing young boys cause of double standards on society. Imagine a 42 year old director talking about how he met a 17 year old girls and wanted her so bad for his movie and later confessing that he found her attractive. I bet all these feminists would try to destroy his career and call him a pedo but apparently it's totally normal if a 42 old woman looks at a teen boy and thinks: wow he's hot....

Haven't seen the movie but I'm surprised this was even made given the fact the author lied about the whole experience. Most that I remember was when Oprah blew up and invited the author back on her show and gave him hell, LOL.

@@_nay__ When the book came out back in 2003, it got mixed reviews but it was all the rage by the time Oprah placed it on her book club list and invited James Frey (the author) on her show in 2005. Then a year later, The Smoking Gun broke news that the author fabricated his drug abuse experiences, life, and criminal record (the heart of the book).
Then all hell broke loose, his publisher offered refunds to those who bought the book and he once again appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and admitted it was the same demons that had made him turn to alcohol and other drugs had also driven him to fabricate crucial portions of his memoir. The fact that Oprah and who she worships and what she does because of that deems she is above anyone else to say anything at all about anything is the most embarrassing aspect of this.

I doubt it. I judge other women my age for going much younger. I am about to turn 39 and I know damn well that I was a child in my twenties, let alone prior. And I don't "go girl" women having s3x with children.

What's funny to me is that anyone thought this was a true story to begin with. Like never in my life have I heard of any dentist not giving someone anaesthetics for major dental surgery because they're in rehab that's just ridiculous. And then the dude LEAVES TREATMENT TO SAVE A GIRL HE MET THERE FROM A CRACK HOUSE AND THEY JUST LET HIM BACK IN?? girl bye. Go see Being Charlie for an accurate rehab movie.

Hi. On sedation for extractions, true. My brother was addicted to opioids, finally went for treatment. He went to controlled METHADONE EVERY day. He is fine. True. My understanding was that HE instructed the oral surgeon. FYI for me? NO ONE puts me to sleep unless I am in a hospital OR, and I already have spoken with the anesthesiologists. I would argue that next to brain surgeons, these doctors are THE BEST. They put you to sleep, then wake you up when they want!! Michael Jackson and his "milk" this was sedation sleep not restorative sleep for the body.
Okay, I read the book, I saw Oprah incensed with James Frey. I saw it all! Frey did not have the language to say: "The genre of my book is realistic fiction (based on mine and others' experiences.") The book is SO powerful that there is NO way some or all was NOT his experience or others, I would say 90% at some time in his life. There is no plagiarism! What's the deal? He misrepresented himself to Oprah? Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK. Sooner or later, there will come a time in your life that you may need to draw on these experiences. Hopefully, not personally.
