"Like Watching Paint Dry" by Amos Levin
The first in a developing series that explores how paintings directly influence color schemes in the films of Éric Rohmer.
"Éric Rohmer: Comedies and Proverbs," a retrospective dedicated to the French New Wave legend is currently streaming on MUBI: mubi.com/specials/eric-rohmer
MY GIRLFRIEND'S BOYFRIEND
Éric Rohmer's interest in the intricacies of romance has never been a secret. The concluding entry in his beloved Comedies and Proverbs series, this playfully capricious four-sided love entanglement channels the volatile nature of human feelings with effortless irony. What a slippery thing love is!

Have been binge watching all of Rohmers films and I've gotta say he's probably the best French new wave director. Every film is a goddamn masterpiece
He's one of the best of all time. I've seen 18 of his films and I love (almost) all of them.
I agree by far better than Goddard imo.
@@djmx9237 I have seen few films by Godard but none have left a lasting impression on me like Rohmers do .Haven't watched some of the recent works by Godard so probably I might change my opinion but Rohmer is on a different level altogether
@@sathwikhv6874 same. Godard stylistically is amazing but like you said I fail to find depth in his work. His endings are terrible imo. I hope im wrong cause maybe he’ll grow on me. I even prefer francois truffart to godard. Rohmer is just amazing. Like you said the best!
Probably? Absolutely. I discovered him years after first discovering Truffaut in the early 90s, then discovered Rohmer about 15 years back. I still have two of his feature films to watch but did watch 'Perceval' last week, which is completely different to his other films but still great. If you've seen 'Full Moon in Paris' you've got to check out this movie with same actress: Le Pont Du Nord by Rivette, a 'student' of Rohmer. Rohmer is the best.
i’ve been so obsessed with rohmer recently and as an art lover as well, this video was so extremely fun to watch! well done :)
Apparently my falling in love with with Eric Rohmer film again is truly like "watching my life dry like wet paint" . The actors all act so well being so real ( in most of this films). And brings me back to my childhood. Thank you for posting this
A superb, involving and beautiful film, with light, natural performances, the usual deft touches, glances and fine use of colour. And he is often most appealing in summer. For years one of my favourites by the consistently engaging Rohmer. The Green Ray his most wonderful masterpiece, Claire's Knee and My Night at Maud's essential too.
just an immense work of cinema. Never ever has a filmmaker tapped into psyche like Rohmer. We are the for the most part cowards in that we hide our emotions in order for something better. Rohmer understands the game of people giving and taking, weighing up their options.
I watch La Collectionneuse for the first time early this year and didn't enjoy it at first. But as time went by, the images and dialogues came back to my head and was able to fully digest the film. I couldn't stop thinking on how close Rohmer's film was to a Romantic novel of the late 1800's early 1900's with the very complex emotions going on the characters and the exploration of their manners and customs.
Now, the first thing that comes to mind are the Jane Austen's adaptations from the late 90's early 2000's, but while most of those films had the characters inner monologues displayed in, either voice over narration, or through a letter reading. Rohmer on the other hand, leaves much of the text in the characters heads, leaving a an empty space for the audience to fill. I've thinking about it a lot since, and I want to go back to his body of work soon.
@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 hey man please can you give me the titles of some of those romantic books from the 1800s/1900s. Or author tiltle or how I could find them.
@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 I guess one of them is jane austen. Thanks mate
Incredibly charming, wholesome and most importantly of all intelligent film.
In "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" as well as in a couple of other Rohmer-films color is of utmost importance to decode the meaning. But Rohmer also made important monochrome movies. In Arthur Penn's movie cited here, Gene Hackman refers to the award-winning "My Night at Maud's" (1969) IMHO his best.
Please continue this line of inquiry!
Fantastic work!
Why is everyone so beautiful. I demand an explanation.
What about the green?

Fact: if a person is of low intelligence, they won't enjoy an Eric Rohmer movie. Stick to The Fast and the Furious.
You know what's up
