    On the topic of taste evolution. MSG is not only found in common foods and mushrooms but people all over the world ate one combination of food throughout history: tomato+salt. Tomato is rich in glutamates and the moment salt is added, the higher affinity exists to form msg which gives that special taste in our currys, pizzas and many more foods!

    From what I remember Ajinomoto (MSG) was somewhat defamed and written against because of its use in Chinese food, and people in earlier days were really racist towards the Chinese (which still prevalent today, not only against Chinese but against all races)

    I knew all about this because I was also reading about MSG a few months ago. I badly wanted to know if ajinomoto is bad or not. A quick google search told me that it's not even the name of the seasoning, it's the name of the company. That just perked up my ears because if they are wrong about the seasoning name then they are definitely wrong about the whole thing and I started reading and got to know all of this. Great video Pranav, even though I knew all of this, I still enjoyed the heck out of your video. Everything was on point, your narration, BGM, editing. Engaging AF.

    As I had studied in college the list of amino acids forming the protein chains, I had immediately identified as msg as a sodium derivative one of these amino acid glutamic acid and has to be harmless. however logic also says excess of anything including water and common slat are poisonous. So definitely the experiment of feeding msg to lab animals (when I read about it) I immediately knew this is a flawed experiment. So I had known one or two grams of msg or may be about 200 mg of msg in a serving of any preparation is quite harmless. So the msg was more a scare created by racial bias than any real research or study in the population
    Similarly the artificial sweetener aspartame is also a kind of 'protein' made up of just two such amino acids being aspartic acid phenylalanine. And there is the methanol group somewhere to link these two amino acids and the scaremongers said (besides other scare mumbo jumbo) this methanol gets released when the aspartame break up into the two amino acids in the stomach or intestine. This methanol is a deadly poison, conveniently forgetting how much of this sweetening agent is added to a cup of tea and how much methanol is released which is extremely low as compared to lethal dose or even poisonous dose for serious effects

    Hey Pranav, really loved the video. Very informative. But now I am actually a little scared to eat Maggi and other food products that contain preservatives. Is it safe to eat Maggi if it has such high levels of Lead and other toxic substances? Back when I was in my 9th or 10th standard, my mom always used to say that eating packaged/canned food products was bad for health and our family strictly avoided all of this. But I used to wonder , what is it that makes these food products so harmful, if all we are doing is consuming it occasionally. I didn't have an answer at that time and now I am in college, but I still feel that I don't have an answer to this question that satisfies my curiosity completely. My mother had a weird answer and it felt very "conspiracy-theorish". She told me that "These multinational companies don't hesitate to add higher levels of these preservatives ,than the prescribed levels, just to increase the shelf life of these products and make a profit out of it. They won't consider the side-effects that are caused to the consumers due to this and these "Food Safety" departments just print what they are told to , just for a few bucks from these rich dudes. They even manipulate the expiry date and ingredients added to the products and there is no one to check them." At that time, I thought all of this was just too far-fetched and couldn't be true. But today when I saw that Maggi had easily by-passed the food safety check and had the guts to write "NO ADDED MSG" even though they have clearly added MSG, makes me think what all lies have they been telling the consumers. And not just Maggi, the entire food industry in general. And movies like "Velaikkaran" by Mohan Raja starring Sivakarthikeyan, which apparently talk about the "dark secrets" of the food manufacturing industry, don't help either. How do you verify which information is correct? Can you actually believe the things written behind the packets of these products? Even if it is in small quantities and is consumed rarely, is it safe to consume such packaged food products? Pls share ur thoughts on this.

      What do you think about studies measuring IQ differences between races? He did not provide any evidence why that study was pseudo science. Most 100 meter sprint competitions are won by Africans or people with African genes, is the Olympics racist. I think this is an attempt at dismissing science with ideology and political correctness and should not be allowed.

    I would like to point out that eugenics as a pseudo science may have come out of the west but in India, Jaati Vayavastha is basically eugenics in itself. We Indians were the first to invent this pseudo science and we have done and still doing terrible crimes in the name of it.

    Hi pranav, first of all congrats and thanks for bringing up such a great and well researched topic.
    I was having similar thoughts for some of the other religious videos which are there on the channel. Your research is on point for all of them but what I think using references for studies done by foreign researchers can be heavily biased given the fact that "science and racism has a long history". Also, the results can be heavily pivoted due to placebo effect as well therefore varying opinion on such topics.
    I understand that you're not against any particular religion and you try to bring facts from a scientific perspective but given the unavoidable biased nature of the person/group conducting the research either in favour or against a particular thought and then using them as reference to conclude a broader topic is not sufficient.
    There have been times when scientific community was not even open to accept that earth is not the centre of the universe. I guess there'll always be so many things which we as a community need to explore and properly understand instead of just negating them by assuming that it is entirely baseless or not possible or some of the researches in the area has not given significant results in support of any such phenomena.
    Your thoughts??

    • @scienceisdope
      @scienceisdope  Před rokem +3

      I think you're implying that if a research study is not biased in favour of a topic, it has to be biased against the topic. There's no in between. Not true.
      And also, it doesn't matter if the researchers are biased or not. The research need not be flawed. It's flawed when the research methodology is bad.
      Bias in research is only in the form of such flaws which can be caught through peer review.

    • @akanshugupta2116
      @akanshugupta2116 Před rokem

      @@scienceisdope Agreed. But what I'm saying is the results and findings will mostly be heavily inclusive of the researchers own belief. Say for meditation, whoever believes it's helpful he'll be looking for those results and whoever is against of it will look for the same while conducting a research.
      Being totally rational in such sense is pretty much tough.
      Also, about the peer review. Again peer review are supposed to be influenced by the reviewers own thought and there's always support and against bifurcation among the peers for any given research.
