  • This one is a little more off the cuff I think, I wasn't really planning to do a review of this game until very recently, but I hope it ends up being thorough.

Riggs literally took the Player's role as leader of the Alpha Squad in the Remake. This left the Player to take his SFH2 role - the extremely non-showy guy who shines in the most unexpected moments.

While it's an improvement to SFH1, SFH1 Remake is probably more of an experimental project. The devs want to put in lots of new features, like the Raze-3-style boss battles, the SFH3 slot machine, rarity, inventory and side quest shenanigans, but at the same time they also are kinda afraid to rock the boat too much. Like, look at the boss battles. The last time I saw the boss battles get this interesting was in Raze 3, with the Alien Commander changing the map he's fighting in at the final act. But after one run, I don't really feel like playing them again. Huntress is too hard to fight because the map she's in is too large. Making the map smaller would make the same fight more tolerable, even with her teleport killstreak and her holographic snipers. What about the Behemoth? The only real trick he has are those spores that, once hitting you, bloom into corrosive/poisonous clouds. What about Jenkins? His fight is like the Huntress' but less interesting. At least the teleport killstreak is not there. And Max Heat. He's like the GlobeX Mech in SFH2 chap14 except hittable. 5 platforms do not offer much maneuverability. But hey, his spams are cool in concept. It just needs a change in map. GlobeX Leader? Only variation is that he spawns backup now, every now and then, and also does not die by falling off the nuke (cuz he gets rescued by his stealth bomber). More tweaks are needed to make him more challenging.
    Also...who's the Huntress?

      "improvement"
bro it replaces the entire progression system with the one in the second game
that's a strict downgrade in every way as there is ZERO progression, as it's instead just completely random nonsense 💀

If Sky9 Games remake the sequal, Riggs and Bull have the potential of returning. Bull is still alive and was left behind to help get some of the GlobeX soldiers off the train to give the Squad a moment to breath while Riggs being mentioned that he is alive but is just injured and is being treated.

After watching this review and seeing hundreds of different mixed reviews with the game before, during and after launch, Remastered may have the most ambitious community feedback out of any Sky9 Games ever.
Based on the different reviews the game had so many back and forth feedback where it gone to a point that the devs don't know if the game is easy or hard or what is bad and what's good based on the players specifically not explaining clearly of any aspect of the game. How do I know this?....
Justin informed that the Spas12 fire rate was nerf because many people stated the Tanks were too hard and impossible to kill....that part is where I don't know are they talking about the players? or the bots on Insane Difficulties?
I see a lot of people have called is hard because they haven't tried different strategies to advance, others have say its too easy while avoiding the rest of the difficulties, the 3rd group are the people who will pirated and call it a "Copy and Paste" game to make cash super quick.
Its super hard for 2 guys with a big community, its super sad that despite everything the fans have to say they really want to remake their game and give the fans what we really want after all these years while getting the Boot on all sides on the body from them one at a time.
Multiplayer I wouldn't call a must do with players since they added it just for fun or get your buddies.
What I will say that Sky9 Games will learn from this and improve it for their future games, hopefully hiring more programmers and artists in new projects outside of SFH where they gonna make SFH2R from SFHR.
Overall the review from V1.18 aged well
also nice 3 random cameo (no pun intended) appearances of Ani lol

34:11 I'm glad that they're brothers. It's a small decision, but easily one of the best they made. Especially when you consider the artbook saying that there was a theory going around that they were brothers.
39:51 Funny thing is that I think they planned to implement MP in Raze 2. The closest they got was the whole online stats thing.
44:46 Okay, kinda personal tangent incoming.
I'm... not really that big of a fan of Rose at Nightfall being in One Final Effort. Don't get me wrong-I welcomed hearing it again in a Sky9 game, however, I don't think I would've shrieked at the top of my lungs that there was a missed opportunity to put it in there if it wasn't. Hell, I don't think I would've even thought about the possibility.
Raze 2 utilised it beautifully. You hear it at the beginning of the invasion of both campaigns, signifying that another war is about to break out despite neither side wanting it; you hear it during the duel between RS and AC (I guess that's what I'm calling the player-controlled commander from Raze 2 now... AC) to really amp up the tension and just generally be a banger; and you hear it during the final level of each campaign, showing that it's all or nothing in the final fight. You take too long, everyone is done for. And Rose at Nightfall perfectly encapsulates that feeling.
In SFH:R... something about it playing in One Final Effort just doesn't hit the same. That doesn't mean it's not a banger, and I will always stand by the viewpoint that it is. I'm never going to say that this one choice Sky9 made ruined my view of Rose at Nightfall permanently-almost NOTHING ever will.
I just can't find the words to describe how I feel and that might be because I'm not that big of an SFH fan (or for other reasons that I will never get into). The most I can say is that... it comes out of nowhere.
In short, it's a welcome surprise to hear Rose at Nightfall in a Sky9 game after so long-don't get me wrong-but... it playing in OFE doesn't feel right. And I don't think it would be alleviated by making it the GlobeX Leader's bossfight theme, since Rose at Twilight is already a very good choice for that fight.
Maybe it would've worked if Boarding Action had Rose at Midnight and OFE had Rocket Race like in the original. Then again, it's just how I feel.
I might edit this comment if something I typed down sounds off to me. Or if I have more to say.

      @Phe0niz  Před dnem

I still would have preferred they weren't related because it comes off as half-life: full life consequences type writing, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it in execution here. Though I do very much agree with the Rose at Nightfall take. I used to think the nuke cure segment was an error in placing songs, I didn't hear it very often as I had my music disabled for a majority of the recording sessions, but I did hear them use that in execution. I understand why, it's a very good song for a 'ticking clock' it conveys alarm at the start, but I do much prefer Rose at Nightfall's execution in Raze 2 as it was used in very particular and meaningful moments in the campaign.
I don't think they were going through with multiplayer for Raze 2, if they have, they dropped it very quickly and settled with the online scoreboard statistic they put in. But to be fair, I first got onto Justin's blog just when Raze 2 dropped, so I might've just missed any commentary on that.

@@Phe0niz The whole Raze 2 MP thing kinda came from my memory. I don't know if it was from ArcadePreHacks or ArmorGames, but one of the sites mentioned that the devs wanted to implement MP, which couldn't get in Raze 1 and so it was planned for its successor.
      And... well... yeah.

honestly, the change in progression system is what single handedly tanked my interest in the game
there is no longer any actual progression, it's just "hope you get a good modifier, if not the weapon is useless"
and god fucking forbid you wanna use a specific weapon
thankfully i managed to get a refund, here's hoping they come to their senses and at the very least give us an option to use the old system
