    One thought... I'm guessing that was a demo box for the shop, I'm also guessing those wires on the back of the enclosure go to an amp. When checking a subwoofer impedance with a meter, disconnect one of the legs so you aren't reading continuity through the amp. That does happen, believe me. Also, if it's noisy or windy where you are checking the sub, the cone will pick up sound waves and transfer them into small amounts of voltage, that's why the impedance fluctuates like it did in this video.

    When checking for resistance you should have the sub facing up instead of sitting up in a enclosure to get a correct reading

    Your battery could be running low. It could say you are putting out 15 amps you may have a battery with little charge and that could be the difference between being noticed and stock! Some people think a compactor is dumb but I run one and I my system hits hard

    In addition to everything that carstereochick has said, I'd just want to add that if its cold outside, the subs stiffen up so its output will be more limited until they come up to temperature - which they may not actually do if its very cold outside or if your trips are very short.

      so I just got a skar audio VVX-D4 10". and the subwoofer barely moves I got it wired down to two ohm the subwoofer takes 600rms (35v) tuning the gain with my DMM. the sub isn't messed up in any way and hooked up in parallel. does it need broken In or something I've never had this issue build tons of boxes and have had plenty of woofers. never had this issue amo worked fine good grounds and connections, if anyone had some advice it would be appreciated OGs

    I have had a system for like 1 year almost and man it hit so hard like not even full volume and it was hiting hard u had to open a window bc it was just making ur ears clog now I have it full volume and still don’t hit hard it has to be all the way up to finally feel the seat vibration I don’t know it sometimes hits really hard sometimes it don’t ?

    My subwoofer takes up the entire trunk man. It used to be heart pounding bass but not anymore. The amp thing is connected to the back of the seats and the subwoofer is like mounted onto brackets or something? its always creaking it makes the car sound like an old creaky car i hate it.
    Heart pounding bass stopped working tho. Im gonna check for air leaks and see if wires have shifted. hopefully that helps!

    I'm having this same issue..However, not trying to be a jerk(mean to be constructive), but some of the information in this video is a bit off. Like, pushing in on the cone, if its stiff or it has resistance, that doesn't mean its blown. In fact if your using a sealed box a good way to see if its sealed good, is the cone will have a bit of resistance when pressing in and is a bit slow to depress. The tell-tale sign of a blown voice coil is a crunchy feel and sound when pressing in on it and only if you had a catastrophic failure will it lock up(exceeded its mechanical limit). When your testing the resistance of the voice coil, the speaker wire should be unplugged from the box, especially if the other end is hooked up to the amp.. Otherwise you can get false readings from the amp circuit or the speaker wire could be crossed at the other end, etc.. The ohms shouldn't be fluctuating like that at all.. You might get a few tenths range(like 2.1-2.3), so I'm guessing you just weren't making a good connection with your probe.

      Wanting to add to your guide. You should check your rca wires to make sure they are plugged in good, if you get a bit of a signal drop from the deck, it will directly reduce the amps output(ie. 2v rca only gives 1v , will half the output). Re-check the gain on the amp.. Unplug the speaker wire at the amp, screw down the probes of your multi-meter in the speaker outputs. Put a 50hz test track on and turn your HU to the max volume before it distorts. The multimeter set to a/c voltage, you should get a reading. Using the formula, Output Volt = Square root(Target watts x Ohm load). Example 1000w x 2 ohm = 2000, sqrt = 44.7 volts. So for 1000 watts at 2 ohm, your amp should show around 44 volts. If your number is way off, start by checking all the wires, rca, power/ground. If everything is good to go, turn the gain knob until desired voltage is showing on multimeter.

    Current spec.
    2x Skar vd 12 subs dual 2ohm 500rms each
    Rockville db14 4000watt AMP
    So i upgraded my amp and sub from boss 1100watt amp, MTX terminater sub to the current one listed.
    For some reason my old set up is alot louder and i cant find any solution. Would there be any reason on why my new set up is not as loud?? even though its a much better set up?

      @rmblwgn Před 5 lety

      That is a much better setup. what wiring are you using make sure you're not using shitty copper coated aluminum wire. you should be using OFC 4 gauge wire min. also make sure your. Turn bass boost off. Make sure your battery is still good

    I remember when I first installed my subwoofer (Kicker L7 15") it was hitting hard. Then recently when i got into my car and heard how it sounded weak the bass wasnt BOOMING ! idk what happened. I wonder if i played it too loud louder than it can handle and i messed it up idk anyone know what could be the problem?

    That was very helpful but still doesn’t hit as hard. I have a 10” sub and it doesn’t sound like it use to at all. Now it’s as low as the stereos bass. I checked the ground but still nothing. So frustraited

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  Před rokem

      Have you checked battery voltage while the system is playing, bass hitting and car running? A lot of amplifiers adjust their output depending on voltage. So your amp may be rated at say 500 watts RMS at 14.4 volts, but maybe only 400 RMS at 12 volts. The other thing to look for is any corrosion in the power wire. If it's CCA and not OFC I have seen that stuff corrode and stiffen up after only one New England winter. When corrosion gets into the wire it's like the amp is starving for power, kind of like trying to suck down a really thick milkshake through a super thing straw.

      Alive and kicking! I have actually been doing this stuff for 23 years. I've learned a lot during that time and still aim to learn something new and improve every day. The best I've got out of it all is my own shop that I get to run with my best friend that is holding its own despite many trials and tribulations. For that I am truly grateful :)
