I'm 75% done with Greg's book "essentialism". And preparing a for a big talk with my manager about creating clearer and more essential goals. Thank you Greg and Matt!
@Travis Austin Yes I thoroughly enjoyed it. It revolves more around work/life balance, and around the concept of "less but better" by saying no to the nonessentials and focusing on what really matters.
*It’s not about getting more done, it’s about getting the RIGHT things done... Learn the difference between the trivial many vs the vital few and life will become naturally better. I recently* *made an animated video on Essentialism, i wonder what you all think?*
This! What is the point of doing more when all of that extra effort isn't focused towards the right things? Took me so long to realize this but when I did, it changed my perspective on what needs to get done and what I think I want to get done
Hmm... A surefire fine tune in the top noggin for sure, I've always pretty much percieved getting more done as being most important but not really have I quite put a finger on focusing on not "all" of which really matters in life for first and foremost, but the "few" for which really matters in life for me in every "current" moment that I come to encounter
I bet if there was a counter that showed the level of appreciation per subscriber for each channel, Matt's rating would be in the top 2% of all of CZcams. At least. 💙
I worked part-time throughout my entire career. I just learned to go without. Saved lots of money. Comfortably retired. Really enjoyed my time off and still do.
Thanks for sharing. Somehow I feel comforted knowing there are others who have done this and it’s not just wishful thinking. Anything is possible with the right mindset and execution
I am only 18 and I feel with a lot of young people we use objects to occupy and entertain to distract from fear. I think a lot of us know the weight that is on our shoulders to do better because of the current state of OUR planet and the repercussions we will have to face as opposed to older generations who won't. A lot of us are afraid and want distraction, we don't want to engage with reality. I am so guilty of this because the alternative seems so frightening, staring the beast in the face instead of relying on the temporary comfort of more.
Face the beast and show other people how to do it. Be that role model who inspires other people. Use your values as a guide and essentialism as a way to enhance the experience. Go forward with confidence.
You know the beast is there but you choose to turn your back to it. The beast is still behind you, breathing down your neck. What do you choose, a life of fear and ignorance, or a life where you do the best you can with what you are given? I am 27 and I feel the same, life can be overwhelming and sometimes we feel like turning our backs to the problems will make them go away. This feeling is not age related. It's how our minds work to help us cope, but it's just a temporary fix. We still have to look the beast in the eye and fight it eventually so why not slowly turn each day and get ready to deal with it? It's difficult and uncomfortable but small steps are better than no steps, just like we heard in this video.
Note to young people: the world has been in MUCH worse shape, politically and yes, environmentally. Don't let people with an agenda scare you (and teachers - leave the kids alone). Be rational. Be happy.
I became a minimalist about two years ago. I've noticed that my human connections have fallen off. Background- I find that I can live most of my life commuting on my electric motorcycle with everything I need in my backpack. I never go shopping except for food. I'm spending more time outdoors exercising (city bike). I've quit watching television, except for some sporting events. I have met resistance and a loss of connectedness. I'm not part of the watercooler conversations at work- what was on television this week, bitching about the price of petrol, etc. Friends and family struggle to find something to talk to you about. Gift giving holidays are a struggle. Friends, family, coworkers think I'm antisocial. You just have less things that connect to other people because you're not talking about the things you've taken out of your daily orbit that are still in theirs without them feeling as though your are completely uninterested in waht interests them or being judgemental. Is this normal and how do you stay connected?
I know this is an old comment but I am EXACTLY the same. I am vegan, minimalist and now into zero waste. I’m so different from everyone and don’t feel like I’m interested in the same things and conversations I used to be. I’m lucky to be married to an amazing man who gets me.
I think that family often thinks I’m odd because I don’t value the same things instead I try to focus on one relationship at a time. I explain that I don’t want to clutter my time and energy with what does not bring me joy then I ask the question of why do they? I hear a lot of excuses but it is always that hamster wheel
Matt: *uploads a video on Thursday!* Me: OMG! 2 VIDEOS OF MATT IN A WEEK! THIS IS BETTER THAN CHRISTMAS!!!! happiness is underated. 👇how many Easter eggs I will eat today
Definitely! Sometimes, I feel like people are too quick to speak out on their own opinions or experiences and will forget that we have the right to choose for ourselves. If we want to live a life that's more meaningful to us personally, we have to stand firm in our own rights and realize it's okay to say no or that you disagree (but of course, do it in a way that's respectful).
Throughout my entire life I’ve tried to engage in as many activities as I could. There’s just not enough time to dedicate to each thing. I now realize the importance of slowing down and focusing on essentials.
“I’ll rest when I’m dead” I think this statement could be so detrimental. I do believe in today’s world people are busy in pursing financial gain for happiness for example. Financial gain is something that will never cease. Therefore, if we keep linking happiness to something that never ceases; we will never ever be happy or ever stop being busy in being busy. Another great share Matt 👍🏾
Sincerely Yoann Did you consider that chasing something that never ceases makes many people’s lives feel like it has value. I will always be busy in being busy but it’s not something I would be unhappy about. The chase is what makes life so thrilling and without the chase, I become dull and depressed. The “I’ll rest when I’m dead” is kinda stupid tbh 😂 I’m getting my daily 10 hours every night. I actually want to live until my 80’s.
Sami Amor Thank you for the other narrative, I guess it’s within us humans to always occupy ourselves. I guess the question is what is too much busy-ness, where do you draw the line? Oh I’m sure your 10 hours sleep periods will grant you longevity in life pass your 80’s even 😂
1 thing I noticed after coming home to normal life, after 5 months of travelling and back packing was how life became too busy, too many plans, too many bills, too many decisions to make everyday and it was a lot of effort to slow down and make it less busy. Having that time of quiet or slowness is the most wonderful thing, most happiest for me too. Thx for the video 😍
Matt, Thank you for putting part of this interview on your channel! I am not able to be a patron right now and Appreciate being able to benefit from part of the talk here :) Such a cool discussion! Keep up the awesome work! 👍
Bought his book yesterday after leaving the psychiatrist's appointment exactly because I'm in a time of life that I have no time for me. Each page of the book and every minute of this interview are helping me change my mindset. Thank you for your work and for appearing for me on CZcams at the right time!
One of my friends and I are both involved in community work. We usually check in with each other weekly to see what's on the "community calendar," i.e. stuff we should go to, and we only go to select events that really matter. All the other stuff, we skip, and we've gotten really good at it!!!
Shelia Huggins That’s great! My brothers and I have recently decided since we really don’t see each other too often even though we live together to do the weekly grocery shopping together. It’s not something huge, but taking time to both gets things done together every Friday both brings us closer since we’re spending time together and also getting stuff together. We feel more like a team that way. It’s not huge, but it’s one of my favorite times during the week. Plus they’re the only ones I can really talk about investing and minimalism with.
Thank you for this ♡ we jumped off grid 2015 and sold everything ... as we've built our home out here it's been mindful "less but better" .... freedom to us is choice.... choosing how we live. Good stuff ♡
Housewife In The Woods love this! we did something similar 10 years ago! Sold everything in our 2000 sq ft home and into a 180 sq ft RV to travel. Once we settled back down (after 4 years) we were so deliberate about what we bought and brought into our space. “Have nothing in your home you don’t know to be useful or find to be beautiful.” That quote was our motto and it served us well in curating the things in our home. ❤️
‘So busy’ for 20+ years resulted in such ill health I have been stopped in my tracks and no longer value ‘busy’ or the things ‘busy’ allowed me to possess. Thank you for this excellent post. Love the book. Love your work Matt. Keep it up. It’s a shame I had to get ill to reset my priorities but in a weird way I’m thankful for the experience. At least I learnt it in time to appreciate my new found life.
well i think that's also because you have a lot on your mind that it almost becomes a paradox of decisions. for example I may wake up for the day and think of all the possible things I can do but i don't realize that my mind has become a paradox of decisions and I've wasted half of my day already.
I was introduced to the Essentialism book from this interview, and it was a great read. The essentialist mindset but constantly trapped in our normal day to day chaos is an every day struggle!
Am I the only one who' binge watching Matt's podcast? Great work, really inspiring for me. I learned a lot and told all of my friends to listen 🙏 Keep up the good work
“How to not have those [non-essential] projects in the first place.” My work life in a nutshell! I’m made to waste SO much time on BS, and I’m too mentally exhausted to get to the essential things. I work under the supreme micro-manager, forcing certain employees to duplicate & triplicate the same non-essential work again and again. “Do the research. Do more research. Do the interview. Write a report about the interview. Give weekly status updates. Have five meetings about the updates. Answer multiple phone calls from three different “leaders”, all telling you something slightly different. Type updates into this system that wasn’t designed to handle such content. Write summary reports about all the individual reports....” Meanwhile, my actual JOB has nothing to do with interviews, meetings, and reports; I’m supposed to be doing forensics. I need a new job.
Most jobs are like yours. I am a teacher and believe it or not we have to write so many papers, daily plans...registers, you have to write evth on paper and into the schools online page. Then you have to prepare to deal with the student , the lesson and evth else....
Super stuff though! Matt, been watching your podcasts for over an year - killer stuff, it's genuinely helped improve me. Dunno if you're reading this, but thanks anyways :)
“We are now in a state of opinion overload...” no doubt!! Actions are what matter and quality of life- not the hustle or grind. I’ve learned this the hard way but glad I learned it. Once you see it - you see how people fall for MLM’s...everything is so fake and so shallow in that mindset. Always striving, trying and working to get ahead- I realized this was not the life I wanted anymore. I just want peace, contentment and living on purpose. Minimalism and and essentialism naturally followed as well as deepened spirituality. Great interview and insight - I’m getting his book for sure.
one thing not directly addressed is the emphasis on Pausing. its important to pause. to think, to plan. to deliberate and weigh the options. Pausing then, is vital to saying no, vital to being conscious and aware of yourself, your priorities, needs and wants. with electronic media always around us, available, our thoughts never allowed to process, too busy trying to input more info. we adapt and react to our surroundings, which distort them. quietness and solitude is needed to find your own voice.
This video echoes exactly what I'm currently going through: changing the mindset to strip down to the essentials, pinpoint what's meaningful and important, and maintain a level of productive consistency. This type of content is what changes people's lives. Keep up the phenomenal work!
I love your channel. It's the first time I've found a channel that's not entertainment directed exactly. I find that when I come to your channel, I'm going to have a mindful experience. Maybe it's part of my maturity and I'm searching for more meaningful information from the internet. I don't know, but keep it up I really enjoy the content and I'm sure many others do as well.
I was just talking to my boyfriend about this. I got extremely overwhelmed with wasting my time on CZcams, and other social media platforms, with the "entertainment". Now I find myself looking for things that open my mind. I agree with you completely!
Greg is currently changing my life! I started less with more in my life and think it's so important for us to understand what actually matters for us in our life everything else outside of that is all noise. My work has been more clear and my days really are intentional.
I have had the book on my want to buy list for a number of months as another minimalist channel recommended it. I am not a reader. Thank you Matt for giving us a taste of Greg's book. At various stages of my life I have said "Essential or Non Essential" mainly when I have being shopping with another person. Now I am working with different values which assist me in the choices that I am making. I will buy and I am sure there will be many light bulb moment within the book over many years. For we only pick up ideas based on our level of knowledge, over time this changes.
You and Gary Vee literally turned my life upside down few days ago... it’s like I just woke up, went on youtube and found you. It sounds super dramatic, but it’s the truth. I feel like something has been „unlocked” inside of me, and I can’t keep negative thoughts for long anymore, almost as if I’ve got a different filter in me to only keep the positive thoughts! There’s a lot of things I need to work on in terms of myself, but it’s ok because I can see the long term now, so I will find that patience. I’m breaking my „hardwires”, I don’t ever want to go back to it but it’s something I am definitely scared of. I’ve accepted that fear though, so I know it will piss off. The past couple of days have been ridiculously fast for me, but I feel like it has finally slowed down (very weird feeling). In the past couple of days, I have spend more time talking to all kinds of people than I did in probbably the whole MONTH. I am still confused af by this, but like I said I want this to be the REAL me, for the rest of my life. For the first time I can easily say that this IS the real me, and I can finally begin to know myself. I am 22 years old, I am entering the best part of my fucking life, and I wanted to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart 😭
Throughout this entire thing I was just quietly saying “huh” because of how wonderful these points are. I’m going through a lot of introspection these days over my career choice, what’s important to me, and what makes me happy. I’ve realized I’m happiest when I’m not busy. When I have time to breathe and stop to pet a dog on the way home, or try out the forest path at the back of my house, or even just sit at my window and watch the rain. It’s a breath of fresh air to see this video and hear real suggestions on exactly /how/ to be less busy. I love this approach and mindset, thank you for this!
I really apreciated Matt to upload this interview in 30 min but to be honest the 9 min version already packed all the essential point he made and that just wow me how good Matt choices of edditing is
Hi Matt I am from South Africa, Cape Town shout out to myself. Just wanted say thank you for all your content. I am mild ADD and simplifying my life and environment is essential to me.
This is so good description I am Busy = I am busy with comparison. Thank you. It makes a lot clear when I hear that reaction. I am spiritual and totally not feeling busy anymore. You need this busy as an opposite to feeling relax. Much love. xx
There is a fine line between not taking too many projects on and not taking ANY projects on. In a world of social media and digital connection we not only have comparisons that make us want to work harder, but these platforms also serve as a means of distraction and procrastination. “We have to shape our digital tools before they shape us.” - Andrew Keen
I can’t imagine that we haven’t missed that window of opportunity long ago...sadly. Our economy, social structure, even recreation, are all influencially framed by technology to a degree that separating from them now would be a monumental course correction :/
I use scrap paper from the mail to organize and prioritize a schedule. I update every morning and night. I designate chores to everyone. Everyone gets their own list. They decide when to do it. If it doesn't get done, we try again or designate to someone else. A family requires team effort. I also record one large project per month on a calendar. Indoor projects during the winter and outdoor projects for the summer. I also streamline chores. If I'm cooking in the kitchen, I also do dishes. If I'm walking by, I pick up and put away. I fold my clothes neatly in a pile so that they press each other and I don't have to iron. Rather than a broom and dustpan, I use a swivel sweeper. For dusting, I use a long magnetic wand found online. Taking good care of the little things helps to keep each day running more smoothly.
My thoughts: 1. It is this peer-comparison driven busyness that's robbing us 2. With success comes more opportunities and if you are not intentional and self honest like a minimalist you'll fall into the trap of "undisciplined pursuit of more" while "disciplined pursuit of less" is what will bring you more success (and in that point success won't even matter to you, living life wil.) 3. If you don't prioritise your life, with hightened awareness on what is a priority, someone else will.
I do like that Essentialism is being explored here in the talk. I am more inclined to Minimalism but I understand it is not for everyone/not easy to adapt. I jam just happy that these two concepts can co-exist like two friends trying to support/criticize one another. :) Thank you.
Lorenzo Santos these things aren’t about which way of life is right, it’s about finding something that gives your life meaning, if that is Minimalism to you, that’s all that matters, but I suppose they are similar in many ways :)
Such a quality discussion. I’m so glad people are talking about this... as a mom I have grown so tired of the daily grind and missing out on those moments with my kids that make me feel human. We were not put on this earth just to work work work. If you take the focus off of the unnecessary... refocus to your children; your wife; your husband; your family; nature... things start to make a whole lot more sense.
What a coincidence that I just read Greg’s book last month and then Matt does an interview with him. At work, I’m starting to look at what’s essential and organize from there.
Couldn't appreciate your videos more, Matt. The habit-tracker is set right beside me. Two heavy packages full of unnecessary stuff are right behind me, wating for getting lost. And yeah, I also learn English by these great podcasts :D
"If you don't prioritize your life, someone else will." I didn't even realize that that's how I've been living my life. That's probably how most people live their lives; on someone else's time. It's time to change that.
Great video, great content, thanks a lot! I think it's very interesting how he says "If non-essentialism is working for someone, keep doing it!". That's a great example of how self help should be. I've been working myself into a depression for a long time and have discovered essentialism and minimalism to live my life better, but that doesn't have to mean it works for everyone. Not everyone may have a problem building meaningful relationships and living a happy life that way. And that's what makes it truly great. He's not pushing his agenda in your life; he's just giving your mind a shove in the right direction.
"Less but better, less but with more ambition." I love this concept! Because of you Matt, I'm embracing minimalism and working towards a more focused and intentional life. Thank you for everything, keep inspiring people!
Essentialism, minimalism, veganism... and so on... It seems to me we are going through a time of trying to rediscover meaning and ground, which has been vacuumed out by a digital existence, heightened consumerism, the loss of religion as well as real human relations. We compartmentalise and define systems of living because it's become hard to be authentic. I wish it wasn't so. I wish I knew the tree still falls even if CZcams isn't there.
It’s actually just a point in time where people live such a privileged existence they can choose how they spend their time, choose to restrict their diet and choose to restrict how much they own. Previously these were simply the constraints of your station in life. People worked sun up to sun down, time was spent doing essential jobs because they were all related to either the production of food or money to buy the actual essentials and you ate whatever was there. Nowadays we spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff because we have the luxury of pondering the meaning of our existence.
great video! this made me learn a lot about myself & i think i'm getting the book. personal notes from the video: - let conscience be the guide. success is a poor teacher. be discerning. - we're busy bc other people are. hyperconnectivity. - get enough sleep so you can discern properly - if you don't prioritize your life, someone else will. - accept that we are saying no all the time & everybody is. we say no in a compulsive way. say no within yourself. - discipline pursuit of less but better - buffering systems - next level contributions - 3x - there are things that are far more important but less urgent to you. be cautious in pushing those away - aligned: right thing, right time, right reasons, buffer & execute --> interest: if i pursue this, will i still have a buffer? - buffer as key to consistency - patience is active waiting: upper and lower bound of behavior -> bc goal is to do this consistently - impatience drives consistency with the right mindset: "knowing what we know, how can we create buffers, upper and lower bounds?" - know yourself & what you arent -> success -> make decisions from there based on conscience and not your success - non-essentialism: it's over before it begins - exchange value - you can't say everything to everyone: what is your carefully curated message you're trying to share? don't get consumed by the noise. what are you trying to say + impt voice of clarity - more effort ≠ more results - justification for focus: if you believe that some things are more necessary than others, your behaviors will change with it too > not everything has equal value: it's about finding those things with proper value - difficult to overstate the unimportance of everything - trivial many vs vital few: figure those out & build systems to protect them
Bro, this video is fucking amazing. Thank you over and over for creating content that really truly hits home for me. I’m a working mom of 2 kids. 9 + 14. I’m a creator at heart and passion driven. My mind is BUSY, and it often drains the fuck out of me. This 29 minute video provided clarity and honestly I can’t wait to dig deeper and apply essentialism into my life.
Great content. The very iconic thing is that I thought I am having difficulty to say no, for example to online information because I think they could be potentially useful. However, I did say no with no problem at all to the things in my life that I know it is important for sure.
The best part about ur videos on CZcams is that, you provide quality stuff even here and don’t reserve important information merely for ur patreon account. U truly value providing quality to everyone. 👍🏼💫
I literally began reading his Essentialism book by today and now my favorite CZcamsr uploads an in-depth interview with him... That's so sick! 😁 Big ups Matt, all the love from an 18-year-old Dutch music guy 🖐
Came across this at the point of breaking down from studies really make me question my way of doing my studies. Matt’s video has helped me from financial management to be productive. Thank you so much for being and inspiration!
Something practicable I took from this, is multiplying EVERYTHING by 3.14592: how much time something might take to accomplish, how much money it will cost, what to charge for services rendered, how much effort and time you need to put into family and friends to keep them happy... It's worked really wonderfully for me.
I’ve watched nearly every one of your videos, but this is by far the one that struck me the most and led to this: My first ever CZcams comment. Realizing you’re in a diamond mine and not a coal mine? Absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much for creating this video, Matt. And thank you, Greg, for spreading such a necessary - some might even say “essential” - message!
27:45 - Becoming essentialist is like discovering you've lived your whole life in a coal mine, when one day you wake up and realize its a diamond mine. You start to value the little nuggets instead of focusing on volume.
Can I just stop and say. I felt all of this. I’ve just gotten “hijacked” at work for leaving early . Mind you I get paid hourly and was told ( in the past) i can come and go as I please .. Now there are times where I sit at my desk and will be promised work but get no work on my desk. It’s insane. I now spend hours at work essentially keeping up the appearance of working while not working when I could be at home being productive reading is prepping for law school which Is why I got the job I have now in the first place.. to save and prep. Whhheeew I needed this video and to get that off my chest!
I've just turn 18 and I feel so much pressure around me 😟 e.g career , job , girlfriend etc etc But I'm growing my self awareness and trying not rush !
This video follows the current concepts found in astrology: From 2018 - 2020, Saturn opposes the Sun. Saturn is in Capricorn. Saturn is a teacher and taskmaster. There will be harsh tests and sacrifice. Adapt yourself to hard work and discipline. Prioritize and take responsibility. Focus on the details. Strategize with a careful, slow, deliberate pace and use your time well. Understand that action has consequence. Be vigilant. Keep promises. Follow rules. Avoid risk and move on. Develop long-term gain from consistent effort. Develop a stable structure that is stronger than before. Create a wise, sturdy foundation that you can keep forever.
Pick and choose to avoid overwhelming the mind but learn to be in stillness as it helps us to reboot. Take on what you can and timing is great tip. I took double the time and summers off to get college recent degree looking back no regrets because family and friends didn’t get neglected, paid as I went, and now we got this pandemic! We can learn a lot by going to an estate sale, all the material goals aren’t much of value...it’s the way you spent the time you had and relationships you maintain. Ultimately ,we need to know what we are investing our time into, that it’s something you don’t regret when sitting in that old timers rocking chair or deathbed.
Awesome interview. Book ordered. Also, at the risk of being called a fanboy, the thing that I identified with about Gary Vaynerchuk (mentioned at 7:38) is that he encourages people to do what gives them happiness. Whether it be working more or blocking out family time or time to do something else. If you are happy with the results you are getting putting in less work then it is great, if not then I guess working more would be an option. Maybe self-awareness plays a big role as it will help us prioritize better. Again, not trying to promote Gary but it makes sense practically. PS: Thanks for 2 videos in a week. Always awaiting your content.

yeah, great one!
@Improve Now Pat Firstly, having enough breathing space to figure out what 'prioritizing your life looks like'
Meaning, someone will help you prioritize your life?

I'm 75% done with Greg's book "essentialism". And preparing a for a big talk with my manager about creating clearer and more essential goals.
Thank you Greg and Matt!
Hosam Dahrooge hows the book going? Worth it?
@@adyl3236 It's great I'm planning to finish it today. Just be ready to read/hear the word "essential" many, many... many times :D
@@samdahrooge5847 i also finished the book today, congrats to us i guess.
That's just terrific Hosam!
I'll check it out
@@ofekhershko7448 thanks! let me know what you think
Hmm... A surefire fine tune in the top noggin for sure, I've always pretty much percieved getting more done as being most important but not really have I quite put a finger on focusing on not "all" of which really matters in life for first and foremost, but the "few" for which really matters in life for me in every "current" moment that I come to encounter
Watching Matt is essential every week.
Haha for me too ✓
It really is, though! He's one of the few CZcams channels that I try to watch every video. Every single one is top-notch quality.

For sure.
definetly
He’s definitely at least in the top 1% in terms of subscribers right now...just think about it

I worked part-time throughout my entire career. I just learned to go without. Saved lots of money. Comfortably retired. Really enjoyed my time off and still do.
I do the same!
I'm 17 and totally identify with what you said
Agree
Be happy.
I’m 19 minutes in and already know I’ll be listening to this on repeat. So many quotes to tattoo to my forehead. 😆 Thank you for sharing this Matt!
What are some of your favorites?
Insane idea but so popular to talk that way.
"If you don't prioritize you life, someone else will" - great lesson. So simple, but many of us live their life totally opposite...
Bump!!!
I know this is an old comment but I am EXACTLY the same. I am vegan, minimalist and now into zero waste. I’m so different from everyone and don’t feel like I’m interested in the same things and conversations I used to be. I’m lucky to be married to an amazing man who gets me.
Just listen in to their convos to pick up news from TV and pick up on local complaints and then repeat their opinions to others
This is a very good point. I an not nearly as far into my essentialism journey and I often have that problem.
I think that family often thinks I’m odd because I don’t value the same things instead I try to focus on one relationship at a time. I explain that I don’t want to clutter my time and energy with what does not bring me joy then I ask the question of why do they? I hear a lot of excuses but it is always that hamster wheel

Essencialism is also finding the best way to send the message! No word is being wasted!! This is deep and meaningful!! Thanks, Matt and Greg!!!
3:11 "We are in a stage of opinion overload" ...True
That struck me too! So on point
"Every technology is a good slave and a poor master."

Needed to hear this especially during a time where everyone is racing to do more more more.
For sure.
"Patience is not passive, on the contrary, it is a concentrated strength." -- Bruce Lee
Really great stuff, thank you for doing what you do.
I have the opposite problem, instead of being busy, i am not busy enough but its hard to find motivation
well i think that's also because you have a lot on your mind that it almost becomes a paradox of decisions. for example I may wake up for the day and think of all the possible things I can do but i don't realize that my mind has become a paradox of decisions and I've wasted half of my day already.
Very much recommend reading Essentialism.

“How to not have those [non-essential] projects in the first place.”
My work life in a nutshell! Write summary reports about all the individual reports....”
Meanwhile, my actual JOB has nothing to do with interviews, meetings, and reports; I’m supposed to be doing forensics.
I need a new job.
Most jobs are like yours. I am a teacher and believe it or not we have to write so many papers, daily plans...registers, you have to write evth on paper and into the schools online page. Then you have to prepare to deal with the student , the lesson and evth else....
Try to experience new things you will find your way, all the best for future ❤
Super stuff though!
Matt, been watching your podcasts for over an year - killer stuff, it's genuinely helped improve me.
Dunno if you're reading this, but thanks anyways :)

I get to read his book at least twice a year just to stay on track. 😂 Seriously, it’s been one of the most life-changing books I’ve ever read.

SteveAkaGoatpile So true! Thank you for stating it so well.
So simple but yet so awesome
This video echoes exactly what I'm currently going through: changing the mindset to strip down to the essentials, pinpoint what's meaningful and important, and maintain a level of productive consistency.
This type of content is what changes people's lives. Keep up the phenomenal work!
This is exactly what I needed to watch today. Been feeling this way for some time now
I love your channel.
SAME!!!
I just want to say that you make the highest quality videos!!! The way you incorporate music, narrative into your content.
He is SPOT ON here. Everyone needs to listen to this.
I couldn’t sleep. I remembered this great video and here I am. Again. Love it.

“Real Patience is Purposeful Waiting, Active Waiting”
Exactly patience is must ❤
This is so good description I am Busy = I am busy with comparison.
What I took home from this video: Essentialism builds upon the Pareto Principle: Prioritizing the vital few over the trivial many.
Woah Matt, you scared me with a double upload. I thought it was Tuesday again and I have finals coming 😂😂🔥
My thoughts:
1. It is this peer-comparison driven busyness that's robbing us
2. With success comes more opportunities and if you are not intentional and self honest like a minimalist you'll fall into the trap of "undisciplined pursuit of more" while "disciplined pursuit of less" is what will bring you more success (and in that point success won't even matter to you, living life wil.)
I read Essentialism years ago. I guess it's time to read it again!
What a coincidence that I just read Greg’s book last month and then Matt does an interview with him. At work, I’m starting to look at what’s essential and organize from there.
"Undisciplined success is a recipe for failure..." Truth.
Even the way he speaks is essentialist, not too many words but every word counts 👌
Couldn't appreciate your videos more, Matt.
The habit-tracker is set right beside me.
Two heavy packages full of unnecessary stuff are right behind me, wating for getting lost.
And yeah, I also learn English by these great podcasts :D
"If you don't prioritize your life, someone else will."
I didn't even realize that that's how I've been living my life. That's probably how most people live their lives; on someone else's time. It's time to change that.
you're awesome for making this super long video,
I've been exploring essentialism since you introduced me to it.
It's life changing, thank you so much
Great video, great content, thanks a lot!
I think it's very interesting how he says "If non-essentialism is working for someone, keep doing it!".
That's a great example of how self help should be. I've been working myself into a depression for a long time
and have discovered essentialism and minimalism to live my life better, but that doesn't have to mean it works
for everyone. Not everyone may have a problem building meaningful relationships and living a happy life that way.
And that's what makes it truly great. He's not pushing his agenda in your life; he's just giving your mind a shove in
the right direction.
simple takes more than we thought it would be. but Matt always show it right.
And it's not that bad.
We can choose what we want to do and how. We make our own rules.
I’ve known Greg for over 20 years. He’s an amazing thinker and teacher. Glad the two of you have crossed paths.
great video! this made me learn a lot about myself & i think i'm getting the book.
personal notes from the video:
- let conscience be the guide. success is a poor teacher. be discerning.
- we're busy bc other people are. hyperconnectivity.
- get enough sleep so you can discern properly
- if you don't prioritize your life, someone else will.
- accept that we are saying no all the time & everybody is. we say no in a compulsive way. say no within yourself.
- discipline pursuit of less but better
- buffering systems
- next level contributions
- 3x
- there are things that are far more important but less urgent to you. be cautious in pushing those away
- aligned: right thing, right time, right reasons, buffer & execute --> interest: if i pursue this, will i still have a buffer?
- buffer as key to consistency
- patience is active waiting: upper and lower bound of behavior -> bc goal is to do this consistently
- impatience drives consistency with the right mindset: "knowing what we know, how can we create buffers, upper and lower bounds?"
- know yourself & what you arent -> success -> make decisions from there based on conscience and not your success
- non-essentialism: it's over before it begins
- exchange value
- you can't say everything to everyone: what is your carefully curated message you're trying to share? don't get consumed by the noise. what are you trying to say + impt voice of clarity
- more effort ≠ more results
- justification for focus: if you believe that some things are more necessary than others, your behaviors will change with it too > not everything has equal value: it's about finding those things with proper value
- difficult to overstate the unimportance of everything
- trivial many vs vital few: figure those out & build systems to protect them
Bro, this video is fucking amazing.
Hey, Matt. I'm glad you're okay and I enjoy your videos no less than when I started. Keep up the good work!
The best part about ur videos on CZcams is that, you provide quality stuff even here and don’t reserve important information merely for ur patreon account. U truly value providing quality to everyone. 👍🏼💫

i need to watch this video 3 times every week for life advice to balance my work life and my personal life.
Something practicable I took from this, is multiplying EVERYTHING by 3.14592: how much time something might take to accomplish, how much money it will cost, what to charge for services rendered, how much effort and time you need to put into family and friends to keep them happy... It's worked really wonderfully for me.
Hmmmm. I was taught double the number and use the next unit of measure. Example: 1 day means 2 weeks. 5 minutes means 10 hours lol
Thank you for publishing this on CZcams!

Thank you for the good advice , I really appreciate it.
This video follows the current concepts found in astrology:
From 2018 - 2020, Saturn opposes the Sun.
In a world of competition and one upmanship, a CZcamsr like u is really needed.
